I feel bad because it seems as though all the talk around Bane is about comparisons, despite him being extremely original on his own. His comparison to Heath Ledger’s Joker, his comparison to the muscle headed behemoth in Batman Forever, and now this comparison of his pre-sound edited and post-sound edited voice in the Dark Knight Rises. The video plays the side by side same scene, both taken out of a theater it seems which results in the low quality, and shows what Bane sounded like with Nolan’s intended Bane voice and then the following post-sound mixing. I had a hard enough time hearing everything Tom Hardy said in that mask, and when I watched this video, I was even more irritated with the muffling. I hear in the DVD/BluRay release, Nolan will include both of the mixes. Will I watch the original? Probably, but with the aide of subtitles to help me catch on to things that I may have missed as well. Kudos to those who’ll watch the original mix WITHOUT subtitles. May God have mercy on your soul.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis Debate Children
Posted in Movies, tagged campaign, debate, funny, will ferrell, Zach Galifianakis on August 24, 2012| Leave a Comment »
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis went wild to campaign for their new movie The Campaign. They did a number of viral videos and witty intervews like debating Jon Stewart and Jon Hamm and reading Twilight together. Here is another video about them debating children posted by Funny Or Die. It has classic Galifianakis and Ferrell humor, but including the kids is a nice touch for insanity.
Morning Link: Fearless Actresses Not Afraid of Tough Roles

Unreality did a cool article about several actresses who have taken extremely tough roles. Charlize Theron’s role in Monster was awesome, Monica Belucci has done a fair number of racy roles, but my favorite inclusion was giving Chlor Moretz a nod for her potential. I think she’s absolutely gorgeous [she’s only 15, so I need to tread lightly]. She’s also incredibly talented for her roles in Kick-Ass and Let Me In. She’s got a crazy awesome career ahead of her and I look forward to following it.
Minesweeper: The Movie

This is a cool College Humor video that’s been around for a good amount of time, [I remember showing this to some friends in High School and I’ve been gone from High School for a LONG time]. It parodies serious action movies by applying the idea to the computer game Minesweeper. Hilarious enough, there are some classic movie cliches as well as some absurdist dialogue. They put some Sin City spin on it [which I think is misplaced, but whatever].
On another note, I actually learned how to play Minesweeper from this video. But I still suck. I’d rather play Minecraft.

I’m so ashamed that I’ve only seen about a quarter of the movies on this list. The ones I did see I felt great about knowing. I feel as a cinemaphile/fashionista, I’m obligated to do such a thing. In terms of stylish, most of the people in these movies are wearing dope suits and have chiseled jaws. I don’t exactly have a chiseled jaw, but I appreciate how good these dudes look. Maybe I’ll look as suave as these dudes one day.
Prequels, Sequels, and Remakes oh my!

The shortage of original ideas in Hollywood is not a new issue. Hollywood blockbusters have long followed standard plotlines proven to generate excitement and revenue. Don’t get me wrong, indie movies and indie theaters will always reside in the warm, enriching, nacho supreme depths of my movie heart. But that does not mean that I am satisfied with the billions of dollars in resources Hollywood is wasting on leftover broccoli casserole lathered in recycled ideas and characters. I fell in love with movies because they have capacity to snap my semi-charmed life in half. Movies take you somewhere you can never go, make you someone you will never be. They touch emotions, remind you how you want to live your life, and give you a fresh perspective. My favorite movies are the ones that stick with you long after the bright sun tries to burn them out the second you walk out of the movie theater. Enough rambling, the following are some of the movies released this year that were either prequels, sequels, or remakes. (more…)
Morning Link: Movie Plots Made Possible by Others Sucking at Their Job

Cracked compiled another article from movies. This one labels several jobs from people in movies whose sloth or ineptitude allowed entire movies to transpire. Take Tommy Lee Jones from above who plays a cop from No Country For Old Men. Because of his slow methodology and sitting on the couch drinking milk, he allowed the main characters to go on an entire spiel when it could’ve been averted. Check out the very cool article below.

We’re no stranger to featuring funny Batman parodies. I don’t particularly think this one is as funny as the Badman series College Humor puts out, but it’s pretty decent. The action sequences are surprisingly smooth and the club scene is very impressive for amateur video production. I don’t think the Batman is as funny as he could’ve been, but with so many of these Batman parodies running around, this one shines pretty well.
Mean Disney Girls

This is a cool video mashing up Disney characters with Tina Fey’s awesome teenage movie Mean Girls. We’ve featured Disney mash ups before, like The Dark Knight Rises, Sin City, and Game of Thrones, but this one is purely Disney Princesses, which is really neat. I really liked Mean Girls and you might even think Lindsay Lohan had a career ahead of her, but no. She squandered it away on being crazy. It’s okay Lindsay, Tina Fey and Amanda Seyfried are doing more than enough well to make up for your faults.
The Dark Knight Villain Face Mash
Posted in Character Profiles, Movies, tagged bane, Batman, Dark Knight, Johnny Depp, Joker, ras al ghul, scarecrow, talia on August 20, 2012| Leave a Comment »
We’ve featured a couple of face mashes here like Johnny Depp about the characters he’s played. But this is a different kind of face mash up. Queue the main villains of the Dark Knight Trilogy. Scarecrow, Joker, and Bane. This is a really neat picture who I wish I could credit the artist, but I’ve tried researching and came up empty handed. Regardless, this is a cool idea that I totally think should be applied to other movies. But now that I think of it, I can’t seem to think about any trilogy based movies with multiple different bad guys. Maybe Star Wars having Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and the Emperor? That’d be kinda cool with the same breather mask style as pictured above…A project to be put into my ideas binder. See the Johnny Depp pictured we’ve featured before below. My only question is that why isn’t Ras Al Ghul’s face as Scarecrow…well maybe they’re only using villains for ‘face’ value. Ha. I’m hilarious.

