Spring television is in full force and a plethora of shows have premiered while others have continued. If I had to choose between hype for Fall 2013 television and Spring 2014 television, just writing about this line up makes me believe that Spring 2014 television just might trump whatever Fall 2013 aired [and that might include Breaking Bad…]. I say this because a lot of two-season (Fall to Spring) shows begin doing their crazy stunts and plot twists during sweeps week as their seasons wrap up. This means shit hits the fan for multiple shows, sometimes all at once, creating some of the memorable television shows of the year. This week’s post will reflect on what’s been aired so far as well as a small preview of what’s to come in the following weeks.

It’s winter break from my University which means I’m home and have nothing to do. So naturally I watch as much television as can be permitted. My long list of television is ever expanding and I spend more than a normal amount of time trying to shorten it, but if often gets longer and longer. This winter break is a time for shortening the list considerably before I get responsibilities again [ugh, School]. So here’s my list of TV to watch, I often update what I’m watching in my Twitter, so be sure to follow it if you wanna chime in some suggestions as I live tweet these sum-bitches.
Here they are below in no particular order

Morning Link: Joffrey Could Be Robert Baratheon’s Actual Child?

From Elizabeth Finn via Uproxx
If we consider just the bastard children that are mentioned in the books, [Ned Stark] didn’t have enough evidence to really make this determination. We know of four bastard children, all with dark hair. If Robert is homozygous BB, then this is by far the most likely outcome. However, if Robert is heterozygous Bb, he would still have dark hair, and it would still be fairly likely for four bastard children to have dark hair (think about flipping a coin and getting four heads in a row). When you add in the fact that some of his mistresses and whores likely had dark coloration as well, it becomes even more likely that all four illegitimate children have dark hair. So as far as Ned knows, Robert could well be Bb. And if he is, then the fact that he had three blonde children with the almost certainly bb Cersei Lannister is again reasonably likely. This is why Tyrion remarks that Joffrey’s – and hence Cersei’s – claim would be foolproof if she had had even one child with Robert: someone with dark hair married to someone with light hair having some children with light hair and some children with dark hair is utterly normal.

Hey-Oh, what’s up!? Another update on how we’re progressing here on Banana Scoop with a couple of new details on what we’ll be working on for the next week or so. It’s primarily art announcements where I’m talking about some new icons and pictures I want to replace here and there. The biggest story of the week is how we recently reached 100,000 views overall which is a big deal for a small blog like ourselves. Check out the full update below!
An Incredible Marker, our 100,000th Hit
Banana Scoop has some fantastic news to share with you all! It has received over 100,000 hits in total since it’s first conception! We’re incredibly blessed and over the year ago I started this blog, there have been a combination of both good and bad times. The older times where, I was all alone with deadlines all over the place and the good times where I was fortunate enough to be Freshly Pressed, twice.
Every Death in Game of Thrones Season 1

Need to fill your for gore and death? Love Game of Thrones? Then this video is for you! These two videos compile all the deaths from the first season of Game of the Thrones. It gets pretty brutal and shows with high body counts are slightly disturbing, especially because it seems that it can be directly proportional to how popular the show is….What does that say about society? What does it say about society that these videos have 200 thousands hits combined with an overall positive liking bar…
If that’s distrubing think about a video that compiles all the nudity of Game of Throne and see how many hits it gets…Well I’m actually probably sure that it already exists and it probably has more hits than this site has in total…[which is as of recently a wee bit short of 100,000].
The Game of Thrones Singing Cat

More than once [like a bajillion times], I’ve been caught in a web of videos that all include cats doing silly things. Here we have a cat doing both a silly and awesome thing. A user essentially made a cat’s singular meow to the tune of HBO’s Game of Thrones opening theme. How is this even possible? How does one conceive this idea and proceed to get millions upon millions of views.
And of course, there’s also a dog doing the same damn thing, which I included below. This is why the internet was invented.
Breaking Bad Alt. Curb Your Entusiasm Cuts for Season 5

