Arrow vs. Flash

Sometime in the last couple of weeks, I got to see The Flash and Green Arrow team up.  There was playful banter, crossing of super hero teams, and clashes in physical and mental approaches to situations.    In the big crossover event between CWs The Flash and Arrow, I got to see in live action what I’ve only seen in animated movies and comic books for DC characters.  Marvel has been dominant with their franchise so far.  They were first to get a team of heroes all on one screen to fight a larger threat and it was freaking awesome.

And I’m saying that as a DC fan.  Since 2008, Marvel Studios has hammered down their connected universe and are even backed with Marvel movies from Fox and Sony.  Even though not all of these movies are true cinematic gems, I still watched them, I probably enjoyed them, and then they all made lots of money.

So where’s DC in all of this?  2008 was the latest highpoint in the DC cinematic universe with the release of The Dark Knight.  We got Green Lantern, The Dark Knight Rises, and Man of Steel, but let’s be honest, no one holds a close enough candle to say Avengers, Captain America 2, and more recently Guardians of the Galaxy.  And comparitively, Marvel and the affiliated studios have been releasing up to three movies a year vs. Warner Bros./DC’s 1.

So all in all the cinematic candle won’t come close until 2016 when DC finally kicks off its connected cinematic universe with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  And they still might not come close.  But action stews further away from the silver screen.  But what about the smaller screen candle?

DC has taken to television before.  Besides animated favorites like Justice League, Teen Titans, and Young Justice, shows like Smallville, The Flash (1990), and Birds of Prey were somewhat popular.  But now in this age of where superhero and comic book based media isn’t lame anymore, DC has really let their shows fly and their audiences with them.

It’s not an immediate surprise that the Simpsons paves the way for a lot of great pop culture moments.  I stumbled upon this obscure Simpsons clip where Homer stumbles upon the grave of Walt Whitman and begins to start kicking and yelling at it.  Now I’ve barely seen a complete episode of the Simpsons, so I have no idea what the context of this clip is.  But what I did make a connection with is the top rated Youtube comments.  Surprisingly this is a Breaking Bad related clip, so hit the more button to explain/discuss the hilarity of this clip with many Breaking Bad SPOILERS.

LOL, Bruce Wayne might have pulled a dick move here, but he’s pretty right when it comes to telling Lucius Fox off like this.  Essentially what’s happening is that Bruce Wayne is talking about how Lucius destroyed a honing device using cell phones that could’ve been used to find any person based on their voice.  Seeing as how Bane is heard over intercoms and with plenty of sound bites from his football field gig, they possibly could’ve found Bane when they had so much trouble.  Of course, Bruce is gonna be an ass about it.  And it’s hilarious.

Not from actual set, duh

From Uproxx

What do they tell us? They tell us that Portia de Rossi and David Cross — who play husband and wife, Lindsay and Tobias Funke — are at the airport, collecting their luggage, and that Michael Bluth is picking them up. Also, that Tobias looks like he’s doing an E.T. impression and Lindsay is still totally bangin’ in the high heels and jeans. Or maybe David Cross and Portia de Rossi are simply flying in from somewhere, and Jason Bateman is picking them up so they can continue to discuss how they’re in cahoots with Nikki Finke and messing with all of America by making up this entire movie.

Key words are Portia de Rossi is still banging, even at age 39.  Anyone else pumped for Arrested Development?  I’ve recently begun watching it again.

Fall TV is upon us and it nothing is more exciting than scheduling days of the week with my favorite tv shows to look forward to.  The glorious return of some favorites such as Parks and Recreation, Happy Endings, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are sure to make the weeks better and then Sunday night is filled with madness as well.  Not football madness, but the 9:00 and 10:00 spot will be heavily competed for when it comes to Dexter, The Walking Dead, and Boardwalk Empire.  How do you guys cope with so much television?  Don’t you dare say “I don’t watch it”, because that’s inexcusable.  Just kidding, but anywho, I’ve compiled the trailers and expectations of some of my favorite shows, so check ’em out below!  The spoilers in the drama season are likely to be huge, so tread lightly!

Family Guy is definitely one of the few [or maybe too many for an adult] cartoon shows I actually watch.  It’s pretty witty, though I think it gets a little bit too high on itself.  It gets away with blatant racism [or does it?] and it’s pretty nice to actually laugh at such horrible things when no one else is in the room haha.  It also had a lot of staying power.  Can we say that this is our generation’s Simpsons?  I was never truly part of that demographic, but I think Family Guy is definitely for the younger crowd. This awesome article honors some of the favorite supporting characters.  Above is Bruce from Family Guy and I totally read that in his voice.  There is no Mayor West or Giant Chicken, but the list is pretty solid none-the-less.

