A quick silhouette drawing I did for a concept of Gillian’s meeting with the leaders of the Black Carnival. Judging eyes on a wildcard.

Happy 75th Birthday Flash!

The Flash has risen in popularity over the past couple of years. In thanks to the great comic book restart during the New 52 event, the rising CW television series, and the eventual Flash movie starring Ezra Miller. This year marks the 75th anniversary of when the Flash hit the panels, so I did some quick fan art depicting the Scarlet Speedster doing what he does best. Running.
Gonna celebrate some Robin 75 in my next drawn.
Arcade Sona Digital Painting

This is a drawing of Arcade Sona I painted. She’s probably one of my favorite champions right now and she looked like a lot of fun to draw. As stated before, I’m pursing a different style now, kind of edging away from keeping with line art and using more of a brush. The previous Harley Quinn picture was simple though. This drawing was a lot more complex, using nearly triple the colors required to do this technique. I’m really proud of this one and look forward to what else is in store for 2015!
I wrote a small breakdown of how I did the whole thing included below.
Harley Quinn Digital Painting

My obsession with Harleen Quinzel continues as I use her as my object for trying a new style. I took a painting + blur tool on this one versus my normal style. I really liked the shading that can come from it and how it looks without the line art. Expect more experimentations with this.
I kinda set it vaguely at Arkham Asylum, hence her orange jumpsuit. I’m going to say Harley found her infamous collar (and ultimately the calling card to get her to be recognizable) amidst a riot where she wrestled away a police baton. She also found her old name tag and set out to correct it to better reflect who she is now. And of course, she’s always equipped with that absolutely adorable smile.

The Final Battle

It’s my last finals week before I graduate and I decided to draw a little sketch of my last battle. Buzz is guiding me, as always as I fight against the four classes I have to beat. Here’s a little backstory to the characters I’m up against:
PSYC 2210 (Social Psychology): Psychic Sarah. She uses her psychic knowledges of social psychology to get my anxiety levels above normal.
ChBE 4310 (Bioprocess Engineering): Biomass Betty. Betty overwhelms me her shear mass in biotechnical mumbo jumbo that I know nothing about.
ChBE 4200 (Unit Operations): U.O. 2000. This robot from lab class is going to take full advantage of me not brining my goggles and lab coat to the fight.
ChBE 4535 (Product Design): Designer Desiree. Designer Desiree gives me vague and ill-defined riddles and expects me to solve them.
Now I should probably stop drawing and go back to studying…
Gillian Akers Speed Drawing

Some ways back I did a drawing of my webcomic series’s leading lady, Gillian Akers. I recorded the drawing and finally had the chance and internet speed to upload it. Enjoy!
The Binding of Lazarus

Lazarus was the first player I beat Mom’s Heart with in the Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth for PS4. I’m really happy this game was free for PS4 this month and I’ve really enjoyed my time with it. It’s such a subtly perverse game with incredibly (and hilariously) dark moments. Since playing and beating Mom’s Heart (which I wasn’t even able to see the epilogue because I died immediately after I killed her), I’ve lost 10 times in a row.
I was so happy with this game, I decided to draw up some quick fan art. Here we have Lazarus with some random monster (one I made up, don’t really think it’s a real one). I very much adore the art style of this game and it feels like something I would come up with in a horrific nightmare.

Took a break from The Black Carnival Webcomic to make this graphic profile for our leading lady. I’ll (try to) slowly roll these out for all the characters introduced so far to help build the universe. You can tell I do a rush job on the comic strips for the sake of delivering content, but I enjoy spending some time and detail into making better drawings (this one took about 3 1/2 hours).

Black Carnival #7
Some notes: I’m going to experiment with how other comics deal with large walls of text. By the end of the fourth panel, I was getting upset that I would draw a whole panel only to have it blocked out by a wall of text (Panel 3). So I either have to be more concise in the writing or experiment and come up with solutions like I did in panel 4.
I normally (try to) participate in National November Writing Month, but this year I decided to do something a little different. Instead of a 1500 words a day, to get to the coveted 50,000 word novel, I’m going to try a panel a day (they do say a picture is worth a thousands words…). I’ve already gotten Black Carnival written up to #16 and I’m very excited for having what’s in store for the story. I’m already several days behind, but that’s not going to stop a man like me.
Black Carnival #6: “Lady Valora”

Yay another Black Carnival. In this page we introduce Lady Valora who has had a major character redesign since last time I drew concept art of her. And of course our main characters have also gone under another character redesign. As mentioned before, will keep experimenting as I get more and more comfortable with a specific design. More Black Carnival kinda soon. Will probably continue to go at this sluggish pace unfortunately. Too many other things to draw at the same time.
For example, got something cooking up for Halloween. Let’s hope I can make it in time.
Project Pool Party v2

