Parks and Recreation - Season 5

It’s no secret that my love for television extends beyond many of my other loves.  These include video games, movies, drawing, books, and comic books.  Doing these recaps are my favorite because it allows you to share with everyone about your favorite shows and gives others a chance to chime in their opinions on what I’m missing out on!  Trust me, these kind of things actually happen because it’s because of my readers that I got into Modern Family!

Anywho, Winter/Spring television is very much started and some shows only have a week or two left before their finales, but I figured now would be a good time to recap on what’s happened and why you should pick up on the shows I’m watching!  11 Shows this season, can you keep up?

Fall TV is probably the best season of TV.  There’s just about something on from Sunday to Sunday every night and it’s such a refreshing start after a dull summer of waiting every Sunday for Breaking Bad.  So with Fall TV having started most of it’s major players, I’m writing a little update to share with you everything I’m watching.  Looking at this list, I watch a helluva lot of television.  And I love every minute of it.

Read below if you’re following the….following…shows.  Otherwise spoilers beware!

  • New Girl
  • Happy Endings
  • Modern Family
  • Parks and Recreation
  • It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  • Dexter
  • Homeland
  • The Walking Dead
  • American Horror Story: Asylum
  • Boardwalk Empire
  • South Park
  • Family Guy

There are several ‘Annie Vs. Britta Debates’ on the internet.  By Annie Vs. Britta debates, I mean take two female characters of any show and deciding who I would rather be in a relationship with.  While this seems pitiful at first, you can’t help but have thought this about any show you watched. The choices includes personality, looks, attitude, etc.  I read a cool article that brought up 10 cases that should be looked at here.  Now I’ll admit that I haven’t seen all 10 of the shows, but I do have strong opinions on the ones I have seen.  It’s also a reasonable excuse to post pictures of my favorite characters of some of my favorite tv shows at their best moments.

Check out my breakdown below.  Minor Spoilers About.

This is from Community loving artist Tinderbox210, who has a distinct love for Community.  So much that she makes multiple fake movie posters for in-show jokes like Inspector Spacetime and the Dreamatorium.  The posters are real reminiscent of those old timey posters for movies like Starwars and Tron, but with contemporary faces makes it all the better.  I’m not entirely sure where she got all the images for some of them, although I recognize Joel McHale’s look from Spy Kids 4.  But seriously Gillian, when on earth did you get that outfit?  Look forward to Community’s return this October.  Look below for the Dreamtorium movie poster and Scary Movie poster and then be sure to visit Tinderbox210 for more Community based art!

Community Season 3 outtakes.  They’re absolutely hilarious.  It’s crazy how vulgar these guys actually are.  Especially Alison Brie and Joel McHale.  Season 3 was definitely a great season, but it makes me sad to think how this next season could be its last.  With a Friday slot and new show runners, Community could well be on its last season.  And the worst part is that it could out with a fizzle because Dan Harmon, the previous show runner, was behind a lot of the brilliance.  But we’ll see.  Meanwhile, these season 3 bloopers should hold you off until season 4.

Another Banana Scoop week with some minor changes here and there.  A new month here and I wish I had more upcoming changes.  There are a couple of major things I’m trying to keep under wraps, but of course, I wanna keep them as surprises.

Scheduled Break September 16th – 22nd

Banana Scoop will have a scheduled break to allow our writers to catch up and relax.  It is regrettable for this to happen, but I feel as though our writers deserve a break for providing such amazing content to our fan base.  There is only strict coincidence that this is the same week that Borderlands 2 comes out…By no means will I be only playing Borderlands 2 and not writing articles to play catch up…that would be unethical XD.

Fall TV is upon us and it nothing is more exciting than scheduling days of the week with my favorite tv shows to look forward to.  The glorious return of some favorites such as Parks and Recreation, Happy Endings, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are sure to make the weeks better and then Sunday night is filled with madness as well.  Not football madness, but the 9:00 and 10:00 spot will be heavily competed for when it comes to Dexter, The Walking Dead, and Boardwalk Empire.  How do you guys cope with so much television?  Don’t you dare say “I don’t watch it”, because that’s inexcusable.  Just kidding, but anywho, I’ve compiled the trailers and expectations of some of my favorite shows, so check ’em out below!  The spoilers in the drama season are likely to be huge, so tread lightly!