There’s a lot of people giving heat to the Dark Knight Rises for the plot holes. Uproxx had compiled most if not all of the alleged plot holes and sarcastically answered them back with reasonable explanation. How did Bruce Wayne get back into Gotham? How did Scarecrow become the judge if the people chose everything? Check out the sarcastic answers [or maybe even just see what all the plot holes are] at the link.
Hope. It’s the Only Thing Stronger than Fear – Hunger Games Movie Review

I was able to view an early version of the Hunger Games DVD and was eager to watch it after reading Hunger Games so recently. While I enjoyed the fast paced novel and seeing how well the casting fit, there were a couple of things I didn’t agree with. It certainly wasn’t because the producers didn’t do a good job, but rather the idea of book expectations will never be matched with a movie. I was happy to see the Utopia of Panem be rendered in real life.
Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is a girl living is a dystopia where she constantly fights for her family’s survival. The government has a political game created to keep its citizens in line where it forces the nation’s citizens to get in a ring and kill each other. When Katniss gets involved, she learns she has to fight for her survival. Major book and movie spoilers ahead!
Morning Link: Why We Needed the Dark Knight Rises
Posted in Articles, Movies, tagged bane, Batman, Christopher Nolan, Dark Knight Rises, Joker, tim burton on August 15, 2012| Leave a Comment »
Hitfix did a really cool article before the Dark Knight Rises was released pointing out all the exciting moments that are to come from the movie. It’s interesting to go back to that article and point out all the questions they had: What role is Joseph Gordon Levitt and Marion Collitard REALLY playing? Why does everyone have a Tumbler? How will Anne Hathaway redefine Catwoman? We know know all the answers to these questions and debunking and confirming some of the suspicions were fun.

If you find yourself scratching your head as to why a movie is acting a certain way or wondering how a certain plot hole came to exist, then this article on Cracked is the one for you. For example, in Empire Strikes Back, how did Luke Skywalker jump so high to get out of the Carbonite freezing? Sure Yoda trained him, but never to jump that high. This article brings out plot holes like these that are explained in movie scripts that never made it into the movie. While they’re plot filling and make many beloved movies more sensical, not all of them should’ve been done…You’ll have to read on to find out what I’m talking about…
How to Get Girls According to Movies

I stumbled upon this hilarious image about how movie heroes get their girls. It starts off a little satirical, but by the end, it gets absurd and disgusting. Haha, Spider Man not being himself rings true, but by the time you get to Buffalo Bill, it’s pretty dark. I honestly only recognize 14/15, the one not being the bottom left. Someone please remind me what movie that’s from and what the connection to geting women is.
Personally, my method is playing the, ‘I’m an editor-in-chief of a popular internet blog’. It does not work. I am still single.

Another excellent Cracked photoplasty taking the names of movies very literally and photoshopping their covers or key scenes. Thinking of names like: There Will Be Blood, Road House, or even the very hilarious Rain Man as pictured above can definitely produce some very witty results. And don’t get me started on how worse things get when you start getting sexual puns involved. Die Hard, That Thing You Do. Oh boy. Slightly NSFW, so keep your heads above water ladies and gents.
Morning Banana Oatmeal: Top 10 Re-Cut Trailers

This is a really cool link to Tecca who have compiled 10 awesome recut trailers to movies. We’re not just talking about flipping a few words around or even a simple mash up here or there, these re-cuts completely change the genre. Take for example, the Incredibles trailer I posted above, this trailer highlights the death of Dash and the effect it has had on the family. The trailer is absolutely chilling and plays a horror movie so well that I would totally watch that movie. “Do you know where he is?”
Seriously, check out that trailer and the rest of them at Tecca. Don’t believe me? The first one is turning the Shining into a family film. Crazy right?

Hitfix came up with this awesome list about 20 movies we’ve been waiting on. Whether they be sequels of old movies or ones that the director has been always interested in making, it’s all here. Some of them are even planned and in production as you read this! I’m already excited for the Arrested Development movie! Apparently the first episode title of Arrested Development has been leaked. It’s nothing spectacular being titled: Arrested Development: Michael, but it proves it’s in production! I can’t get excited enough for such a thing. Check out this movie and the rest of the stuff below by clicking the link.

The Dark Knight Prestige

How do you make a Christopher Nolan movie trailer better? By mashing it up with another Christopher Nolan trailer. We’ve already shown you how awesome Nolan trailers can be, but this one is different because it mashes up another one of his movies, The Prestige in it. I like how the editor made each one of Nolan’s movies a part of the three aspects of a magic trick: the pledge, turn, and prestige. Maybe I’m not looking deep enough because I don’t believe that there is any other significant other than 1, 2, and 3, but I know there are some rather radical internet theories out there. By the way, if you haven’t already seen the Prestige, do yourself a favor and watch it! It’s absolutely amazing and totally on par with his other movies. All I need to see now is an Insomnia/Memento mashup and I just might be able to die a happy man.
Mass Effect Movie?!

Not sure how to feel about this, folks. News has it that Legendary Pictures has taken the rights to make a Mass Effect movie. While I haven’t seen anything concrete, we all know the curse about video games being turned into movies. I’m hoping they won’t just butcher everything I know and love (Tali, stay safe!). While normally I’d be somewhat more enthusiastic about the concept, I just feel that the need to create a movie based on a game that more or less plays out like a movie is overkill. We get the cinema experience in every rendered cutscene. I guess I could wait before deeming it a total flop though. We’ll have to see how it goes.