MASSIVE SEASON 5 Breaking Bad spoilers in these videos so, otherwise stay away! These two clips I have are cuts from major scenes of Breaking Bad season 5. These cuts include trademark Curb Your Enthusiasm humor and soundtrack. I don’t watch too much Curb Your Enthusiasm, but I’ve seen enough to understand its dark humor, which is relayed and augmented in these clips. My head is still reeling from the Breaking Bad season 5 midseason finale. So these little pop culture quips will have to keep me going until the next 10 months….
Walking in the Garden: The Wire Series Recommendation

It’s been over a year since I pledged to watch The Wire and I’ve finally accomplished it. People have gone to great lengths to define the greatest television drama of all time, with The Wire more than often reaching the finals if not being the victor. That’s what truly inspired me to get in on this in the first place. I mean, regardless of content, personal taste, or opinion, if this many people are praising it or even talking about it as much as they are, I figured it would definitely be worth the shot.
So 5 seasons later, which equivocates to over 40 hours, [5 seasons with about 10 episodes each episode having 50 minutes] here I stand, finally having an opinion on what is regarded as one of the greatest shows on television. And shit, boy did it not disappoint. We’ll keep this discussion spoiler free as I’ll tread lightly on some of the high points of the series. Read on below to either learn about the Wire or simply relive some memories.
Game of Thrones Fighter Game

This is a cool image created by Dynamaito and it features Game of Thrones characters as street fighters. It’s really neat how many small nods there are: Hear Me Roar, the Lanniser slogan. Bronn as a back up. Tyion’s infamous slaps. Paying debts. The small council in the background. Joffrey looking like a bitch. I would totally buy this game. I hear the only Game of Thrones game out there was that rpg that didn’t do so hot. This is the kind of game they need, one where they can’t tinker with the ambitious story scope and just capitalize on the many references they could fit into characters, back ups, settings, and attacks.

Awesome Game of Thrones Impressions

I went to a comedy club last night and I’m just extremely shocked how ordinary people can completely imitate famous celebrities, despite their complete opposite appearance. So when I see this Youtube video of this fella in his room, speaking lines from Game of Thrones in perfect accents, it’s absolutely hilarious. At first he’s fairly serious, speaking lines verbatim, but as soon as he reaches Jorah Mormont, he finds himself saying the most absurd things that concern bunions. And adding a harsh Khaelesi at the end of every line is the icing on the cake!
9 Reasons Why You Should Watch The Newsroom

Coming at ya with zero spoilers
1. There really is something wrong with the mainstream media
For those of you who have not seen the show here is the one sentence Wikipedia synopsis. “It features an ensemble cast including Jeff Daniels as anchor Will McAvoy, who, together with his staff set out to put on a news show in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.” The premise behind this news show is that it will be one that will present only unbiased facts that facilitate relevant, honest debate with the intention of informing American voters. I interpret this as a deliberate and exhilarating smackdown on the lacking mainstream media that people patronize today. I should mention now that this is a largely political show. A politically interested viewer will get more from this show. If you are not at all interested in politics… still watch the show.
Jon Stewart said it best. The mainstream media, particularly Fox News and MSNBC, is utterly biased towards “sensationalism, conflict and laziness;” in addition to “relentless partisanship.” I wholeheartedly agree with Jon Stewart and that is why, in addition to its quality drama, I think The Newsroom is so refreshing. Whether you agree or not The Newsroom will make you re-evaluate your opinion on how news is presented to you. And it will do so by respinning the biggest news stories of this past year.
5 Pieces of Pop Culture I Was Introduced to From Entertainment Weekly
Posted in Books, Lists, Television, tagged ABC, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, glee, happy endings, HBO, louie, louis ck, Parks and Recreation on August 24, 2012| 1 Comment »
I’ve been a subscriber to Entertainment Weekly since 2009 I believe. I actually do read it [most of the time] from cover to end. It’s absolutely one of my favorite magazines for several reasons. 1) It’s not so much a gossip magazine that focuses on the most uninteresting people that so many people find interesting. 2) They cover two industries I love dearly: movies and television. 3) They get the most absurdly early looks at upcoming projects such as pictures or interviews. And finally 4) In the past they’ve introduced me to some of the most beloved shows I’ve come to know.
Sure not all their stories are the best [I can’t tell you how many times K-Stew and R-Pats have been on the damn cover and I groaned], but I’ve compiled a list of 5 pieces of pop culture [coincidentally all TV shows] that, while always hearing they were great, I didn’t actually start paying attention to until I read an article on Entertainment Weekly. And surprisingly enough, they weren’t all cover stories. Read on below for the full Scoop.

