It’s winter break from my University which means I’m home and have nothing to do. So naturally I watch as much television as can be permitted. My long list of television is ever expanding and I spend more than a normal amount of time trying to shorten it, but if often gets longer and longer. This winter break is a time for shortening the list considerably before I get responsibilities again [ugh, School]. So here’s my list of TV to watch, I often update what I’m watching in my Twitter, so be sure to follow it if you wanna chime in some suggestions as I live tweet these sum-bitches.
Here they are below in no particular order
High Priority Targets
Luther
To be watched: Series 2 & 3
Out of love for Stringer Bell and BBC television in general, my roommate and I took a shot at Luther. Little did we know, we would be getting ourselves in a gruesome and blowing television show that leaves you breathless after each episode. Idris Elba kills it as a violent and brilliant detective who tracks down the most disgusting [and I mean disgusting] criminals in London.
Boardwalk Empire
To be watched: The last half of the latest season
As every season of Boardwalk Empire, I fall off pretty hard mid season and then I binge watch it to realize that it’s consistently one of the better written and better acted shows on air. It’s only natural that I finish up some great stories that feature more of Chalky and Richard than the previous seasons.
Homeland
To be watched: The last half of the latest season
The first half of the season was pretty difficult to watch, considering how much loathing occurred with anything that included Dana in it. I’ve heard that it turns around to be more Homeland-y as the season ended, but that remains to be seen until I catch up.
Chuck
To be watched: Seasons 2-3 [I’ve heard it falls off after this, so I’m cutting myself out early to save time]
I’ve been recommended this several times, especially considering the crush I have on Yvonne Strahovski from Dexter and Mass Effect. It’s pretty ridiculous how many times the show finds reasons to put Yvonne in a ridiculous costume and forces her to fight, but that’s like 80% of the reason I watch the show. 10% is because of Firefly’s Adam Baldwin and the other 10% is for the Nerd Herd.
The League
To be watched: Season 5
I binged the season 1-4 of this in the manner of a few weeks and found that The League is like The Gang from Always Sunny for all the best reasons. A depraved group of individuals are willing to do anything and everything to get their way. A bit more graphic than Always Sunny and featuring incredibly beautiful women all the time [Brooklyn Decker, Alison Williams, and more], I grew very attached to the League, the stories are just different enough to thoroughly enjoy the series.
Utopia
To be watched: Episodes 3-6 of Series 1
BBC has so much credit in my opinion I’m willing to give anything a shot. Arthousey, stylistic, and hypnotic Utopia has definitely caught my attention after my roommate recommended it to me. And it includes a graphic novel. Duh I’m watching.
Orphan Black
To Be watched: The last two episodes
I’ve definitely fallen for Tatiana Maslany and the clone club. The episode of Parks and Recreation that featured her was the final push I needed to finally binge this show. Science fiction and an incredible performance(s) from Maslany made this incredible series to watch, with great anticipation for me to finish the season.
The Americans
To be watched: The last 3 episodes of Season 1
As spring television comes closer, I’ve realized I haven’t finished the first season of the Americans. I trust FX with just about anything and everything, and it’s a shame that I just never followed up on finishing this series. I plan to fix that.
Arrow
To be watched: Whole series
I’m a huge DC fanboy, so it’s pretty much a wonder as to why I haven’t decided to watch this show. The final push for me included Solomon Grundy being rumored to be a villain and the inclusion of Barry Allen as the Flash. I’m really pushing for DC to be making a more prominent mark on general audiences compared to Marvels successful campaign.
Lost Girl
To be watched: The whole series
I tried to watch it before, but time got ahead of me and I fell behind. That being said, I have a weird thing for Ksenia Solo, so that’s like 90% of why I’m planning to watch it.
American Horror Story
To be watched: The second half of season 2 and season 3
After getting completely grossed out from the second half of the second seasons, I kind of locked AHS from my mind. But truth be told, AHS is incredibly interesting given that it reboots it’s series nearly every season with oddly similar casting, but completely different material. I’ve heard good things from the third season, so I’ll try my best to catching up with season 2 and then make my mark onto season 3.
Arrested Development
To be watched: The last half of the latest season
Yikes this was released about a year ago and I called myself an Arrested Development fan? I guess it’s better late than never. I’ve watched the first half of the newest Netflix season and generally enjoyed it, despite a lot of controversy of that it wasn’t necessarily good. The humor is still good and packed with references from previous episodes and little hints that make the jumbled timeline good fun to piece together. Plus Portia De Rossi slayed me when she cut her hair, she is forever gorgeous.
Masters of Sex
To be watched: the second half of the first season
When our apartment fell behind with Masters of Sex, I couldn’t find myself compelled to really revigorate watching it after half a season of steamy sex and women’s progress. I’ve heard it amps up after halfway through the season, so I’m more than willing to give it a shot. In all honesty, I’m more than willing to give anything with Lizzy Caplan another shot.
To Be Watched Still…
Black Mirror
I’ve heard that this show is seriously fucked up. So fucked up that I must watch it. Apparently it’s like a very dramatic, graphic, and screwed up Twilight Zone featuring twisted stories with unbelievable twists. Can’t wait to clear up my queue to finish this series.
The Bitch in Apartment 23
To Be watched: The Whole Series
Krysten Ritter is absolutely adorable and I’ve heard that this series was one of those shows that was cancelled too soon, [RIP Happy Endings, forever too soon]. I’ll watch it to join the cult fanbase and cry that it was too soon every time it is brought up.
Battlestar Galactica
To Be watched: The Whole Series
Science fiction, sexy woman in red dress, cult following. All three warrant me to watch it.
30 Rock
To Be watched: The Whole Series
I’m a big NBC fan in it’s prime day: [Parks and Rec, Community, The Office], and this show was often tagged along with those shows and it was a shame that I never really latched on. Now’s my chance to change that…
Mad Men
To Be watched: The Whole Series
Ugh, this show has been on the back burner for an eternity…will I ever really get into it? Eventually…
Louie
To be watched: The latest season
Louie is so biting and gut wrenching it came off my casual watch list out of respect for the material. When more things clear up, I’ll get back into finishing the latest season that I haven’t seen.
Twin Peaks
To Be watched: The Whole Series
I have heard nothing about this show except that it was really good. So it’s in my queue, to be dug up another day.
Six Feet Under
To be watched: the whole series
My roommate and I truly tried to give this show a shot, but it just never really clicked with us. That being said, the fact that it has one of the greatest series finales of all time, keeps me interested enough to keep this on a back burner until a really slow time period.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
To Be watched: The Whole Series
Because all things Joss Whedon are sacred, no matter how dated.