Over a year ago, I drew a piece on my new Cintiq drawing tablet that involved 9 characters and a pool party.
It was my first piece on my new drawing tablet. As proud of it as I am, I’m happy to know that I’ve grown a lot over the year in terms of skill & patience.
So today I present to you a redrawing of that first piece containing the same nine characters in the same environment, a pool party! It was a lot of fun, can’t wait to get started on the next couple of projects I have lined up.
From the left: Ellie, Rose Red, Rhaegal the Dragon, Omar Little, Cloud, Steve, Viserion the Dragon, Drogon the Dragon, and Daenerys Targaryen.
I’ve included the original picture below. I’ve come a looooong way.
On another note, I have more projects on the way, Black Carnival, Saga fan-art, some Korra, I have a lot of ideas and hopefully the time to do them!
Harley Quinn from Assault on Arkham Wallpaper

A piece I tried with a thinner pen. I hadn’t drawn Harleen in a while so I figured it was time for a new piece. More comic book-ey, less cartoony. I like the results. Slow pieces will continue to make their way to Banana Scoop.
Wonder Woman Wallpaper

I made another shot at Wonder Woman because I wanted a wallpaper on my computer screen that I drew. My two previous attempts were okay at best and I’m much more satisfied with this version. This one didn’t take long, only about an hour and a half or so for the whole thing. Tried to record a speed draw of it, but my software crapped out on me :/.
Things will slow down even more for a variety of reasons:
- School career fairs
- General job hunting
- Crazy high level lab reports
- DESTINY
The Sheriff’s Office – Black Carnival WIP

I’m gonna be MIA for a while while I get work done on this large (maybe the largest) project I’ll ever draw to completion. At the current state of the Black Carnival comic book, we’ve only seen four members of the Black Carnival Sheriff’s Office. 1) Gillian Akers, our rash, feisty, and impulsive protagonist. 2) Flynt, Gillian’s Guardian Angel. 3) Sheriff Meiter, the fearless Satyr leader of the Sheriff’s office. And 4) Miss Darcy, the hormonal secretary. Well I’m working on a large profile shot that will feature 10 to-be-featured players at the Black Carnival Sheriff’s office. I’ve included a work-in-progress screenshot of a corner that features two the of confirmed profiles to be included. The other 6 characters to be included are influenced heavily on concept art I’ve done in the past and previous incarnations of the Black Carnival story, but will be reimagined as the latest canon concepts in this drawing. It’s a large project and in balancing it with school, it will be tough to promise when it’ll come out. I’m working very hard on it and will try to get it out as soon as I can.
I Drew Roger Sterling

Roger Sterling
Dialogue I had in mind when drawing this:
Roger’s current mistress: “turn out the light honey”
Roger: “what light, there is no light, when has there ever been a light?”
Interestingly enough there are two types of Rogers: 1) hilarious and fun bro-Roger and 2) depressed and messy Roger. I opted to draw the 2nd because that Roger is so fascinating to me.
I did this as a request from a friend. Roger is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite character in my recently finished Mad Men. After drawing my first favorite, Peggy (which this drawing makes look silly in terms of detail and effort lol), I still had a pang for Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. And poof this piece I’m really proud of in terms of detail and shading.

I finished Mad Men guys. I have an article to write summing up my experiences with it, but for now I’m settling with some fan art of my favorite character in the series, Peggy Olson. Lots to do in the coming week. The Mad Men article, Black Carnival #4, packing to move out to my new apartment next week! Let’s hope I have time.
Black Carnival #3: “Distress Signal”

I love that first panel. I went as far as making it my Twitter Profile image for a while I love it so much. I’m getting the hang of a routine when it comes to drawing these. In the past, I would sketch all four panels, then proceed to inking all four panels, then proceeding to coloring all four panels, etc. But now I am doing one whole panel at a time and I like that a lot better. You legitimately feel the progress and you don’t get burnt out with limited completion. Depending on my schedule Black Carnival #4 might take a little bit longer to finish because it’s a 6 panel page and I want to work on some pin up art.

Deputy Gillian Akers meets Sheriff Meiter’s new secretary to discover a dark secret.
Black Carnival Overview Summary:
My name is Gillian Akers You see, 3 years ago most of my family was massacred in an attempt to seize the family’s prized possession, ownership of The Black Carnival. I was one of the few survivors and the heavens literally sent help from above to keep me safe from those who want to take my right to one day own it. The Black Carnival is a controlled ‘haven’ for all things dangerous, discarded, and devious. Ownership provides you access to some of the most powerful and dangerous people and beings around. But my whole life I never really cared about that, at least until my family paid the price for it. To help me survive, my Uncle Flynt has trained me as a part of his protection initiative. I intend to use my newfound skills to return to the Black Carnival to find the people who murdered my family. My uncle and I now work as a part of the Black Carnival Sheriff’s Office, occasionally taking out the Carnival’s trash and simultaneously investigating those who tried to take everything away from me. I will work day and night to find them and return the favor.
I’ve got plenty of panels already written, so it’s up to me to get off my lazy butt and draw them. I’m really excited about the new direction and am very satisfied with the quality. Satisfied. Maybe satisfaction isn’t enough…Which means I can probably step up my game ;D.