It might’ve been a couple of months since Game of Thrones ended. What a drag those months have been. That doesn’t mean we’ll stop posting about it though. This article ranks the hottest women from Game of Thrones Season 1 and 2. It’s fun to speculate who is number one, but it really shouldn’t surprise you. Roxanne McKee, pictured above, plays Doreah who got the number 2 slot. I’m not complaining about that. Check out the entire ranking system below at Ranker.
Game of Thrones Pay Phone

A catchy, lovable parody of Maroon 5’s Pay Phone. The singer however does play the role of Adam Levine seeing as he mentions both The Voice and Maroon 5. The idea is he’s essentially addicted to Game of Thrones and sings about it in the tune of Pay Phone. He mentions plot points and explains some of the reasons why the series is so good. Like everyone else, he’s also confused who he should root for as well as he feels pity for some of the show’s victims. It’s an overall cute and quirky video that you should definitely check out for a neat foot tapper.

Be sure to check out the list and if you like even half of the shows on the list, you should check out the rest because they’lll likely fit your taste as well.
The New Castings of Game of Thrones

Comic Con was a week or two ago, and a lot of awesome stuff was revealed and announced. Amongst them was the casting announcement of several new characters to be featured in Game of Thrones Season 3 aka Storm of Swords. I absolutely love seeing some of these characters come alive to see if they fit the version I created in my head. Especially versus the how I originally was able to see them in season 1 before reading the books. Seeing the dude from Narnia be Jojen is a pretty good nail on the head, as well as Bryndon Tully. I was especially impressed with Melisandre and Davos Seaworthy casting, and I’m sure once the make up and costumes are on, I won’t be able to tell the difference at all. It’s all very exciting. As for an update with Dance with Dragons, I’m nearing the last 100 pages, a review is scheduled for next week!
Can’t believe we have to wait an entire year for season 3!!!
Louie, Louie, Loiue, Louieeeee! – A Louie Review

I’ve finally caught up with FX’s Louie to season 3 and there are a lot of feelings. Louie is not your traditional comedy. It doesn’t play by the rules of other sitcoms. The lead character is probably on the bottom of the tv totem poll of lead characters in terms of looks or glamour. There is no useless eye candy of a character to buy in its viewers. The jokes aren’t as obvious. And the it’s definitely one of the harder shows to watch on regular programming. But while these things are often used as a means to berate any given show, these are actually Louie’s strengths.
Louis C.K. the creator and star of the show says that this show of his is set around 5 years before he claims to ‘have made it big’, when he was a semi-struggling comic tasked with raising his kids from a joint custody divorce. He’s overweight, balding, and is awkward in social situations. His life has its ups and downs [mostly downs], but Louie seems to have a certain…’code’ he lives to. And when the absurdities of society humanity try to warp and influence his code, he’s put in a fixed position: conform or defy. Much of the optimism in a relatively dark show is displayed through these moments when Louis stays true to himself, but one of the show’s [few] problems is that it takes so long to get there, it’s difficult to stay along for the ride to wait for the punchline [which is ironically no punchline in some cases]. All in all, Louie boils down to many hard truths that are difficult to hear, but resonate with profound meaning…all while making us laugh at some of the situations he’s put into. Check out my review and some of the highlights of what is definitely one of the smarter TV shows on air right now.
