Okay, so this isn’t the real audition tape, but it’s pretty damn good.  What we have here is Youtube user Damitsgood808 performing some hilarious comedic impressions, all to the tune of auditioning for the lead role in the movie Drive.  What’s funny is that he uses major pop culture icons as the roles, and his impressions and costumes are dead on.  I don’t know what came first, the SNL version [where they do Back to the Future] or this, but they’re both equally hilarious.  Be sure to check it out as well as his Youtube channel to view more of his impressions for different movies.

Does he shave his beard just for these roles, or does he seriously have that many stock beards….

One would believe that this post was inspired by the recent popularity of my Tuesday post, 10 Favorite TV Characters of the Year, but in reality, both of these posts were written back to back and I just simply queued this one for a later date.  And especially as the ‘new year’ escapes us, I wanted to publish as many of these, ‘wrap up 2011’ posts as quickly as possible.  So please don’t fry my buns and deem this post as a selfish attempt to get more views.  But even if you never thought that in the first place, let’s get on with the show.

I’ve never known Ryan Gosling to be an action star.  I’ve affiliated him with movies like Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl, and Blue Valentine – a very talented actor who should stick with dramas.  So when I saw him in this movie with a premise very similar to Transporter, I was confused if whether or not he was simply getting a paycheck or if he found something special in the script he read.  After sitting through it, I found out which one of those were true.  And it turns out Ryan Gosling doesn’t need and likely never will require a ‘paycheck’ because Drive turns out to be one the best films of the year, and you’ll be seeing Gosling again and again after his mesmerizing performance.  SPOILERS.
