This is from Community loving artist Tinderbox210, who has a distinct love for Community. So much that she makes multiple fake movie posters for in-show jokes like Inspector Spacetime and the Dreamatorium. The posters are real reminiscent of those old timey posters for movies like Starwars and Tron, but with contemporary faces makes it all the better. I’m not entirely sure where she got all the images for some of them, although I recognize Joel McHale’s look from Spy Kids 4. But seriously Gillian, when on earth did you get that outfit? Look forward to Community’s return this October. Look below for the Dreamtorium movie poster and Scary Movie poster and then be sure to visit Tinderbox210 for more Community based art!
Prepare yourselves to be amazed! The google car is here on a test drive to show just how far into the future they intend to take us. With a really interesting set of clips from throughout the day, we see just how awesome Google is at innovation and re-defining the limits of technology. The self-driving car takes us through fast food joints and makes a stop at a laundromat, showcasing both its ability to pay attention to traffic and park. Never more will one have to worry about parallel parking! Actually, I’m not quite sure how this vehicle would handle some of the finer aspects of driving, but I’m definitely excited to see what the finished product will end up like if this ever reaches the production stage!
Judd Apatow is an American film producer, director, writer, and screenwriter. His American film/television production company Apatow Productions pumps out quality comedy with a vengeance. If you aren’t familiar with the name you are definitely familiar with the work. Mr. Apatow has been breathing life into the best comedies of the past decade. He is the wizard of odd, the maestro behind the curtain. I believe Apatow has been the driving factor in revitalizing the comedy genre. Before Judd, R-rated comedies were not big business. The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up changed all of that. They changed people’s idea of what a comedy could accomplish. The films Apatow creates are not defined by silly slapstick or outrageous situations. These comedic elements definitely have a role in comedy but Apatow’s works gave us a new, more touching breed. The reason they have been so successful to me is that the characters feel so real. The characters feel like the friends you always wish you had. The dryness and raunchy nature of Apatow’s comedies are what gives them their human tone. Life is messy and pathetic as hell. Judd’s films show us that the unappealing facets of life are what provide the color. Friendship is also a common theme. Every time I see another one of his works I can’t help but smile at all the silly moments that life is going to bring.
The following are the 5 films I believe best represent Apatow’s special brand of comedy: Continue Reading »
Aside from some jogging scenes in “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out,” the training montage never really made the transition from movies to video games. We asked you to show us what we’re missing out on, and why in some cases, that’s probably a good thing.
Okay, so this isn’t the real audition tape, but it’s pretty damn good. What we have here is Youtube user Damitsgood808 performing some hilarious comedic impressions, all to the tune of auditioning for the lead role in the movie Drive. What’s funny is that he uses major pop culture icons as the roles, and his impressions and costumes are dead on. I don’t know what came first, the SNL version [where they do Back to the Future] or this, but they’re both equally hilarious. Be sure to check it out as well as his Youtube channel to view more of his impressions for different movies.
Does he shave his beard just for these roles, or does he seriously have that many stock beards….
It’s been over 10 years since our nation suffered one of its biggest tragedies. Take some time out of your day to reflect on how blessed you really are and remember those not as lucky as you.
I will be the first to admit that Lord of the Rings anything makes my heart skip with joy. I love every panoramic scenery shot, every one of Merry and Pippin’s shenanigans, every time Gandalf goes into “serious wizard” mode, and every intimate moment between the Fellowship as they journey throughout Middle Earth. I’ve seen all 12 hours of glorious adventure more times than Sam can say “Mr. Frodo”. It is now my honor to answer some questions and reveal some fun facts about LOTR that I’ve learned along the way!
Public Service Announcements are still somehow the best we’ve got for teaching people how not to harm themselves, or at least for educating normal people how dumb people are harming themselves. We asked you to show us what they’d look like inside video games where the world is often actively trying to kill us
MASSIVE SEASON 5 Breaking Bad spoilers in these videos so, otherwise stay away! These two clips I have are cuts from major scenes of Breaking Bad season 5. These cuts include trademark Curb Your Enthusiasm humor and soundtrack. I don’t watch too much Curb Your Enthusiasm, but I’ve seen enough to understand its dark humor, which is relayed and augmented in these clips. My head is still reeling from the Breaking Bad season 5 midseason finale. So these little pop culture quips will have to keep me going until the next 10 months….
I’m not huge into politics. And now that it’s a major election year, being into politics is a really big deal. I hate that I have to choose from such crazy partisans and that who I do have an opinion for, there are people who exist solely to blast my opinion out of the water with a bombardment of condescending facts that they likely heard once when they flipped through the Fox channel. Regardless, whenever politics are mashed up with pop culture, I tend to have a stronger love for such things. Today I compiled a neat gallery of .gifs that compare 2012 Republican Nominee Mitt Romney and Channel 4 Newscaster Brick Tamland. Political hilarity ensues.
Minecraft is trending hard in my life, so I’m tending to write a lot about it recently. One of the toughest things about Minecraft is the lack of a rulebook. If you’re not familiar with the Minecraft wiki or the game itself, getting started can be one of the hardest things. The game doesn’t really tell you how to start or even what you’re supposed to do when you arrive on your randomly generated world. And if you haven’t seen any videos or don’t have an experienced buddy playing with you, learning some of the pro tips can be difficult. I learned about half of these for the first time only about a week ago and I’ve been playing for 2-3 months! So this is for all who could use some tips to make the best of your Minecraft experiences!
