Movies adapted into games have largely been written off, and most TV-to-game adaptations have been pretty dismal. But by taking a game and putting it in a style that you wouldn’t expect, the results can be great. You would have thought a Walking Dead game would have emulated similarly themed titles like Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead.

I went to a comedy club last night and I’m just extremely shocked how ordinary people can completely imitate famous celebrities, despite their complete opposite appearance. So when I see this Youtube video of this fella in his room, speaking lines from Game of Thrones in perfect accents, it’s absolutely hilarious. At first he’s fairly serious, speaking lines verbatim, but as soon as he reaches Jorah Mormont, he finds himself saying the most absurd things that concern bunions. And adding a harsh Khaelesi at the end of every line is the icing on the cake!

So this is a really cool image about Nintento’s past with controllers. It’s a really neat graphic that morphs the Nintendo Entertainment System controller through all the other controllers that lead up to this current Wii controller. It’s really neat at first at how buttons are slowly added slowly and then all of a sudden, you change from the Gamecube controller to the tiny Wii stick. I’m sure in a couple of months the creator will make a new .gif that includes the Wii U controller. That hulking mass of a tablet/controller.

So we’ve seen what Nintendo intends to bring to the next generation. The WiiU is comprised of a console and a tablet-like controller that allows you far more immersion into the gaming world than we’ve had originally, but that’s always been Nintendo’s survival tool. They strayed away from the normal controller based gameplay in favor of something motion based, giving the player essentially free reign to a degree on what they did in a game. Slashing the air ended up cutting down an enemy in game, and multiple other actions did other things not to mention the variety of mini games made endlessly fun (I.E. Mario Party). My question concerning that is, “what comes next?”. While we can easily look at Nintendo, who have already spoiled their next gen console for the masses and say, “That was obviously the next step in their evolution.”, is it really all that simple? Sure enough we’re all pretty bias considering we already know what they’re bringing to the party, but I can’t say that I would have said that a few months ago when speculation was still the norm. That’s because most movies aren’t written that way; the bad guy is just there to create conflict and cool scenes for the hero, regardless of whether there is any logic to it from his own point of view. We’ve already gone over some villains who accidentally saved the day with their own actions. But at least those bad guys screwed up without realizing it. Here are the ones who seem to go out of their way to sabotage their own plans …

So…one of my favorite games has just been released for the iPhone. The World Ends With You is an immersing and wonderful game developed by the minds over at Square Enix. Focusing on Neku Sakuraba and a mysterious set of circumstances, you’re guided through a world of intrigue and puzzles and monsters that only SquEnix could deliver. A direct port of the popular DS game, TWEWY has finally come to the iOS in fully retrofitted glory. Considering my loss of the original DS game cartridge for TWEWY, this was naturally a step in the right direction as it didn’t require me to lug around my huge original handheld in order to play. Anyway, I hope you guys take the time to check it out and lemme know what you think, but beware that this game is ridiculously steep at 17.99$ for an app. The price may turn you off, but also keep in mind that you’re getting a FULL DS game essentially.

Coming at ya with zero spoilers
1. There really is something wrong with the mainstream media
For those of you who have not seen the show here is the one sentence Wikipedia synopsis. “It features an ensemble cast including Jeff Daniels as anchor Will McAvoy, who, together with his staff set out to put on a news show in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.” The premise behind this news show is that it will be one that will present only unbiased facts that facilitate relevant, honest debate with the intention of informing American voters. I interpret this as a deliberate and exhilarating smackdown on the lacking mainstream media that people patronize today. I should mention now that this is a largely political show. A politically interested viewer will get more from this show. If you are not at all interested in politics… still watch the show.
Jon Stewart said it best. The mainstream media, particularly Fox News and MSNBC, is utterly biased towards “sensationalism, conflict and laziness;” in addition to “relentless partisanship.” I wholeheartedly agree with Jon Stewart and that is why, in addition to its quality drama, I think The Newsroom is so refreshing. Whether you agree or not The Newsroom will make you re-evaluate your opinion on how news is presented to you. And it will do so by respinning the biggest news stories of this past year.

New York is probably one of the most recognizable cities in America. All throughout the past, present, and future, movies and television have all been set in the very busy streets of New York. As a southern born and raised man like myself, I don’t necessarily get the magic of New York, but if there are literally lists that have the best movies set in new york and there are nearly 100 of them, clearly something is over my head. Anyways, check the list out below.

