Sunday Sketch: Cameron

This is my second shot at a someone from my Black Circus Series, Cameron.  She’s had a wardrobe change as well as a hair cut.  Drawing women [or regular humans for that manner] is not my forte.  I’ve had much better luck at werewolves and creepy clowns. Be sure to visit my deviant art page for more!  Also see the original Cameron below.

Weekend Funnies: 8.18.2012

If there’s anything Weekend Funnies have taught me, is that not everyone has the same sense of humor.  But the internet is a generally a collection of everyone and the sheer compilation of the wit and humor that each individual contributes essentially represents the most broadest and generalist appeals to mankind.  So when I choose the 24 images for each Weekend Funny, I know the reason I think it’s funny will be at least funny to some percentage of the world.  And even if the it’s the smallest 1%, 1% of 7 billion is still 700 million.  So I apologize if you’re offended, disgusted, or upset.  Truth be told, if you can’t handle these 24 images, you likely shouldn’t be on the internet anyways.  So stop worrying about racism, sexism, and other means of being upset.  Just keep scrolling, and remember: no one’s looking, it’s okay to smile at something someone would frown upon.

10 Popular Gaming Memes

Ever heard the phrase, ‘Do a Barrel Roll’ or ‘Finish Him’?  If you’re not familiar with game culture and are interested, than this is the video for you.  What we have here is a surprisingly information-filled story about the history of gaming memes.  Included, you’ll hear “All Your Base Belong to Us”, “Fail”, etc.  It’s surprising how Fail came from gaming culture when everyone, including non-gaming people, now incorporate this into every day life.  Check out the video above.

Many gamers should rejoice! According to this article, Half Life 3, the much awaited sequel and possibly ending to the Half Life series, will be announced during Gamescom. I’m a little skeptical as to this notification, however, and will take it with a grain of salt. Multiple Valve employees have already stated via twitter that there won’t be any games shown this year, but who knows with them? I have included a secondary article that explains the debunking behind the myth, and is more than likely correct. On the off chance that it is spoiled this year ’round, I will be incredibly delighted. Though I myself am not a fan of the Half Life series, I do know the amount of fandom and size of its community. Something like this also means that Valve (or just Gabe) knows how to count to three (I joke.). Hopefully it’ll be as good as the community wants, and won’t end up like another Duke Nukem. Hopefully…

Speculation: Debunking Speculation

It doesn’t take long for me to finish Catching Fire, Suzanne Collins’s second book in her Hunger Games Trilogy.  After the face paced finish of the first book, I was hungry for more Hunger Games [I bet THAT hasn’t been used before].  And with only 50 pages in, I got exactly what I was looking for.  Catching Fire forgoes a lot of the character development and setting up of Panem and dives deeper into its infrastructure and functionality.  It was overall neat as I was wondering how Katniss would be involved in all this, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed.

Although it seemed rushed and devoid of any of the vivid descriptions that made the first one more interesting and other books overall more colorful [George R.R. Martin could’ve spent an entire chapter of the Hunger Games describing a room vs. the quick plot advances in Collins’s style], I think Catching Fire was an overall better book plot wise and kept me even more glued to the pages than the first book.  And that’s definitely saying something. Major books spoilers below!

Tressugar compiled an interesting list with actors who have gone full frontal.  This isn’t what we usually cover, but Jason Segal made this list and I absolutely love him after his stunt he pulled on Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  It’s not that I like man junk, but it’s an overall interesting list to see brave actors who have allowed millions of people to see them.  Literally millions of people.  No way I’d do that kind of thing.  Semi-NSFW material ahead.

Actors Who Have Gone Full Frontal

Now this is a cool video, combine two opposite universes: Game of Thrones and Star Wars.  Combine the sword fights with lightsabers.  Here we have the infamous fight between Jaime Lannister and Ned Stark.  Add the awesome soundtrack from Star Wars and place the lightsaber over the swords and you have a Jedi fight.  It’s a pity they don’t do flips and stuff, but hey that’s no big deal.  Amazing what video production programs can do these days.

