Meta drawing. In 2013, when I got a new graphics tablet, I drew a pool party containing character requests from some Facebook friends. In 2014, I redrew that pool party to showcase my skill progress. Here I am 3 years later redrawing the pool party again benchmarking my progress. It has been an incredible journey and I can’t wait to keep going.

What’s also fun is how some of these characters have grown in that time period. Ellie is older and Dany’s dragons have gotten considerably larger.

Messed around with drawing some Asher Forrester.  I think I gave up.  I wasn’t really happy with how it was coming out, but I still loved Asher Forrester.

bigby and snow

I’m 4/5 episodes done with The Wolf Among Us.  I can’t help bringing myself to finishing the 5th episode knowing my time with Bigby will be over soon.  So I stalled even longer with drawing some fan art.  Bigby and Snow’s relationship is something that’s a lot of fun.  The way Bigby dotes on her, but how he is ashamed of his rage and true form is tragic.  I play my Bigby as a very angry man who isn’t hesitant to use violence on anyone standing in his way.  But he also has a heart of gold, willing to help individuals who really need it.  I’ve had a fantastic time with The Wolf Among Us.  I really like being bad, something I couldn’t really bring myself to doing in The Walking Dead with Lee and Clementine.

Here’s some dialogue I kinda ran with it.

“Bigby, we should get this body to the wishing well, before the Mundies find us.”

“Just a little longer Snow…let me…just a little longer”

“…”

“Am I a monster, Snow?”

“…”

“Yeah…that’s what I figured.”

The next piece of video game fan art will be my Herald of Andraste from Dragon Age Inquisition.  Look forward to it!

project pool party 2 final

Over a year ago, I drew a piece on my new Cintiq drawing tablet that involved 9 characters and a pool party.

It was my first piece on my new drawing tablet. As proud of it as I am, I’m happy to know that I’ve grown a lot over the year in terms of skill & patience.

So today I present to you a redrawing of that first piece containing the same nine characters in the same environment, a pool party! It was a lot of fun, can’t wait to get started on the next couple of projects I have lined up.

From the left: Ellie, Rose Red, Rhaegal the Dragon, Omar Little, Cloud, Steve, Viserion the Dragon, Drogon the Dragon, and Daenerys Targaryen.

I’ve included the original picture below.  I’ve come a looooong way.

POOL PARTY final

On another note, I have more projects on the way, Black Carnival, Saga fan-art, some Korra, I have a lot of ideas and hopefully the time to do them!

Spring television is in full force and a plethora of shows have premiered while others have continued.  If I had to choose between hype for Fall 2013 television and Spring 2014 television, just writing about this line up makes me believe that Spring 2014 television just might trump whatever Fall 2013 aired [and that might include Breaking Bad…].  I say this because a lot of two-season (Fall to Spring) shows begin doing their crazy stunts and plot twists during sweeps week as  their seasons wrap up.  This means shit hits the fan for multiple shows, sometimes all at once, creating some of the memorable television shows of the year.  This week’s post will reflect on what’s been aired so far as well as a small preview of what’s to come in the following weeks.

Parks and Recreation - Season 5

It’s no secret that my love for television extends beyond many of my other loves.  These include video games, movies, drawing, books, and comic books.  Doing these recaps are my favorite because it allows you to share with everyone about your favorite shows and gives others a chance to chime in their opinions on what I’m missing out on!  Trust me, these kind of things actually happen because it’s because of my readers that I got into Modern Family!

Anywho, Winter/Spring television is very much started and some shows only have a week or two left before their finales, but I figured now would be a good time to recap on what’s happened and why you should pick up on the shows I’m watching!  11 Shows this season, can you keep up?

If we consider just the bastard children that are mentioned in the books, [Ned Stark] didn’t have enough evidence to really make this determination. We know of four bastard children, all with dark hair. If Robert is homozygous BB, then this is by far the most likely outcome. However, if Robert is heterozygous Bb, he would still have dark hair, and it would still be fairly likely for four bastard children to have dark hair (think about flipping a coin and getting four heads in a row). When you add in the fact that some of his mistresses and whores likely had dark coloration as well, it becomes even more likely that all four illegitimate children have dark hair. So as far as Ned knows, Robert could well be Bb. And if he is, then the fact that he had three blonde children with the almost certainly bb Cersei Lannister is again reasonably likely. This is why Tyrion remarks that Joffrey’s – and hence Cersei’s – claim would be foolproof if she had had even one child with Robert: someone with dark hair married to someone with light hair having some children with light hair and some children with dark hair is utterly normal.