This is a cool image from Cracked that essentially shows how NBC’s Scrubs and Community are essentially the same show.  The image itself is neat due to the fact that the calling cards for the community college kids and Sacred Heart Hospital are fairly well done.  But the real wit is drawing up the similarities between the shows main characters.  Some descriptions are broader than others, but a few truly hit the nail on the head.  As soon as they start making Abed say, ‘Eagle!!!!’ once I’m out.

Gosh I miss Scrubs

Well this is a hella awesome photo.  If I got by their street names, Annie, Ron, and Tammy 2 all seemingly love one thing a little too much.  And while Tammy and Annie are clearly having a blast, Ron doesn’t seem to be phased.  Shit’s probably too weak for a man like him.  Anywho, this was a really cool photo that I stumbled upon and I thought it necessary to share it with you.  And while Parks and Recreation is something to look forward to, can the same be said about Community. Sure, I’ll definitely tune in to see how different the show will be, but only because of that reason.  The show won’t have the same quirkiness and wit as usual with Dan Harmon out of the picture.

Spring TV may be over, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it.  With most television shows, I often fall in love with some of the leads, which lends it itself to about a thick 30-40% of why I’d watch any given television show,  with story and humor/drama being the other 30% or so each.  So today, I kinda compiled some of my favorite crushes from this past season and some of the reasons why I fell so hard for them.

The criteria of why I chose some of the women include the following: 1) Attractiveness – most people in this industry are fairly attractive.  From this category, I’m looking for unique looking people who behold beauty in their own special way. 2) Personality – Most of the people on this list will make me laugh.  It’s truly the gateway into most men’s heart.  And when you have to choose from a list of all beautiful looking women, character personality is a good way to divide the lines. 3) Plot Driving – Whether they’re actually essential to the story or just a pretty face is kinda important to me.  It makes it so much more intimate when the characters you care for actually mean something to story.  4) Fashion Sense – I’m a self confirmed Metrosexual, so I value the way women look and carry themselves.  Their choice in wardrobe is very important to me.

Each girl will be based on a scale of 1-5 for each category.  However, each girl only has 15 points to be spent on the four categories, so I had to choose carefully.  Read below how I rated all my crushes.

Community is a show for geeks.  No, not in the same way Big Bang Theory is for geeks, where obvious and overplayed stereotypes are the jokes [my dislike for CBS knows no bounds], but in a clever, cool-geek-chic type of way.  They do parodies of gangster films, had an entire episode dedicated to being a video game, and constantly refer to tons of movie and other television culture.  Here’s a list of some of the more geekier moments.

Spring Television for the most part is coming to a close. Most of the shows have hit their finales, save for a couple of the heavy dramas. We’ve recently been bombarded with news about shows coming back, being cancelled, and some new ones. I personally haven’t sampled many of the new clips that preview the fall shows, but I’m sure some are bound to be promising. I’ve divided this awards ceremony by two pages: one for comedies and the other for dramas. There’s a lot of bias here and there and my opinion is erratic, but I like to think there is some truth to my choices. And I may or may not of come up with custom titles simply so I could put all of the shows I watched [and didn’t watch] this wonderful spring season.

Back before when Community was still on hiatus, a number of people did artistic works in support of the beloved series.  When it was announced it would return come March 15th, the internet went in a storm of laughter and rejoice.  As a result, there were even more fan tributes to the series.  This one I’ve included is a tastefully done mash up of Community and the Dark Knight rises.  The most spine chilling moment for me was when Chang played Bane.  Perfect timing.

Here are some compiled some artist interpretations of the cast of Community in different universes.  I’ve shown an interpretation before as the cast as X-Men and I’ve included below in the gallery along with some other ones Warming Glow found.  Gotham Villains and Calvin and Hobbes be praised.  And I loved the whole Streets Ahead reference in the Street Fighter mash up.  I’ve also added links to their deviantart pages so be sure to support them by at least visiting them.

