Alright, prepare for this big block of text. While I would love to spice this post up with a lot of awesome pictures and really cool stuff, I feel like it would detract from the overall point of this review. This is meant to be my own opinion of it, and shouldn’t really matter to you if you disagree with me. That being said, this is a really well done DLC and I have thoroughly enjoyed playing through each and every comedic moment it had to offer. From the witty and interesting Captain Scarlett to the creepy and rather strange Herbert, this DLC had be wanting more and more (at least, up until I had to start fighting more Hyperion robots. It would be nice to note at this point that while I did beat the DLC, I have yet to try and take down Master Gee, so I can’t really give you a good amount of detail concerning their drops. I can, however, give you an idea of how Hyperius is, and how much I enjoy the new tier of guns. Shall we move on to the review?

Hopefully you guys had an awesome Thanksgiving break (for those of you who had one), for the rest of you, I apologize for not being able to post last week. I was incredibly busy, but now it’s time to get back to the weekly grind and give you guys the final installment of the Borderlands 2 Character Build Guides for now, at least until they release the next awaited character (who has been hinted at by Pitchford himself.) Anyway, let’s move onto the reason why we’re all here, Maya, the siren. While I haven’t had much playtime with her, she has been one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I’ve had thus far with the characters. While I don’t feel that she’s suited to single-player play due to her ability, I feel like Maya reigns supreme in lobbies due to her ability to both lock down an opponent and revive other players from across the map with appropriate aim. For the rest of the following article, you’ll be learning a bit about Maya’s history, reading about my playstyle with her, learning a way to build her, and checking which weapons I find useful with her. Without further ado, let us begin. (more…)

Welcome to the fourth installment of the Borderlands 2 In-depth Character Guides. For those of you who have read through the others, you know the drill, for those newcomers, allow me to cover a little step-by-step. Essentially these guides are made to help those new to the game adjust to their characters and learn fun ways to build them accordingly (as well as what weapons I prefer to use with them, but seeing as they’re mostly legendary, they’re a moot point until late/end-game). Anyway, this week’s guide focuses on one of the most fun characters to play in Borderlands 2, Salvadore, the Gunzerker. While a little psychotic and rather odd, this tanky character allows the player to dual wield guns at will, allowing him to increase is damage output and granting him some really awesome passive abilities. Without further ado, let’s jump right into the fourth guide in this set. If you’re new to the format, I’ll cover some secret information about the character’s history that are embedded into the game, followed by a set of builds to use for your character, and ending with a set of weapons that I deem appropriate for your character in particular (the character in question being reviewed).  (more…)

Hello folks, and welcome to the third installment of the Borderlands 2 In-Depth Character guides. In today’s review, I’ll be covering the latest of what may be many DLC characters for Borderlands, Gaige the Mechromancer. This genius, half-cyborg, half-human girl may potentially be one of the greatest sources of DPS in the game while specced into the Anarchy tree. Compounded by her trusty sidekick pet-type ability, this character is easily one of the best single-player characters for those of you who just don’t want to risk getting into hacked lobbies or dealing with rather unsavory people over online games. In comparison to every other character (with the possible exception of Axton), Gaige can hold her own against hordes of enemies due to the fact that her ability will tank tons of damage while allowing you to dish out damage yourself. Again, like the other guides I’ll be covering the history, recommended builds, and my favorite guns to utilize with this class. Without further ado, how about we jump straight into the guide? It is time for part 2 of my Borderlands 2 in-depth character guides. This week we focus on Zero, the Assassin. With an active ability similar to Lilith’s phasewalk with a lot less power (depending on your perspective on kunais), this character focuses on darting to and fro in battle, concealing himself and throwing enemies off his trail with his decoy before landing immense amounts of damage from the passive boost to gun or melee damage when breaking stealth. In this guide I’ll do the same that I did before concerning Axton. I’ll cover the history of the character, favorite builds, recommended weaponry, and other insightful information pertaining to this character. I will make a side note that Zer0 seems to be one of the most popular online characters for some reason, and many people find themselves lacking in diversity as far as parties are concerned, which intrigues me, as I also started with him. Unfortunately, his ability just didn’t seem to impress me as much as I thought it would, so I converted to playing both Gaige and Axton for a while. I’m also currently working on a Maya, but we’ll see how long that skillset intrigues me. Anyway, on to the guide…

Welcome to the world of proxy damage dealing and the sound of a large rocket mounted turret unleashing the very definition of destruction upon your very unlucky opponents. In this week’s article, I’ll be giving an in-depth look into the Borderlands 2 characters known as Axton, the Commando. While he is very far from being the highest source of damage per second, or DPS, in the game (which honestly shouldn’t matter all that much considering just how much chaos and destruction is being flung around during a normal four man game), he more than makes up for it with his ability, the Sabre Turret. With that ability by his side, any Commando player becomes a force to be reckoned with, hailing down massive amounts of damage with either dual turrets or a single destructive double-barrel slag gun.  Within the depths of the following article you’ll find my recommended builds, favorite guns, and a little backstory on the character. Hope you enjoy! (more…)

