Meta drawing. In 2013, when I got a new graphics tablet, I drew a pool party containing character requests from some Facebook friends. In 2014, I redrew that pool party to showcase my skill progress. Here I am 3 years later redrawing the pool party again benchmarking my progress. It has been an incredible journey and I can’t wait to keep going.

What’s also fun is how some of these characters have grown in that time period. Ellie is older and Dany’s dragons have gotten considerably larger.

In this episode, we find that if you can’t mine diamonds, make them.  We also fight a wither in preparation for some beacon stuff.  Recorded this a while back, but this might be the last episode for a while.  I’ve made a lot more progress since then, but the server is beginning to suffer more than ‘worth dealing with’ amounts of lag.  Hope you guys enjoyed the series so far and maybe we’ll come back to it one day.

In this episode, we finally get power running and can clean up our ugly mess of a base.  Things are finally going my way a little bit and we can start working on some minorly ambitious projects.

When I recorded this, I was struggling a lot with Feed the Beast.  I was trying to run purely off solar energy and life was pretty desperate.  In this episode we take the first steps into really taking off in Tech World 2.

In modded Minecraft, the possibilities are endless.  We take a look at the base we’ve made on the BuzzCraft server, a Minecraft server dedicated to Georgia Tech students and alumni.  Naturally, being a tech school, we’ve elected to use a tech-based mod pack.  Follow along as I stumble my way learning the curve.

I’ve tried to the Minecraft Let’s Play thing before, but I’m approaching this one with a little different angle.  This first episode is primarily an introduction and tour, but the future episodes I already have cooked up will include more direction and objective completion.

From IGN, not very definitive, but who needs to explain Halo Minecraft? Anywho, take a look at some crazy ways people on Minecraft waste time.  Bah who am I kidding, if I had the slightest ability to make any of these things, I totally would dedicate the hours to do so.

Happy Minecraft Monday! To celebrate, let’s take a look at the some of the impressive ways Halo fans have expressed their love for the sci-fi shooter series…. in blocky Minecraft form.

This isn’t a sketch created from my Bamboo Create, but it’s rather a look at another creative project I’ve been working on.  Some members of our team on Banana Scoop are really into Minecraft, a game that I’ve written about here, here, and here.  We’ve finally created a server which allows us to play multiplayer and we have since then begun creating a small town.  We’re really proud of what we’ve created so far, and it’s only growing.  So sorry I haven’t been able to have time to draw, I’ve been really busy building these houses!  Here’s a look at the town created so far! Enjoy.

This is a really cool video regarding Minecraft!  The Creeper is one of the most feared creatures in the Minecraft world, and they’re kinda mysterious when it comes to where they come from.  On a developer’s note, apparently it was a pig design gone wrong, but in terms of game history, it’s hard to say.  To be honest, Minecraft doesn’t really reveal too much about story in the first place.  So I suppose we’ll just believe fan-made videos like these until the developers come up with something better.

From Cracked:

Aside from some jogging scenes in “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out,” the training montage never really made the transition from movies to video games. We asked you to show us what we’re missing out on, and why in some cases, that’s probably a good thing.

Minecraft is trending hard in my life, so I’m tending to write a lot about it recently. One of the toughest things about Minecraft is the lack of a rulebook.  If you’re not familiar with the Minecraft wiki or the game itself, getting started can be one of the hardest things.  The game doesn’t really tell you how to start or even what you’re supposed to do when you arrive on your randomly generated world.  And if you haven’t seen any videos or don’t have an experienced buddy playing with you, learning some of the pro tips can be difficult.  I learned about half of these for the first time only about a week ago and I’ve been playing for 2-3 months!  So this is for all who could use some tips to make the best of your Minecraft experiences!

1. Pressing Shift While Clicking Allows You to Move Directly from Inventory to Chest or Chest to Inventory

If you need to move mass stacks of objects from one place to another, holding shift while you click is a good way to do that!  Before that, you’d have to click things in individual objects.  This principle can be applied to removing things from ovens, chests, inventories, etc.  Definitely a must if you need to speed move.

Scheduled Break and Return

Banana Scoop is still scheduled to take a break in the week from September 16th to September 22nd to give us writers a break from school and other things.  In the meantime, our writers will be doing serious business to make Banana Scoop even better…or we’ll likely be playing Borderlands 2.  All four of us are into Borderlands, so it’s very likely that’s what we’ll be doing on our break.  Speaking of our fourth author…

New Author’s First Post this Week!

Earlier, I posted Rachel as a new author as well as her new avatar.  She’s posting her first article this week, so please visit and support her!  I’m not going to give the topic of her first article away, but it’s totally in league with what this site usually posts, so I guarantee you’ll enjoy it.  Rachel will be posting several times a month with no regimented scheudle unlike the other authors.  She’s going to try out what it’s like to publish for us and hopefully we’ll see her more frequently!

What I’m Doing This Week

art by dadonfuga

  • Reading: Mockingjay, Jurassic Park
  • Drawing: Edward Scissorhands, Harley Quinn, Random Page Button
  • Watching: Mad Men, Party Down, Cabin in the Woods

New Buttons

If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve changed the topic buttons as well as Favorite Scoops buttons.  The new topic buttons will reflect some of the things we’ll be reviewing and covering in the future: Borderlands 2, American Horror Story, Dexter, etc.  As always Fig Art subcategory will bring you to my Deviant Art page.

Page Changes and About Us

We’ll be changing up the Pages on the very top soon.  Universidaze and Weekly Calendar’s and maybe even Live Discussion Pages will be going down in favor of some more productive Pages like About Us.  I’m working on finalizing that so people can find out about Banana Scoop and its writers.

Weekly Preview

  • Minecraft Tips and Tricks
  • Mockingjay Review [Hopefully]
  • Similarities Between Brick and Romney
  • Louis CK Stand Up

I’m not much of a late night talk show guy, but out of the trope, I think I like Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien the most.  The latter has a small series that caters to two of our categories here at Banana Scoop: television and video games.  Conan isn’t much of a video game player, but he’ll often take up the sticks and play a game or two.  It’s really funny how he applies his wit to point out basic plot holes in hilarious ways.  You simply have to see it yourself.  I’ve included his ‘review’ on Minecraft and below includes Skyrim and some others.  Both Skyrim and Minecraft are absolutely hilarious, and I hope he does more in the future!

This image isn’t even that cool.  Pysch!!!  This is really cool.  But totally geeky.  It just really tickled my fancy because I’ve been crushing a lot of Minecraft lately.  With Aragorn screaming some classic Lord of the Rings lines, Legolas sees the dreaded Creepers, but instead of telling him they’re headed to Isengard, he does on the truly sensical thing: builds a wall of cobblestone.  Brilliant Legolas, but I also think that bow would’ve worked just as well.  Here’s to hoping it’s enchanted.

I’ve had Minecraft for a couple of months now and I’m continually finding new things to keep me interesting from the rather simple game.  There are still a number of things I still need to investigate and haven’t seen: The Nether, The End and an even larger number of things I haven’t crafted, pistons, enchanting tables, and potions.  So there are definitely a number of things I still need to do, despite playing hours upon hours of mining, digging, and cutting.  But of course, there are a number of experiences I want to share with you guys.  Here are 4 heart thumping moments I’ve had with my time with Minecraft.

Go get Minecraft here!
