I’m really starting to like these Maintenance updates primarily because I don’t get to write much creative writing anymore because between school and writing about Youtube videos I found, there isn’t much room for creative flair. But it turns out I can dish out some personality through these updates. So instead of the usual straightforward talk as seen in the eighty word descriptions that usually circulate this site, there’s a little bit of sarcasm and wit. I’m sure as I keep doing these, they’ll get more and more outrageous. But enough about that, let’s get to the exciting news.
Maintenance Update on a Sunday? Where’s my Weekly Preview?
I’ve decided to roll a Maintenance update every week by combining it with the Weekly Preview. So on Sundays, you’ll have an update with everything we’re doing here at Banana Scoop as well as a a look at what we’re cooking up this week. Granted, the combination of the two means the both will lose some content than they usually would have alone [shorter updates and smaller previews], but combined, I think we’re killing two birds with one stone. And besides, that just means I can write Tuesday articles again!

The Newest Contributor: Ben
Banana Scoop has expanded its ‘staff’ once more. Frequent commenter Ben has shown his interest in Banana Scoop for a long time now. I know him personally and he alone is responsible for me getting into some of my favorite pieces of pop culture: Dexter and Song of Ice and Fire series for example. And I am pop culturally in his debt. He has graciously accepted to help once a week in writing an editorial on something he’s interested in. Be sure to welcome him with open arms on his opening debut next week.
Profile Picture Make Overs
With Ben’s recent arrival and my familiarization of Illustrator growing stronger every day, it is my intention to revamp our trademark poster characters: Bruce, SoGoCJE, and maybe even Miles [sniff] to a more finesse touch. Ben’s recent portrait exemplifies the quality increase I’m aiming for and I think it will all around boost morale. I’m even thinking of bringing back the Banana Movie Buff for another shot at being a mascot for this site. That or an ice cream cone mascot of some sort….as a play off to Scoop…like ice cream scoop….*cricket chirp*. Bah, forget you.
Feature Cancelations
As you saw last week, Universidaze was cancelled do to time constraint it would have on me during the school year. I had to do a pro and con list of eliminating one feature of this website and determined that Universidaze just simply wasn’t popular enough for me to dedicate 3-4 hours a week drawing and finalizing it. Watching Miles and Chad go is difficult, especially for me, when I had so much planned for them. Who knows, they may or may not come back with a special appearance, or I might even dedicate a Sunday Sketch or 2 for them, but other than that, Wednesday main article posts will follow the regular day and our newest contributor Ben will likely take over this spot.
In addition to Universidaze cancellation, we’ll be also canceling Weekend Reblogs. It was a tough call, but they don’t yield as much as I’d hope. It’s a feature I feel as though I’ll regret removing. I always liked the idea of the blogging community coming together, but I just can’t promise is it every week.
Banana Scoop the Mobile App
Ben has expressed interest in developing mobile apps. He has suggested that it would be fun to try to experiment with making a Banana Scoop mobile app. I understand that these days you can just bookmark a Safari page to the homescreen, but we would try to include some seriously fun stuff in the app. Polls, webcomics, random pages, etc. etc., it could potentially be very neat. A project that’s a long time from now, but still a neat project none the less.
School is Still Looming
School starts next week, so I’m like a mad dog in trying to write as many articles before the season hits like a squirrel gathers nuts for winter. As soon as the storm hits, I’ll be slowed and ineffective and will definitely be resorting to reserves in order to keep myself off week breaks.
I loathe the incoming first week when I realize I have 3 tests, a project, a paper, and an entire week of articles I need to write. One of those things will have to bite the bullet. More than often, it’s the test or paper, but I figured this time around, I need to get my shit straight and sacrifice Banana Scoop if need be. This will likely happen only a couple times of during now and Christmas Break, because all my professors just LOVE having their tests on the same week.