I, Geth

This is a pretty cool wallpaper that features the enemies of Commander Shepherd from the Mass Effect universe.  It looks like a mass produced assembly line of Geth robots.  In this assembly, there seems to be one Geth who is a little bit more curious than the others.  Is it Legion?  We vs. I?  Totally reminds me of Will Smith’s i, Robot and Sonny.

I wanna watch that movie again.  Why doesn’t Will Smith make movies anymore?  He’s too busy making movies for his kids…

Alright, while normally the Thursday article would be filled with gaming knowledge to be bestowed upon you in the form of reviews and other fancy articles, I decided that this week would be dedicated to Phantasy Star Online II. I’m making this very special exception in light of the fact that the original Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 and 2 were my most played and favorite games of all time. I’ll just take the time to put up a preview from what I’ve been able to play using an English codex on the Japanese version. I will not give links just in case that stuff isn’t allowed and I break some of the rules…but rest assured the wait will be worth it. Continue Reading »

There’s a lot of people giving heat to the Dark Knight Rises for the plot holes.  Uproxx had compiled most if not all of the alleged plot holes and sarcastically answered them back with reasonable explanation.  How did Bruce Wayne get back into Gotham? How did Scarecrow become the judge if the people chose everything?  Check out the sarcastic answers [or maybe even just see what all the plot holes are] at the link.

All the Dark Knight Rises Plot Holes

I’m not quite sure what to make of this, but it could be the next thing in warfare for all I know. With an interest in robotics, I just really wanted to share this article concerning the Kuratas gun-wielding robot. It definitely reminds me of something straight out of Ghost in the Shell, and piques my curiosity. Where exactly does this take us? What other uses could a gun-toting robot have besides military application? Well, the answer to the latter is probably in the video above. It’s a really cool child’s play toy, like a grown up power wheels. That truth is that I don’t really care what it could be used for because this thing is really freakin’ cool. Check it out in the link below, and let me know how you feel about our new robot overlords!

Avengers as Pokemon

Talented artist FerioWind combined two favorite pop culture worlds: Marvel and Pokemon.  In each of these pictures, Avengers major players have been paired with fitting Pokemon.  Thor and his electrics, Loki and his dark types, etc. etc. I particularly like the irony of Hulk’s Pokemon being the cuddliest.  I suppose it calms him.  I am a generation 1 + 2 man, so some of these don’t register with me, but combining Hawkeye and Pidgeot was a good call.  Below I’ve compiled all their individual profiles with the addition of Agent Phil and others!

I was able to view an early version of the Hunger Games DVD and was eager to watch it after reading Hunger Games so recently.  While I enjoyed the fast paced novel and seeing how well the casting fit, there were a couple of things I didn’t agree with.  It certainly wasn’t because the producers didn’t do a good job, but rather the idea of book expectations will never be matched with a movie.  I was happy to see the Utopia of Panem be rendered in real life.

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is a girl living is a dystopia where she constantly fights for her family’s survival.  The government has a political game created to keep its citizens in line where it forces the nation’s citizens to get in a ring and kill each other.  When Katniss gets involved, she learns she has to fight for her survival.  Major book and movie spoilers ahead!

Hitfix did a really cool article before the Dark Knight Rises was released pointing out all the exciting moments that are to come from the movie.  It’s interesting to go back to that article and point out all the questions they had: What role is Joseph Gordon Levitt and Marion Collitard REALLY playing?  Why does everyone have a Tumbler? How will Anne Hathaway redefine Catwoman?  We know know all the answers to these questions and debunking and confirming some of the suspicions were fun.

Why We Needed the Dark Knight Rises

When I stumble on one blooper reel, I usually stumble on a whole mess of them.  Here we have NBC’s Parks and Recreation blooper reel from season 2 and 3.  They are just as hilarious as you’d imagine with Nick Offerman leading the team on making others break character.  What you’ll be surprised with is how fierce Rob Lowe is when he screams a string of obscenities to get back into character.  And listening to the usually innocent looking Amy Poehler say the words blow job a couple of times will shatter your thoughts of innocent Leslie Knope.  Regardless, I love Amy Poehler and I think her laughter is like the sun shining on my head.  Check out season 3 below.

