This is a cool compilation of pictures.  Dorkly created a neat gallery where they took famous video game families/clans and made them into Game of Thrones families with accompanying icons and words.  They’re based on neat trivia and if you have the skill/knowledge of video game universes to ‘get’ them all, then you should give yourself a good pat on the back.  I only put the ones I know below, so check out the rest of them over at Dorkly, tell me where the other ones come from!

Movies adapted into games have largely been written off, and most TV-to-game adaptations have been pretty dismal. But by taking a game and putting it in a style that you wouldn’t expect, the results can be great. You would have thought a Walking Dead game would have emulated similarly themed titles like Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead.

Television Shows That Should Be Video Games

This is a pretty cool wallpaper that features the enemies of Commander Shepherd from the Mass Effect universe.  It looks like a mass produced assembly line of Geth robots.  In this assembly, there seems to be one Geth who is a little bit more curious than the others.  Is it Legion?  We vs. I?  Totally reminds me of Will Smith’s i, Robot and Sonny.

I wanna watch that movie again.  Why doesn’t Will Smith make movies anymore?  He’s too busy making movies for his kids…

I originally thought this was some artist’s crazy rendition of a Salarian badass, but then it’s actually from a Mass Effect comic book – Mass Effect: Redemption.  This is Tazzik, one of the agents of the Shadow Broker who’s known for his crazy large size for a Salarian.  Even Krogan are surprised by his large size.  He’s incredibly badass and he seemed to have played a role in the recovery of Shepherds body.  Check out his wiki entry on the Mass Effect wiki to see what he did.

With the new DLC just under a week from launch, I figured I’d take the time to outline the basics of what we’ll be getting come next Tuesday. For those hardcore Mass Effect multiplayer fans out there, there is hope. With the new Earth DLC we should be getting a slew of new content that will cater to everyone. With a new character for each class, a few new maps, and a few new guns, this update will keep the battlefields interesting for a long time to come. I’m personally very excited for the upcoming patch, and hopefully after reading the details of this article, you will be too. The character information as well as their skill lists will be included at the end of the article. (more…)

Machinima is known for taking video games and cutting them in different ways to produce humorous and creative results.  Gamer Poop is a division of Machinima that takes the cutscenes of video games and then cuts them together for lewd and crude conversations.  In honor of Mass Effect 3 releasing more free DLC, here are some fairly hilarious videos of Shepherd being in love too much with women and steak.  Due to it’s popularity, they’ve created even more videos and they can be seen below.

It’s flip week I suppose, seeing as I covered the sequel to a game before the actual game came out. Anyway, this week’s game of the week is Mass Effect 2. Featuring an all-star cast of lovable characters, my favorite of which is currently Doctor Mordin Solus after his glorious rendition of The Major-General’s song. With a wide-array of ways to play with an even wider array of things to say, Mass Effect 2 is definitely one of the best games I’ve played to date. Check out the rest of the article to get my in-depth review of Mass Effect 2. (more…)

Alright, so admittedly I haven’t delved much into the single player campaign, and although I haven’t really gotten into the depth of this amazing series, I can at least give my current opinion on it. Mass Effect is a game similar to others like Dragon Age, in which the choices you make determine the outcome of the game. I can call it similar to Silent Hill in that there are always multiple endings depending on the path you chose during the story (such as Paragon or Renegade, which are essentially good and evil respectively). You play as Commander Shepard on the default, with the ability to change your characters looks and background with a few simple choices (or import your character directly from an ME2 file). Essentially the choices you make determine the outcome of the game and the fate of the universe etc, just like many other games of this genre. Read more to see my in-depth review of Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect has significantly changed my life when it comes to gaming.  I used to not be such a big video game guy as it took me nearly 5 years to finally get a PS3 after it was released.  Mass Effect 2 was among the first game I got.  While it was difficult to get into, not playing Mass Effect 1 and buying it used so I couldn’t control decisions from the first game,  I managed to eventually persevere through it and get all the correct DLC to get the way I wanted.  By the time Mass Effect 3 came out, I spent 30 hours gaining everyone’s loyalty and etc., I had successfully gotten a fairly perfect Paragon mode with all my crew members.  I spent another 30 hours playing through Mass Effect 3 and my Paragon Male Shepherd chose the synthesis route and I thought I was done and satisfied.

It was interesting that I never truly considered the Renegade route.  Even more astonishing that I never remotely considered a female Shepherd.  And after going through some forums I read some very interesting quotes regarding my decisions: “Anyone who has never played a Female Shepherd should be considered sexist” and “Playing through renegade is a completely different side to the Mass Effect universe”.  I’ve taken these statements into account and decided to knock out two birds with one stone.  So here is my journey as Renegade FemShep.

Oh my goodness, I love it when movies and videogames collide in pop culture.  And Dorkly is usually the best at doing this sort of thing.  What we have here is an interpretation  of famous movie quotes as though they were given in a Mass Effect dialogue option.  Those who know Mass Effect won’t need an explanation, but for the uninitiated but still interested, the Mass Effect dialogue tree is an interactive conversation ploy that directs how you want your person to be played throughout the game.  During points of most conversations, a tree comes up how you want to respond.  You may respond neutrally, or in most cases you have a paragon/renegade option where if you choose the blue path, you’re a nice guy who plays the hero card or if you choose the red option, you’re a liscenesed bad ass.  Now take a look at the Han Solo example above.  In response to Leia saying ‘I love you’, the Mass Effect dialogue tree comes up and you have a series of choices.  Obviously you know the red option is the real dialogue and exemplifies that Han Solo is a badass.  Get it?  Got it?  Good.  Here are 4 more of my favorites below.  Be sure to check out the other 8 at Dorkly here.

This is the video of an alternative fan made trailer of Mass Effect 3 that incorporates more in-game graphics than the movie production values of the original trailer.  This trailer gives you all the goosebumps you want.

From what I expect to be a move from EA after they received the worst Video Game Company award, they used their most recently popular game Mass Effect 3 to try and win back the hearts of fans with free DLC.  There’s plenty of content to be had here with a plethora of new characters and maps.  I personally can’t wait till I’m able to play with these characters on these new maps, as the multiplayer was beginning to get a little dull and repetitive for me.

For all of you Mass Effect fans it is time to rejoice! Despite being an idea created by deviantart user lupodirosso, this idea has gained some backing through internet forums and news aggregation sites alike, including Kotaku and Reddit. Though we don’t know how long it will take before people start sporting Wrex or Garrus inspired hoodies, the fact that someone has taken time out of their busy (or not so busy) day to craft these for us means that at least someone, somewhere will definitely want to be paying for something along these lines. Kotaku has already stated that similar designs have been released by BioWare, meaning that these designs could come into production whenever they so choose to hire this man. For now, however, I know that I’ll be sleeping soundly, dreaming of a collection including the very chic and stylish ME hoodies. BioWare TAKE MY MONEY!

Being a video game blog along with movies and television, I’m going to try and catch up with the relative lack of posts the video game category currently has.  And today I’m going to go through the list of games that I’m buying brand spanking new [used games are a different issue to be discussed in a different time].  2012 had quite the roster of highly anticipated games, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the following 5.  Ordered based on release date.
