I will be the first to admit that Lord of the Rings anything makes my heart skip with joy. I love every panoramic scenery shot, every one of Merry and Pippin’s shenanigans, every time Gandalf goes into “serious wizard” mode, and every intimate moment between the Fellowship as they journey throughout Middle Earth. I’ve seen all 12 hours of glorious adventure more times than Sam can say “Mr. Frodo”. It is now my honor to answer some questions and reveal some fun facts about LOTR that I’ve learned along the way!

(Warning – mild spoilers ahead)

This image isn’t even that cool.  Pysch!!!  This is really cool.  But totally geeky.  It just really tickled my fancy because I’ve been crushing a lot of Minecraft lately.  With Aragorn screaming some classic Lord of the Rings lines, Legolas sees the dreaded Creepers, but instead of telling him they’re headed to Isengard, he does on the truly sensical thing: builds a wall of cobblestone.  Brilliant Legolas, but I also think that bow would’ve worked just as well.  Here’s to hoping it’s enchanted.

Here’s something you didn’t know about me: I have a Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare book that has diagrams, photos, and concept art on the ‘weapons and warfare’ of the Lord of the Rings Universe.  In it, there are things like how certain blades were made, who held them in the past, as well as many other neat facts and trivia for hardcore buffs.  But if you don’t feel like visiting a Barnes and Noble [I almost typed Borders, but I don’t see those anymore], or dropping $30+, Squidoo has compiled the swords of the movies with miniature descriptions in them.  Enjoy below.

About 2 months ago, I posted a Youtube compilation of Steve Buscemi and his onscreen deaths.  Let’s be honest the man has a lot of them.  But then I stumbled upon someone else who has quite a number of onscreen deaths.  The great Sean Bean, known for his usually evil portrayals, often have him dying at the hands of many protagonists [save a couple of key roles].  This fantastic compilation/tribute to his many deaths differ from Buscemi’s in one major way: it has heart.  Buscemi’s was a rough compilation that was jumpy between scenes and lacked flow.  This particular video is much more beautiful with it’s wonderful Dead Island Trailer soundtrack that matches perfectly with key moments.  Let’s all bow our heads for a moment to honor Bean’s knack of getting killed.  Also below, an equally fantastic and emotional trailer to a popular video game Dead Island is posted below.  It too makes use of the chilling soundtrack to deliver a powerful and heart wrenching message.  Obvious spoilers to Sean Bean movies

There is a far better infographic below created by Cracked to finally settle the score between two beloved franchises.  The article primarily divides the fight between things like Dark Lord vs. hot female companion.  Check out the full thing below.

There are many great moments in movies where a speech is given to rally the troops right before an impending attack or an aggressive attack.  These are absolutely necessary for the soldier to not lose heart in the face of battle because discipline out-wins numbers or size 9 times out of 10.  So it lies on the speaker’s voice and words to influence a man to either stand and fight or run away like a coward.  Here are six speeches that would make me stand and fight for anyone for anything.

How do you rank the best of the best?  With loads of bias and favortism, that’s how.  I recently tried to finish up the past decade of best picture movies with finally watching Crash for the first time.  Now that all of that is said and done, I can finally attempt to rank each of these movies.  They’re all extremely good and it’s difficult to place on in front of the other for different reasons.  This ranking was as difficult as ranking Pixar’s best.  It’s just way too hard for someone to do without a score system of some sort.  Some have really strong supporting characters, others fantastic storylines.  How put one in front of the other?  In the end, I decided on placing movies I’d watch again and again as top priority.  Sure, my reasoning is full of holes and my descriptions don’t often justify the ranking, but I’m more doing this to hear what you guys have to say.  Anyways here’s the breakdown and thus the start of my journey to seal up the 90’s Best picture.  Here I come: Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, and Unforgiven.

The Lord of the Rings franchise is the one of the most powerful and memorable franchises in the history of cinema.  With such good source material, the internet has come up with clever ways to mock and satirize it.  Some are very gimicky and not that clever, and others are very well done. I have compiled some very awesome videos of the Lord of the Ring movie Parodies.  Enjoy them after the jump.