Joffrey Could Be Robert Baratheon’s Actual Child?

Need to fill your for gore and death?  Love Game of Thrones?  Then this video is for you!  These two videos compile all the deaths from the first season of Game of the Thrones.  It gets pretty brutal and shows with high body counts are slightly disturbing, especially because it seems that it can be directly proportional to how popular the show is….What does that say about society?  What does it say about society that these videos have 200 thousands hits combined with an overall positive liking bar…

If that’s distrubing think about a video that compiles all the nudity of Game of Throne and see how many hits it gets…Well I’m actually probably sure that it already exists and it probably has more hits than this site has in total…[which is as of recently a wee bit short of 100,000].

This is a cool compilation of pictures.  Dorkly created a neat gallery where they took famous video game families/clans and made them into Game of Thrones families with accompanying icons and words.  They’re based on neat trivia and if you have the skill/knowledge of video game universes to ‘get’ them all, then you should give yourself a good pat on the back.  I only put the ones I know below, so check out the rest of them over at Dorkly, tell me where the other ones come from!

More than once [like a bajillion times], I’ve been caught in a web of videos that all include cats doing silly things.  Here we have a cat doing both a silly and awesome thing.  A user essentially made a cat’s singular meow to the tune of HBO’s Game of Thrones opening theme.  How is this even possible?  How does one conceive this idea and proceed to get millions upon millions of views.

And of course, there’s also a dog doing the same damn thing, which I included below.  This is why the internet was invented.

I went to a comedy club last night and I’m just extremely shocked how ordinary people can completely imitate famous celebrities, despite their complete opposite appearance.  So when I see this Youtube video of this fella in his room, speaking lines from Game of Thrones in perfect accents, it’s absolutely hilarious.  At first he’s fairly serious, speaking lines verbatim, but as soon as he reaches Jorah Mormont, he finds himself saying the most absurd things that concern bunions.  And adding a harsh Khaelesi at the end of every line is the icing on the cake!

There’s a lot of sex and nudity in A Song of Ice and Fire.  And that trend followed and might have even been augmented in the HBO adaptation,  Game of Thrones.  All the nudity certainly gathered attention and when  George R.R. Martin, author and executive producer of the books and television show respectively was approached about it, he had a rather cool way of replying to it.

I can describe an axe entering a human skull in great explicit detail and no one will blink twice at it. I provide a similar description, just as detailed, of a penis entering a vagina, and I get letters about it and people swearing off. To my mind this is kind of frustrating, it’s madness. Ultimately, in the history of [the] world, penises entering vaginas have given a lot of people a lot of pleasure. Axes entering skulls, well, not so much.

I’ve been a subscriber to Entertainment Weekly since 2009 I believe.  I actually do read it [most of the time] from cover to end.  It’s absolutely one of my favorite magazines for several reasons.  1) It’s not so much a gossip magazine that focuses on the most uninteresting people that so many people find interesting.  2) They cover two industries I love dearly: movies and television.  3) They get the most absurdly early looks at upcoming projects such as pictures or interviews. And finally 4) In the past they’ve introduced me to some of the most beloved shows I’ve come to know.

Sure not all their stories are the best [I can’t tell you how many times K-Stew and R-Pats have been on the damn cover and I groaned], but I’ve compiled a list of 5 pieces of pop culture [coincidentally all TV shows] that, while always hearing they were great, I didn’t actually start paying attention to until I read an article on Entertainment Weekly.  And surprisingly enough, they weren’t all cover stories.  Read on below for the full Scoop.

It might’ve been a couple of months since Game of Thrones ended.  What a drag those months have been.  That doesn’t mean we’ll stop posting about it though.  This article ranks the hottest women from Game of Thrones Season 1 and 2.  It’s fun to speculate who is number one, but it really shouldn’t surprise you.  Roxanne McKee, pictured above, plays Doreah who got the number 2 slot.  I’m not complaining about that.  Check out the entire ranking system below at Ranker.