Alrighty folks, so even though I haven’t really beaten the game yet, I’ve decided to give a ‘work in progress’ kind of review concerning the fancy new game I’m sure we’ve all been sinking our teeth into lately. While a lot of hype was generated for this title, I’ve had a lot of people asking me whether or not it would be a good idea to pick it up if they didn’t really enjoy the original. Bottom line, my answer is no. Borderlands 2 works by improving an already fun formula for those of us who enjoyed it, and while it brings a lot more upgraded stuff of the same type, it doesn’t truly redefine the mechanics, gameplay or storytelling potential of the original. The plot is definitely a lot more in-depth and detailed with tons of wacky characters, but I think if you simply didn’t enjoy the original, you won’t enjoy this one. Anyway, continue forth to read on about what’s going on in my head concerning Borderlands 2. (more…)

Alrighty, for all you good little boys and girls I have brought gifts! Embedded within the wondrous and wacky environments within Borderlands 2, there are a multitude of fancy little tidbits that you can find hidden within the most inconspicuous of places. Gearbox developers have done well in including almost every single major pop culture reference they could pack into such a great game. With character customizations detailed after comic book villains and claptrap’s homage to the double rainbow guy, there is no end to the fun in sight (unless you have the bane, in which case I feel for you). Either way, check out the awesome link below to find a variety of Easter eggs and where to find some of them.

2 Best Friends is a web series created by Machinima that features 2 hardcore gamers as they live commentary new games.  Even though anyone can get drunk and play a video game, but these guys are actually pretty witty.  There’s a combination of light racism, plot hole points, and even legitimate gameplay mechanics.  Whether the game is awful or awesome, they’ll probably be there making fun of it.  I’ve included some of my favorite videos.  They’re pretty long, but there’s certainly some creative one-liners in each.  I recommend you check out their Youtube channel and find some of your favorite games they’ve critiqued.  You’ll definitely be entertained.

Apparently the long awaited sequel to the Gearbox best-selling game of the year Borderlands will be worth the wait, according to devs. Not only will it come preloaded with new classes and a slew of infinitely more guns than its predecessor, but Borderlands 2 will also feature a ramped up A.I that will bring an air of more difficulty to those of us veterans. While everything here is merely hearsay until we see a good comparison video between the games, I think it’s safe to assume that Gearbox will deliver as they always have. I’m looking forward to having enemies swarm me as I mow them down with the latest and greatest gun I just picked up, or use the newest abilities to completely demolish them. Either way, hopefully I’ll manage to find a couple of you fans out there on the borderlands.

A great part of the video game experience is a multiplayer component.  A lot of the games I’m playing these days all have cooperative or competitive aspects that let me play with or against players all around the world or with my friends on my couch.  Here’s a list of games I’m playing and the experiences I’m having with it.

Being a video game blog along with movies and television, I’m going to try and catch up with the relative lack of posts the video game category currently has.  And today I’m going to go through the list of games that I’m buying brand spanking new [used games are a different issue to be discussed in a different time].  2012 had quite the roster of highly anticipated games, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the following 5.  Ordered based on release date.

Here it is lady and gentlemen, my first pure video game related post.  Today I’m talking about a game my friend recently let me borrow: Gearbox’s 2009 shooter RPG, Borderlands.  The format of these posts will usually be about my personal experiences with the game and what I’ll praise and critique about it. Before I begin talking about my experiences/thoughts about the game, I’ll give you a quick summary regarding some back story.

The planet of Pandora is a desolate wasteland.  The world seems to be run by bandits and the dangerous wildlife that inhabits it.  A team of treasure hunters have been sent in to discover the ultimate treasure, only known as the vault, on Pandora.  You take control of one of the four ‘classes’: a hunter who uses sniper rifles, revolvers, and a deadly bird, a siren, who specializes in smgs, and disappearing in and out of battle, a soldier, who keeps a portable turret, a combat rifle, and shotgun at his sides at all times, and the berserker, who when enraged, starts punching things with his fist.  On your way to finding the vault, you’ll need to blast your way through hordes of bandits, animals, and bosses if you want to survive.

If you’ve been reading my blog for the past couple of months, every once in a while I’ll mention that ‘we’re not a video game blog/I’m trying to get into writing about video gaming’ rants.  Well today is the announcement that I’ll be writing and posting video game related items more often and I’ve officially added it as a category.  Soon enough I’ll add it to the list of banners as well as it’s own icon on the right.  I think at this point, I’ve fully engulfed the ‘geek site’ mantra/persona as now I’m covering movies, television, and now video games. You can now expect video game morning banana oatmeals, full blown articles about games I’ve picked up on, and other gamer related culture.  Read more regarding a little background on my own video game experience.
