Okay, so this isn’t the real audition tape, but it’s pretty damn good.  What we have here is Youtube user Damitsgood808 performing some hilarious comedic impressions, all to the tune of auditioning for the lead role in the movie Drive.  What’s funny is that he uses major pop culture icons as the roles, and his impressions and costumes are dead on.  I don’t know what came first, the SNL version [where they do Back to the Future] or this, but they’re both equally hilarious.  Be sure to check it out as well as his Youtube channel to view more of his impressions for different movies.

Does he shave his beard just for these roles, or does he seriously have that many stock beards….

Oh the romantic comedy.  Cliched, formulaic, and sappy.  It’s a staple of film to please the needs of the susceptible hearts and provides a means to fill our heads with ideas of true love and happiness.  So how is Crazy, Stupid, Love any different?  Simple answer: it isn’t.  It runs through the cliche moments, ends up exactly how I pictured it from the beginning and it’s as sappy as a maple wood tree.  But there lies the best aspects of this film.  While the film fires on all these seemingly tired cylinders, it’s charming and likable leads, a well written script, and plenty of heart transcends this the normal ‘Rom-Com’ that not only has me huddled in my sheets and pillows, but has enough twists to keep me interested as more than the traditional romantic comedy.

I’ve never known Ryan Gosling to be an action star.  I’ve affiliated him with movies like Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl, and Blue Valentine – a very talented actor who should stick with dramas.  So when I saw him in this movie with a premise very similar to Transporter, I was confused if whether or not he was simply getting a paycheck or if he found something special in the script he read.  After sitting through it, I found out which one of those were true.  And it turns out Ryan Gosling doesn’t need and likely never will require a ‘paycheck’ because Drive turns out to be one the best films of the year, and you’ll be seeing Gosling again and again after his mesmerizing performance.  SPOILERS.
