Another excellent Cracked photoplasty taking the names of movies very literally and photoshopping their covers or key scenes. Thinking of names like: There Will Be Blood, Road House, or even the very hilarious Rain Man as pictured above can definitely produce some very witty results. And don’t get me started on how worse things get when you start getting sexual puns involved. Die Hard, That Thing You Do. Oh boy. Slightly NSFW, so keep your heads above water ladies and gents.

The most exciting episode this season I would say. Plenty of crime, one-liners, and hair raising moments. And then a fantastic finale to wrap up the most jaw dropping episode. I say time and time again that this is one of the best original dramas on television and if you’re not watching, you’re seriously missing out. I can’t keep not talking about it, so enough with the spoiler free talk, read below for my review and take on last night’s episode: Dead Freight. As always MIGHTY spoilers ahead.

I’m really starting to like these Maintenance updates primarily because I don’t get to write much creative writing anymore because between school and writing about Youtube videos I found, there isn’t much room for creative flair. But it turns out I can dish out some personality through these updates. So instead of the usual straightforward talk as seen in the eighty word descriptions that usually circulate this site, there’s a little bit of sarcasm and wit. I’m sure as I keep doing these, they’ll get more and more outrageous. But enough about that, let’s get to the exciting news.
Maintenance Update on a Sunday? Where’s my Weekly Preview?
I’ve decided to roll a Maintenance update every week by combining it with the Weekly Preview. So on Sundays, you’ll have an update with everything we’re doing here at Banana Scoop as well as a a look at what we’re cooking up this week. Granted, the combination of the two means the both will lose some content than they usually would have alone [shorter updates and smaller previews], but combined, I think we’re killing two birds with one stone. And besides, that just means I can write Tuesday articles again!

If there’s anything Weekend Funnies have taught me, is that not everyone has the same sense of humor. But the internet is a generally a collection of everyone and the sheer compilation of the wit and humor that each individual contributes essentially represents the most broadest and generalist appeals to mankind. So when I choose the 24 images for each Weekend Funny, I know the reason I think it’s funny will be at least funny to some percentage of the world. And even if the it’s the smallest 1%, 1% of 7 billion is still 700 million. So I apologize if you’re offended, disgusted, or upset. Truth be told, if you can’t handle these 24 images, you likely shouldn’t be on the internet anyways. So stop worrying about racism, sexism, and other means of being upset. Just keep scrolling, and remember: no one’s looking, it’s okay to smile at something someone would frown upon.

Super awesome artist Kristele has a very distinct art style. We’ve featured her banner including all these Firefly characters before, but now I wanna give her credit to these awesome individual pieces. These awesome character profiles of each character could totally serve as a template for a Firefly animated series. I would watch that. I would watch anything Firefly related. All this recent Firefly posting makes me mis the show again…Sigh…time to go watch Firefly and Serenity for like the 50th time….
See the rest of the character profiles and then visit her deviantart profile I linked above.

Stumbled upon this while browsing the internet and couldn’t help myself. This animation is definitely worth checking out, although I seem to be on an animation streak this past few weeks. Hopefully you guys enjoy the rather odd and somewhat heartwarming story of a girl and her…demon. I think we all have that one person we can relate to that just gets under our skin like the protagonist in this short, but hopefully not everyone resorts to demonic rituals and rainbows. Let me know what you guys think!

I mentioned earlier this week that I would try to do a review on the entire trilogy, but I found it impossible to have all three read by this Friday. As I write this article now on Tuesday, I know in balance with work and other things, I simply won’t have time to read and write about all three. So I’ve decided since then to split all three of them up into separate reviews and sprinkle them in throughout August.
The first book in Suzanne Collins’s trilogy is The Hunger Games. After coming so hot after A Song of Ice and Fire, I looked at the relatively small book and chuckled at it’s short length and large margins. A quick read. But it wasn’t because of the small number of pages or the size in between each line that made it quick to my surprise as I finished the book in about 5 or so hours. The fast paced story and fascinating description of a dystopia had me turning the pages so quickly, that I would all of a sudden be a dozens of pages past of where I first started. My breakdown of the story, the characters, and the style below. Book spoilers below!

This is a really cool link to Tecca who have compiled 10 awesome recut trailers to movies. We’re not just talking about flipping a few words around or even a simple mash up here or there, these re-cuts completely change the genre. Take for example, the Incredibles trailer I posted above, this trailer highlights the death of Dash and the effect it has had on the family. The trailer is absolutely chilling and plays a horror movie so well that I would totally watch that movie. “Do you know where he is?”
Seriously, check out that trailer and the rest of them at Tecca. Don’t believe me? The first one is turning the Shining into a family film. Crazy right?

A small and short video for ya’ll demonstrating how awesome Nathan Fillion. Claimed geek god by many for his portrayal of the unforgettable Malcolm Reynolds in one season of Firefly and the awesome movie Serenity, Nathan Fillion is known for generating plenty of antics as seen in the video above. During a dramatic scene, Fillion decides to carry dramatic in one camera pan across the entire crew. Appearing several times with a dead pan expression. Some actors can’t handle it, but the ending is especially nice. If you’re a fan of Firefly or Serenity, do yourself a favor and watch the clip. If you’re not, do yourself a favor and watch both the series and movie and become a part of a Cult group that will be forever angry at the early death of a beloved show.