I feel bad because it seems as though all the talk around Bane is about comparisons, despite him being extremely original on his own. His comparison to Heath Ledger’s Joker, his comparison to the muscle headed behemoth in Batman Forever, and now this comparison of his pre-sound edited and post-sound edited voice in the Dark Knight Rises. The video plays the side by side same scene, both taken out of a theater it seems which results in the low quality, and shows what Bane sounded like with Nolan’s intended Bane voice and then the following post-sound mixing. I had a hard enough time hearing everything Tom Hardy said in that mask, and when I watched this video, I was even more irritated with the muffling. I hear in the DVD/BluRay release, Nolan will include both of the mixes. Will I watch the original? Probably, but with the aide of subtitles to help me catch on to things that I may have missed as well. Kudos to those who’ll watch the original mix WITHOUT subtitles. May God have mercy on your soul.

Deadpool very well might be the internet’s favorite superhero. The self-aware hero not only sports rapid regeneration and super human strength, he has a killer sense of humor and a rather large mouth to relay it. I found this awesome collection of .gifs from a cosplayer who was Deadpool at the most recent Comic-con. The results are hilarious as he encounters a number of people from both his universe and others. Whether it ‘s refusing to be caught in a Pokeball, digging up a Diglet, encountering another Deadpool, or even whipping his hair back and forth, these Deadpool .gifs truly capture he essence and hilarity of Deadpool. Enjoy the large gallery below.

I’ve never been more excited for a game than the upcoming sequel to 2009’s runaway hit Borderlands. Combining RPG and FPS shooter elements to a quirky styled game made an excellent stew of a game. Leveling up and variety of guns made the staying power and the mayhem of fire fights made the fun. Despite owning the game for a couple of months now, I’ve made it a goal to finish the first one by killing Crawmerax the Invincible before the September 18th release date. As we wait though, the developers Gearbox Software has been slowly trickling out information to satiate the rabid fanbase. And it looks like it won’t disappoint. By giving the game a better story, varied environments, and face to the villain, all the main problems seem to be already have fixed. And by adding even more guns, crazier enemies, and new classes, we might be looking at Game of the Year right here. I’ve consolidated a lot of the media Gearbox has released in this post, be sure to check it all out.

There’s a lot of sex and nudity in A Song of Ice and Fire. And that trend followed and might have even been augmented in the HBO adaptation, Game of Thrones. All the nudity certainly gathered attention and when George R.R. Martin, author and executive producer of the books and television show respectively was approached about it, he had a rather cool way of replying to it.
I can describe an axe entering a human skull in great explicit detail and no one will blink twice at it. I provide a similar description, just as detailed, of a penis entering a vagina, and I get letters about it and people swearing off. To my mind this is kind of frustrating, it’s madness. Ultimately, in the history of [the] world, penises entering vaginas have given a lot of people a lot of pleasure. Axes entering skulls, well, not so much.

2 Best Friends is a web series created by Machinima that features 2 hardcore gamers as they live commentary new games. Even though anyone can get drunk and play a video game, but these guys are actually pretty witty. There’s a combination of light racism, plot hole points, and even legitimate gameplay mechanics. Whether the game is awful or awesome, they’ll probably be there making fun of it. I’ve included some of my favorite videos. They’re pretty long, but there’s certainly some creative one-liners in each. I recommend you check out their Youtube channel and find some of your favorite games they’ve critiqued. You’ll definitely be entertained.

Breaking Bad aired last night and I’m reeling. I admit I expected a lot of the events to happen, but the execution was exciting as always. The soundtrack this year is absolutely astounding and fitting for so many occasions. I even thought of Drive at a certain point. Anywho, this episode, Say My Name, is the episode before the season finale. As a whole after seeing this episode, I’m curious how it will all wrap up, considering that this episode didn’t really set up anything major to happen. There was a lot of resolution in many places, and could honestly have been the season finale itself. That means huge things will happen next episode and they’ll happen quickly. Anywho, let’s summarize what happened last night below. As always, major spoilers below!