Superstar artist Andrea Tamme drew some amazing concept looking Portal art featuring a sensual moment between Chell and Glados.  It’s a neat photo, having it set in debris which I can only imagine is Aperture Science.  I wonder what they’re talking about.  I’m assuming this is pleasant conversation, so the subjects of lying cake, obesity, and loveless parents aren’t on the table.  Maybe they’re talking about that time when Chell turned Glados into a potato.  Surely Glados has a sense of humor…well maybe not when she’s the victim.

Regardless, check out this photo and many other photos at Andrea Tamme’s deviant art page!

There’s a very specific reason I chose this image of Jennifer Lawrence, read below to find out

About a month ago, I was moaning and groaning about how upgrading this blog from Banana Feed to Banana Scoop reset our indexing and essentially sent us to ground zero.  Well I’m more than glad to inform you that we’re back on top getting a healthy 300 – 400 hits a day and growing.  In my opinion, as vain as it is, I see page hits as a measurement of success, and in my eyes, what we’re accomplishing is absolute success.  I’m sure big name blogs and entertainment sites would scoff their heads, but success is in the eye of the beholder, and I’m going to share with you how I got my ‘success’.

This article will talk about how I get the most viewership out of my blog.  Forget the cheesy page on WordPress that tells you how to get traffic or any of those other posts that talk about that, I’m talking the dirty, under the table stuff people tend to overlook.  We do real talk here.  This isn’t for bloggers who write poems, anecdotes and post quotes hoping to get noticed.  Take that shit to Tumblr.  If you legitimately want a successful blog in terms of viewers, take a look at these points.

Adjust Your Target Audience to Maximize Viewership, Talking About Your Feelings Isn’t Something Everyone Wants to Read

From my perspective, the successful blogs are the ones that entertain the most.  And if you don’t have your target audience in mind and understand the numbers that encompass that audience, then you’re going to be very disappointed.  Take the example I pointed out above regarding those who post quotes about life, write poems and colorful anecdotes about their experiences.  Don’t get me wrong, there are probably some of the greatest soulful writers hidden as a gem from some of these blogs.  But in a sea of absolute crap and garbage, who has the time to read every Philosophical Penny and Deep David out there?  And just how many people a day did you think they’d want to read about the ups and downs of someone else’s life?

If you find yourself scratching your head as to why a movie is acting a certain way or wondering how a certain plot hole came to exist, then this article on Cracked is the one for you.  For example, in Empire Strikes Back, how did Luke Skywalker jump so high to get out of the Carbonite freezing?  Sure Yoda trained him, but never to jump that high.  This article brings out plot holes like these that are explained in movie scripts that never made it into the movie.  While they’re plot filling and make many beloved movies more sensical, not all of them should’ve been done…You’ll have to read on to find out what I’m talking about…

Crucial Movie Moments that Never Made It Into the Script

This is a perfect time to post this kind of thing considering the major election of 2012 is coming up in a couple of months.  What we have here is a series of political attack ads, as seen on the ones on television with corny pictures, enunciated sentences and harsh personal statements that attack other potential candidates.  We have all the major players here, Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, and Daenerys Targaryen.  I loved the ploys used like the Birth Certificate and other things.  Check out the other two below.

I stumbled upon this hilarious image about how movie heroes get their girls.  It starts off a little satirical, but by the end, it gets absurd and disgusting.  Haha, Spider Man not being himself rings true, but by the time you get to Buffalo Bill, it’s pretty dark.  I honestly only recognize 14/15, the one not being the bottom left.  Someone please remind me what movie that’s from and what the connection to geting women is.

Personally, my method is playing the, ‘I’m an editor-in-chief of a popular internet blog’.  It does not work.  I am still single.