From artist Sam Spratt, we have one of the greatest images ever created in the history of man kind. Ron Swanson is quite possibly the the embodiment of the All-American Hero. He is an avid fan of meat, he has a strict code in dress, hair style, and personal effects, he can do practically anything given some wood and a hammer, and can catch fish with his bare hands. He’s likely also fought a bear and won. And that damn mustache. It’s so glorious that it makes me want to shed my own Filipino heritage for some nice full facial hair.
Anywho, back to the artist who has created the most badass rendition of Ron Swanson. Complete with both Tammy tattoos, a ridiculous but likely very true mustache chest hair, a ton of meat in the background, a Mulligan’s apron, and of course the Ron Swanson Pyramid of Greatness. I would kill for a conversation with Nick Offerman.

Alright folks, this week’s major article concerns eSports and the future of gaming as a profession. In this nifty CNN article below, we talk about pro gaming with a focus in Starcraft 2. The article (and its predecessors) follow the story of both MKP and MVP from what I remember in the earlier articles, and mostly discuss addiction and how eSports shouldn’t be considered sports. From the growing eSports scene and my own personal viewpoints, I’ve decided that this is a topic worth discussing in general with the fan base here on Banana Scoop, or at least the video game fan base here on Banana Scoop. Anyway, hopefully you’ll check out my little blurb about this below and consider what I have to say. Continue Reading »

Hitfix came up with this awesome list about 20 movies we’ve been waiting on. Whether they be sequels of old movies or ones that the director has been always interested in making, it’s all here. Some of them are even planned and in production as you read this! I’m already excited for the Arrested Development movie! Apparently the first episode title of Arrested Development has been leaked. It’s nothing spectacular being titled: Arrested Development: Michael, but it proves it’s in production! I can’t get excited enough for such a thing. Check out this movie and the rest of the stuff below by clicking the link.

How do you make a Christopher Nolan movie trailer better? By mashing it up with another Christopher Nolan trailer. We’ve already shown you how awesome Nolan trailers can be, but this one is different because it mashes up another one of his movies, The Prestige in it. I like how the editor made each one of Nolan’s movies a part of the three aspects of a magic trick: the pledge, turn, and prestige. Maybe I’m not looking deep enough because I don’t believe that there is any other significant other than 1, 2, and 3, but I know there are some rather radical internet theories out there. By the way, if you haven’t already seen the Prestige, do yourself a favor and watch it! It’s absolutely amazing and totally on par with his other movies. All I need to see now is an Insomnia/Memento mashup and I just might be able to die a happy man.

Not sure how to feel about this, folks. News has it that Legendary Pictures has taken the rights to make a Mass Effect movie. While I haven’t seen anything concrete, we all know the curse about video games being turned into movies. I’m hoping they won’t just butcher everything I know and love (Tali, stay safe!). While normally I’d be somewhat more enthusiastic about the concept, I just feel that the need to create a movie based on a game that more or less plays out like a movie is overkill. We get the cinema experience in every rendered cutscene. I guess I could wait before deeming it a total flop though. We’ll have to see how it goes.

Sadly, this is the last Universidaze comic I’ll publish in a long time. As school looms closer and closer, I know I need to give up some of the responsibilities I’ve given myself when it comes to this blog. And after evaluating some of the cost/profit aspects of this blog, Universidaze simply takes too much time for it to be worth it. If I were a free lance artist who could dedicate his one post a week to Universidaze, it would be doable. But balancing the 2-4 hour drawing process with 24 other articles a week is simply going to make this blog bleed.
The adventures of Chad and Miles seem to be over for now. It’s such a shame, considering I’ve grown very fond of the two of them and I feel as though I could’ve done so much more. The Universidaze tab will remain here for all those who wish to go back and read some of the older comics. I plan on playing around with the hyperlinks and making the page much nicer as a final send off. But who knows, maybe they’ll survive the crash. Maybe they’ll make a comeback. We can only wish and dream.

It’s hard not loving Pixar movies. You’d have to be soulless to not absolutely fall in love with the creative and intriguing characters Pixar comes up with. Moviefone has done the ambitious ranking of nearly all the Pixar characters throughout the years. With nearly 118 contestants, it was a neat gallery going through and remembering all the crazy characters and the awesome voices that portrayed them. I’ve included the link starting from number 1, because in all honesty, who wants to scroll through 118 pictures. Guess who got the number one spot before you hit the link!

A Dance with Dragons was published in 2011. That means it’ll be at least 3 years later in2014 before we see Winds of Winter. Or so he claims. It’s not like he’s getting any younger either…or thinner. I usually don’t judge people for their lifestyle choices or general appearances, but when this series is at stake, it’s another thing entirely. We’ve featured a fan made music video, one about Baratheons sung to the tune of Black and Yellow, but this one isn’t so much a parody, but a fully original song [I’m horribly at music, it could be a parody of something]. The message is simple: George R.R. Martin needs to write quicker for the sake of his fans. The video itself is humorous, and decently choreographed at some parts with some good ‘ol slapstick.

As soon as I finished A Dance with Dragons, I didn’t fear entering the once Bane of My Existence, A Wiki of Ice and Fire. Being a sinkhole of summaries and spoilers, I couldn’t stand the idea of venturing into such dangerous territory. So as I was clicking through the various pages, I stumbled upon a theories page which came up with interesting articles that included evidence for and against popular theories in the Song of Ice and Fire community. Some of them were more obvious than others, but a couple certainly took me by surprise and I find myself having hard time NOT believing these are actually true based on the evidence. MAJOR BOOK SPOILERS below, so enter at own risk.