1. Pressing Shift While Clicking Allows You to Move Directly from Inventory to Chest or Chest to Inventory
If you need to move mass stacks of objects from one place to another, holding shift while you click is a good way to do that! Before that, you’d have to click things in individual objects. This principle can be applied to removing things from ovens, chests, inventories, etc. Definitely a must if you need to speed move.
Omar Gallaga at CNN has stumbled upon an fascinating parallel. The rise and fall and rise again of tech giant Apple is stunningly similar to the adventures of Walter White in Breaking Bad. The similarities between Steve Jobs and Walter White are especially spine tingling.
Here are two excerpts from Mr. Gallaga’s article:
“What makes Apple so successful? Like Walter White, it has mixed the proper elements at just the right amounts to create highly pure, addictive products. The products have been made within secretive working conditions. The skill employed to design and manufacture them tends to make what competitors put out seem like cheaper, cloudier, less effective imitations.”
Banana Scoop is still scheduled to take a break in the week from September 16th to September 22nd to give us writers a break from school and other things. In the meantime, our writers will be doing serious business to make Banana Scoop even better…or we’ll likely be playing Borderlands 2. All four of us are into Borderlands, so it’s very likely that’s what we’ll be doing on our break. Speaking of our fourth author…
New Author’s First Post this Week!
Earlier, I posted Rachel as a new author as well as her new avatar. She’s posting her first article this week, so please visit and support her! I’m not going to give the topic of her first article away, but it’s totally in league with what this site usually posts, so I guarantee you’ll enjoy it. Rachel will be posting several times a month with no regimented scheudle unlike the other authors. She’s going to try out what it’s like to publish for us and hopefully we’ll see her more frequently!
Drawing: Edward Scissorhands, Harley Quinn, Random Page Button
Watching: Mad Men, Party Down, Cabin in the Woods
New Buttons
If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve changed the topic buttons as well as Favorite Scoops buttons. The new topic buttons will reflect some of the things we’ll be reviewing and covering in the future: Borderlands 2, American Horror Story, Dexter, etc. As always Fig Art subcategory will bring you to my Deviant Art page.
Page Changes and About Us
We’ll be changing up the Pages on the very top soon. Universidaze and Weekly Calendar’s and maybe even Live Discussion Pages will be going down in favor of some more productive Pages like About Us. I’m working on finalizing that so people can find out about Banana Scoop and its writers.
Banana Scoop has a new contributor! Her name is Rachel and she’ll be posting several times a month. Not only does she have a lot of opinions on movies, books, video games, she’s also got something Banana Scoop hasn’t had yet: a female perspective on things. Read more about her joining in the Weekly Newsletter posted later today!
Rachel chose to have a coffee mug as her avatar. I initially went with a more mature looking coffee cup, but she recommended a softer side, so I added some more innocent features to her. I had a lot of fun playing with the spilt coffee above, despite if it’s a little bit superfluous Regardless, I hope she likes her new avatar!
I’m not much of a late night talk show guy, but out of the trope, I think I like Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien the most. The latter has a small series that caters to two of our categories here at Banana Scoop: television and video games. Conan isn’t much of a video game player, but he’ll often take up the sticks and play a game or two. It’s really funny how he applies his wit to point out basic plot holes in hilarious ways. You simply have to see it yourself. I’ve included his ‘review’ on Minecraft and below includes Skyrim and some others. Both Skyrim and Minecraft are absolutely hilarious, and I hope he does more in the future!
As the title states, we may be closer to the awesome holographic touch interface we’re familiar from the Iron Man movies. We’ve all seen the amazing holographic interface that Stark uses on a daily basis to do anything ranging from surfing the internet to creating complex (and brand new) elements to add to the table. While we may be far from light-based ocular constructs, we are getting ever so close to the pinnacle of touch screen technology. Now if we can only figure out a way to make awesome omni-tool based devices by solidifying light and adding circuits and other fancy things. A geek can dream! The best part about the leap is that it is indeed available for pre-order if not purchase now for around 70$. While that may seem a little expensive, it’s generally up to the consumer to figure out if they ‘need’ it or not. Let me know what you all think.
It’s been over a year since I pledged to watch The Wire and I’ve finally accomplished it. People have gone to great lengths to define the greatest television drama of all time, with The Wire more than often reaching the finals if not being the victor. That’s what truly inspired me to get in on this in the first place. I mean, regardless of content, personal taste, or opinion, if this many people are praising it or even talking about it as much as they are, I figured it would definitely be worth the shot.
So 5 seasons later, which equivocates to over 40 hours, [5 seasons with about 10 episodes each episode having 50 minutes] here I stand, finally having an opinion on what is regarded as one of the greatest shows on television. And shit, boy did it not disappoint. We’ll keep this discussion spoiler free as I’ll tread lightly on some of the high points of the series. Read on below to either learn about the Wire or simply relive some memories.
[On Zach Galifianakis on tumblr]…I felt compelled to compile the definitive collection in one convenient place. Some make for great reaction GIFs, others serve to revisit good times, and all are just good internet….Until we know for sure, please allow this collection of chubby, bearded splendidness to make your day.
I absolutely love these Pixar shorts. They’re usually released alongside a major Pixar film, and I love going through all of them every once in a while. They’re so beautifully made and have such quirky stories. I’ve compiled some of the more recent [and available] ones on Youtube. I know I’m mixing Luxo Jr., Tin Toy, and Geri’s Game, Night and Day, among others, but the ones I did compile below are still very cool and adorable to watch. Enjoy!