Now this is a cool video, combine two opposite universes: Game of Thrones and Star Wars.  Combine the sword fights with lightsabers.  Here we have the infamous fight between Jaime Lannister and Ned Stark.  Add the awesome soundtrack from Star Wars and place the lightsaber over the swords and you have a Jedi fight.  It’s a pity they don’t do flips and stuff, but hey that’s no big deal.  Amazing what video production programs can do these days.

This is a perfect time to post this kind of thing considering the major election of 2012 is coming up in a couple of months.  What we have here is a series of political attack ads, as seen on the ones on television with corny pictures, enunciated sentences and harsh personal statements that attack other potential candidates.  We have all the major players here, Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, and Daenerys Targaryen.  I loved the ploys used like the Birth Certificate and other things.  Check out the other two below.

A Dance with Dragons was published in 2011.  That means it’ll be at least 3 years later in2014 before we see Winds of Winter.  Or so he claims.  It’s not like he’s getting any younger either…or thinner.  I usually don’t judge people for their lifestyle choices or general appearances, but when this series is at stake, it’s another thing entirely.  We’ve featured a fan made music video, one about Baratheons sung to the tune of Black and Yellow, but this one isn’t so much a parody, but a fully original song [I’m horribly at music, it could be a parody of something].  The message is simple: George R.R. Martin needs to write quicker for the sake of his fans.  The video itself is humorous, and decently choreographed at some parts with some good ‘ol slapstick.

As soon as I finished A Dance with Dragons, I didn’t fear entering the once Bane of My Existence, A Wiki of Ice and Fire.  Being a sinkhole of summaries and spoilers, I couldn’t stand the idea of venturing into such dangerous territory.  So as I was clicking through the various pages, I stumbled upon a theories page which came up with interesting articles that included evidence for and against popular theories in the Song of Ice and Fire community.  Some of them were more obvious than others, but a couple certainly took me by surprise and I find myself having hard time NOT believing these are actually true based on the evidence.  MAJOR BOOK SPOILERS below, so enter at own risk.

Seven save us all, I’ve finished A Dance with Dragons.  In the most recent installment of George R.R. Martin’s series, A Song of Ice and Fire, A Dance with Dragons intimidates us all with it’s 900+ pages and tiny text.  But if you’ve made it as far as the fifth book, you know as well as I do, a larger book means more things happening.  My first impression was that this book was just as large as my favorite book of the series, A Storm of Swords, so that means that this edition could possibly live up to the exciting and jaw dropping nature of it’s predecessor.  Following up the relatively short [in terms of ASoIaF] Feast of Crows, A Dance with Dragons brings us back to some more central characters [and more exciting in my humble opinion] as a follow up from the third book.

Even Martin said himself in a forward to the book that A Dance with Dragons first takes us back to the aftermath of A Storm of Swords to follow up some characters left out of Feast for Crows.  And at about ¾ of the way in, we would come back to characters that were left in a cliffhanger from Feast for Crows and the story would be in a unison real time.  So below is my review of the book as a whole.  It was difficult to organize in my head given the complexity of the nature, so hang on for a bumping ride.  Enough of the spoiler-free talk.  Dare to click ‘more’ for a full blown, spoiler filled, gush fest review of the most recent Song of Ice and Fire book.

Overview

In George R.R. Martin’s words, “This one was a bitch”.  Writing a review for this complex book is not easy.  So many things to consider and so many things to talk about.  I’ve essentially broken up this section into parts describing the main characters based on their point of views.  Some titles I took directly from Martin himself while others, I witfully fashioned myself.  In each section, you’ll find a brief summary of what happened to each character as well as my thoughts on what happened.  Feel more than free to discuss with me on some or all points!  I look forward to our geek-out.

I apologize for this article is likely full of spelling errors and the like.  4500 words is easy to lose track.

A catchy, lovable parody of Maroon 5’s Pay Phone.  The singer however does play the role of Adam Levine seeing as he mentions both The Voice and Maroon 5.  The idea is he’s essentially addicted to Game of Thrones and sings about it in the tune of Pay Phone.  He mentions plot points and explains some of the reasons why the series is so good.  Like everyone else, he’s also confused who he should root for as well as he feels pity for some of the show’s victims.  It’s an overall cute and quirky video that you should definitely check out for a neat foot tapper.