I love television.  But I sometimes don’t realize not everyone is as fortunate as I am to have access to all the television.  Happy Endings, Jon Stewart, Louis CK, HBO, and more is technically all American Television.  Morning Glow has compiled a list of 20 gifs that encompass the best of American TV well.  Be sure to check out the list and if you like even half of the shows on the list, you should check out the rest because they’lll likely fit your taste as well.

We’re at the point where all the networks start hyping up their fall line ups.  Fox was one of the first major ones, showing what shows they were airing and when.  The biggest shows to be receiving hype are the Mindy Project, Glee, The X Factor, Animation Domination Sunday, and New Girl.  Collider has an article listing all of the shows and their corresponding line ups.  The trailers are out, and I’ll eventually watch them and see which ones I’ll bother keeping up with.  I’ll let you know when I get  there.  And they also say something about Kevin Bacon’s new show…So yes, I’ll definitely be watching that.

You don’t need me to explain what this image is. But if it’s too long and didn’t feel like reading, it essentially summarizes how all television shows act. This algorithm applies to both comedies and dramas and maybe even reality shows [eh maybe not, I was tired of Jersey Shore since season 1]. It’s true that most episodes hit their stride in season 3 and 4 because the writers are truly comfortable with their characters. Soon enough they become cash cows to live long enough hit the zombie years. Enough of my garbage, scroll back up and read the image by cracked again. Be sure to visit Cracked.com or Viruscomix.com to support the wit.

Here’s your ’90s cartoon dreams crushed’ image of the day.  Taken as one of the popular rage comics memes, the collective internet has essentially put the idea that Marge Simpson and Carl Carlson have essentially done the dirty deed and out popped Gerald Johanssen.  It isn’t clear how he ended up a Johanssen or in a seemingly New York suburb so far from Springfield, but I’m sure the fan fiction is along the lines of: Marge and Carl met up and had an illegitimate child and then selling it for money, or something like that.  Regardless, the image is almost too uncanny…That hair is simply far too distinct to ignore where it genetically and rightfully comes from.

Spring Television for the most part is coming to a close. Most of the shows have hit their finales, save for a couple of the heavy dramas. We’ve recently been bombarded with news about shows coming back, being cancelled, and some new ones. I personally haven’t sampled many of the new clips that preview the fall shows, but I’m sure some are bound to be promising. I’ve divided this awards ceremony by two pages: one for comedies and the other for dramas. There’s a lot of bias here and there and my opinion is erratic, but I like to think there is some truth to my choices. And I may or may not of come up with custom titles simply so I could put all of the shows I watched [and didn’t watch] this wonderful spring season.

We love everything Game of Thrones related here on Bananafeed, so anytime another source of pop culture clashes with Game of Thrones, of course it will be posted.  Here we have another original rendition of the Simpsons opening that follows [but not too closely to avoid copyright clearly] the HBO series opening.

Collegehumor has managed to quantify today’s most popular basic cable networks and their likely family member that relates who they are. It’s fairly clever, I would’ve liked to see HBO as a badass older brother or Showtime as your way too slutty cousin. I’ve compiled some of my favorites and be sure to check out the rest of them here.

Warming Glow has picked up on the 25 most watched television shows out there and when I took a look at the list, I nearly cried.  America as a whole is watching really sh!tty television.  American Idol, NCIS, Rob?!  And if you include cable, there are things like WWE, Pawn Stars and Spongebob.  It’s almost upsetting.  I personally don’t watch any of these shows, yet I watch a TON of television.  It doesn’t even make sense with how much television I watch and consider ‘great television’ doesn’t even make this list.

Charming/adorable, they’re all pretty much the same word and they sum up the outlook of every character on this list.  By using the word ‘infectiously charming’ I mean that they’re actions/philosophy in life can only bring smiles on our faces, regardless of how naive or misguided they may be.  On this list, you’ll find 5 characters who represent the pinnacle of adorableness.

As many of you know, I’ve recently taken Terra Nova off of my TV queue this fall.  So to fill its shoes, I’ve been heavily recommended that FX’s American Horror Story is a juicy and horrifying tale of a family in a cursed house.  The final push to start this series is when the latest Entertainment Weekly arrived when its two major characters and a man in a rubber suit were on the cover.  So after watching the first episode, I literally had my hand over my face the entire fifty minutes and nearly successfully shat my pants .  The show is graphic, tense, and even highly sexual, something that my TV queue is lacking [Dexter can only have so much blood, gore, and sex].  And I haven’t regretted starting it ever since.

It is difficult to write this because Terra Nova showed so much promise.  And by so much promise, I meant there’s f*cking dinosaurs in it.  So I’ve finally caught up with Terra Nova this week, and instead of doing another Fall TV check up, I decided to write a warning obituary for a specific series.  In a season where TV can easily take over your life if you’re ambitious enough, you have to filter what you watch or instead you’ll also be watching your grades plummet.  So after giving Terra Nova a chance, I’ve become bored with it’s clunky dialogue, uninteresting side plots, and its general lack of DINOSAURS.