Lol, I tried Googling ‘Giancarlo Esposito’ and ‘Community’ and this came up, so I said to hell with it, I’m using this as my image.  A while back it was confirmed that Espositio, most known for his role as Gus Fring on AMC’s Breaking Bad.  Now for season 3, Dan Harmon had already booked the badass Michael Kenneth Williams, and I’d imagine they’d also book this scary character for an equally intimidating role.  It is rumored that he will appear as Pierce Hawthorne’s late father’s associate.  We can only imagine what he’d be like after meeting Pierce’s colorfully racist father.  Speculate with me.

Gus Fring will Star in Community

In case you need to really see who this man is, decent spoilers to Breaking Bad season 4:

Can’t wait to see this man do comedy.

Dance sequences in TV is quite possibly one of the most mysteriously awesome things.  ESPECIALLY if the show isn’t about dancing.  While dancing in Glee is almost a given, Friends, Seinfeld, Scrubs, and other network sitcoms sometimes treat us with the main characters pulling a dancing routine right out of their asses.  Warming Glow has compiled some of the best sites in Youtube videos.  I almost compiled my own, but it would’ve been so similar to this list, it would’ve looked like I completely copied them.  And I’m trying to cut back on the illegal computer blogging rules.  So here’s the direct link instead.  While It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia makes the cut with their dance themed episode, I think the finale dance for season 7 might make the cut.  The video below the link

I had a post regarding the amount of leg Angelina Jolie was showing at the Oscars a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve successfully moved that tomorrow with the post regarding the Best Pictures as infographics.  They hardly fit well together, but this is waaaaay more important than any Oscar related news. E!’s The Soup, hosted by Joel McHale plans to shows this swag as hell trailer regarding Community’s awesome return.

I got goosebumps. I got chills. I may have cried. Evil Abed returns. Dreamatorium. My god, the best thing to happen to television returns and it looks as GODLY as ever.

[Update] Hopefully the continual playing stops as does the continual updating.  I’m sorry for the inconvenience.  Please let me know if a situation still arises.

I left yesterday on a sour note when I was discussing movies vs televison.  I tried to end on a conclusion describing why the reason the imbalance of 3:1 occurs, but it was my birthday and I had to deal with academic issues.  So I’m tying up some loose ends with this post, describing why I watch television as a whole.  This isn’t a post to describe why television is better than movies, because in reality, they’re just two separate entities that is similar to comparing apples to oranges.  So here’s a list on how I justify watching so much television that is probably related to anyone who has ever turned on a TV.

USDIRECT.com created this sweet boardgame that pitches the study group against each other for priority registration.  Roll the dice and battle through hilarious trivia, references, and jokes in a Candyland-esque fashion as you make way for priority registration.  Check below for the entire image as well as click on it to get a full version.  You may want to save this to print out later for an actual board game.  TV kudos to anyone who actually does this.

In other Community news: Community is reschedule to come back March 15th at 8:00 pm.  Unfortunately this pitches it up against Thursday night powerhouse Big Bang Theory, but in the state of NBC, I’m sure it will remain one of the stronger candidates for renewel.

In other, other Community news: I recently watched The Descendants [wait for my review next week along with Hugo], and I saw Jim Rash aka Dean Pelton was one of the main accredited writers.  I would love to see a Jim Rash acceptance speech, but not over a Kristen Wiig acceptance speech.  But in all honesty I would just love it if any of those two showed up and held one of those statues.

2011 had a lot of good television.  One thing that makes the television good is the likable/badass/hilarious characters that we’ve come to love, hate, or even love to hate.  Whether it be new or old, we had some of the most powerful performances this year and it’s quite difficult to rank them all.  And with each show having at least 5 main characters, choosing 10 characters from the best shows on air was rather difficult.    What made this even harder was that I had to balance the 2010-2011 midseason line ups with 2011 fall tv line ups, but ultimately everything eventually fell into place as I realized clearly who was better than the other.  Hit the jump to view the rest.