Here’s an awesome infographic by the Oatmeal. He has awesomely observed that the more hair you have on this show, the less dangerous you are. And if you’re bald, you’re like a psycho. It goes through all the characters on the show including those dead and main characters over time. In addition, he’s included some hilarious ‘weapon of choices’. Saul Goodman’s include ‘Epic one-liners’ and awesomely enough Walter’s weapon of choice in both early and later seasons include Science. Check out the whole infographic below and be sure to visit the Oatmeal.

Today’s Morning Link(s) is wickedly exciting because it is about one of the coolest sites on the interweb and how it funded one of the coolest gaming projects of the year. The site is Kickstarter and the treasure is the Ouya. If you are familiar with both of these beauties I still encourage you to comment and bond with me in manic excitement. If you are unfamiliar with Kickstarter it is a crowd funding website dedicated to creative projects. Anyone with a creative idea can submit a video and receive funding from the Kickstarter community to make their dream a reality. If you are interested in Kickstarter get your artistic/innovative/favorite pants on and start browsing!
The second and more seductive half of today’s Morning Link is the Ouya. The Ouya is an upcoming video game console due in early 2013 that runs on the open source Android platform, starts at $99, and requires every game to offer some kind of free-to-play option. The Ouya was Kickstarter’s fastest project to reach the one million dollar donated mark and finished at a grand total of $8,596,475. The Ouya represents everything that the console gaming world has been missing; portability, affordability, and ease of game development. I’m going to cut myself off now because when I talk about the Ouya too much my face starts to melt. Please check out the Ouya Kickstarter campaign that made it all possible here and the official site here.

Another week on Banana Scoop! The schedule is going strong despite school trying to muck it up. And with Ben’s arrival, I’m having an easier time juggling all the maintenance, writing, and drawing. I may also be scheduling some designated maintenance based on my test schedule that I’ve already written in my calendar. But otherwise, here’s the rest of this week’s news.
What I’m Watching/Reading/Drawing This Week
- Watching: Firefly/Serenity Marathon, The Wire Season 5
- Reading: Mockingjay, Jurassic Park
- Drawing: SoGoCJE, About Us Drawing
Mockingjay Got Delayed a Week
Mockingjay review was slated to be published last week, but school kinda held me up from reading the book. And as I’ve found out with the rest of the masses, Mockingjay is a bit of a drag. The first two were high adrenaline and fast paced, but this particular book is one of the slower ones, and a bit whiney. A full review hopefully this Friday.
The Possibility of Another New Writer
With Ben getting settled in and possibly taking in more than just his scheduled Wednesday primary article, a new possibility of another writer has arrived! That would bring our ‘staff’ to 4. This mystery writer would not be a regular poster, but would contribute whenever they could. We’re very excited at this prospect and we’ll update you all soon again.
Weekly Preview
- Borderlands 2 Preview and Preparation
- Reasons to Watch The Newsroom
- Good TV Shows Becoming Video Games
- Deadpool at Comic-Con

User Avatars continue their revamp with Bruce losing his lovable, cartoonish feel for a fierce and hardcore update. I’ve always been ambiguous if he was an ape or a gorilla and I decided to go with the more fierce one. Bruce loves movies, television, and video games, but his Macbook Pro is probably his most prized possession Like me, he finds happiness in the simple things like fruits, Adobe Software, and Mac OS.
SoGoCJE is getting a revamp as well, look forward to it next week. See Bruce’s old look below.

If there’s anything Weekend Funnies have taught me, is that not everyone has the same sense of humor. But the internet is a generally a collection of everyone and the sheer compilation of the wit and humor that each individual contributes essentially represents the most broadest and generalist appeals to mankind. So when I choose the 24 images for each Weekend Funny, I know the reason I think it’s funny will be at least funny to some percentage of the world. And even if the it’s the smallest 1%, 1% of 7 billion is still 700 million. So I apologize if you’re offended, disgusted, or upset. Truth be told, if you can’t handle these 24 images, you likely shouldn’t be on the internet anyways. So stop worrying about racism, sexism, and other means of being upset. Just keep scrolling, and remember: no one’s looking, it’s okay to smile at something someone would frown upon.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis went wild to campaign for their new movie The Campaign. They did a number of viral videos and witty intervews like debating Jon Stewart and Jon Hamm and reading Twilight together. Here is another video about them debating children posted by Funny Or Die. It has classic Galifianakis and Ferrell humor, but including the kids is a nice touch for insanity.
