This is immensely cool map for anyone living in the United States.  This is very similar to Google maps where you can type in your address and see the stores and stuff around your area.  The best part of this map is the fact that it’s catered to surviving a zombie apocalypse.  The stores you’ll see are your malls, gun shops, police stations, etc.  It’s very creative and awesome map.  Be sure to check your chances if/when the zombie apocalypse comes.

United States of Film

Believe it or not, every state in the United States have a famous film set in that area.  If you’re American born, the first state you checked was you’re own hometown and to see if your film is more significant than others.  I’m Gone With the Wind, fairly significant in my opinion.  North Dakota, a state tormented and made fun of for absolutely nothing happening there happens to have one of the better films: Fargo.  I’m very surprised New Jersey’s isn’t ‘Garden State’.  What’s your state’s film?

And what’re your bets for Alaska and Hawaii.  I’d put the Descendants on Hawaii and as for Alaska…all I can think of is Brother Bear…lol

God, it seems like high schoolers in movies always knew how to throw the best parties.  Or even college students.  And according to this list, there are also 30 year olds that know how to party.  In my opinion, I think the 30 year olds that make this list: Frank the Tank, Billy Madison, etc. are a little creepy, but hey, when you’re funneling beers, I suppose it doesn’t matter who’s holding one end and who’s drinking out the other.

There’s a certain pretenciousness that comes with being a Movie Buff.  We judge others for their lack of interest/ignorance when it comes to the industry.  You always have something to say when someone says they’re excited for the next Transformers movie.  You vomit endless amounts of useless information when someone asks you who that black actor in Die Hard 3 was.  A while back, I did an article about the benefits of being a movie buff, but there are certainly cons that also come with it.  And I request you movie buffs out there to be sure to tone yourself down when you do these things, because even I find them obnoxious from time to time.  And to those I’ve talked to, I’m sorry if I movie douched you in any way.  This list I’ve come up with are the direct experiences with what I’ve done and what I’ve seen others do.  But if you’re with your movie buddies, go buck wild.  So here are ways you can act like a pretentious movie douche.  **Note, this is a very attacking article and very stupid in my opinion.  I mainly wrote it to vent some built up feelings.  Feel my wrath.

As a self-classified geek, I love it when the geeks in movies get the girls.  And so after reading this list, I knew I had to share it with ya’ll. Maybe this will happen to me one day.

One of my scheduled posts is to watch the entire James Bond Anthology for the firs time.  I’ve seen most of the Pierce Brosnan ones and the Daniel Craig ones, and only a sprinkle of Sean Connery’s work.  But it doesn’t take a die hard bond fan to appreciate the mash of all the introductions.  Something that perked up my ears is what one Youtube commenter asking for all the shots to be synced together.  A notion I wouldn’t mind either.

I want to open up a debate today regarding who is today’s most significant director.  Obviously the answer is open ended and very opinion based, ranging from choosing your favorite director based on a favorite movie vs. his style.  But I want to narrow it down by choosing a director who’s currently still making the best movies.  I do appreciate out of the box answers like, Stanley Kubrick and his influence on the style and heavy music moments in Nicholas Winding Refn, and I questions just how movie savvy you are if you can make that connection.  I am not a film major, so the lines aren’t as clear as some of you who are, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion, so I challenge those who are intimidated by these notions to take a chance and stand by your choice.

In my honest opinion, I think today’s most consistently good director is without a doubt Christopher Nolan.  He’s distinguished himself over and over again with his blockbuster movies that are more than just blind action movies.  I understand that some directors after a big action movie with a production company breathing down their necks would want to take a break and do an artsy and less demanding film, but Christopher Nolan’s break from The Dark Knight was Inception and we both know how amazing that was.  His track record is near flawlesss with Memento and Insomnia as his relatively underappreciated beginnings [neither films got as much attention as they did until Nolan did The Dark Knight].  And he continued to build upon them with the genius of The Prestige.

I also respect him as a private man, who values the magical sense of his movies.  Seriously, no one knew what the hell Inception was about until they sat down at a movie theater and watched Leo break down dream hunting to them.   Now-a-days, he’s become a household name and his name attached to anything warrants the public to go see what he’s up to.  When he wraps up his Batman trilogy, the man will be unrestrained again to do what he likes, and I’ll sure as hell be lining up at the theaters to shell out for whatever he produces.  And I think that mentality is what makes me believe he’s the most significant director out there today, a man who, no matter what the material is about, we line up for because of his name attached to a film.

And now I truly want your opinion.  I know I haven’t really been making a community of Banana Feed recently, leaving comments unreplied or unthanked, and I’m honestly trying to fix that.  These discussion threads are meant to spark debate that I would gladly have with any of you.  Just be sure to observe common courtesy to myself and others on this site.

I made a vow to watch more silent movies after The Artist.  While I haven’t actually done so yet, I’ve made an effort to research the ones I would watch.  Shadowlocked has come up with a tasteful list of movies I would definitely watch.  It’s a completely different culture when it comes to silent movies.  I recognize very few of the titles and I can’t even imagine the style and acting required to make these movies sing.  I’ll get back to you when I finally do accomplish this.

If you’re going to satirize the rerelease of an old movie as 3D you might as well make it as absurd as possible.  And that’s what Pistol Shrimps, a Youtube account that heavily satirized the Lord of the Rings which I celebrated here.  They completely make fun of the rerelease as well as the styles of other directors like JJ Abrams and Michael Bay.  The video is well made and fairly hilarious, so be sure to check it out.

If you are a Harry Potter fan reader, you will either do one of three things when you read this article: 1) refute everything this article has to say and have the text to support your claims.  2) be horrified in the universe you’ve come to love and the implications some of your favorite scenes truly had or 3) Be in absolute awe that you never thought of that yourself.  This article contains the harsh truths of the Harry Potter universe.  There are more than a few people who wish they were wizards in this world, but after reading this article, it’s hard for me to say the same.  With the entire world being magic, it seems as though my life would be fairly boring if I didn’t know Harry Potter and was just an average wizard forced to clean owl poop.  My favorite point is he sincere lack of education if you’re not an Auror.

This video circled around a couple of weeks ago, pointing out the absurdity of the lightsaber fight, the one redeeming factor I believed to be in the Phantom Menace.  It almost broke my heart be be this blind sighted when I saw him point out the most obvious flaws in what I thought was an awesome scene.  In this video, the creator decided to point out ways to fight in a lightsaber fight.  He’s obviously sarcastic and his true goal is to point out how fake this fight was choreographed.  Enjoy.  And die a little more inside about thinking about how Star Wars has been ruined.

Was Snow White’s first instinct to clean the house sexist?  Moviefone has compiled a list of children’s movies that caught flak for possibly containing some insensitive humor.  Obesity, anti-oil, and hidden sex images are mentioned, but it’s up to you to believe if the company meant to add them.  I personally like to think so because I like the idea of movie writers and producers snickering in their rooms as they get Snow White residuals from 1950.

Nearly a month ago, I posted some real life renderings of Disney Princesses.  They were beautiful representations of some of the most memorable heroines in Disney movies.  A friend came to me afterwards asking for where Cinderella and Snow White and Tiana were.  I was surely puzzled because the artist had bothered to draw obscure Princesses like Meg and even Ursula.  So I did a little digging and found out that I haven’t shared the entire set yet.  So here’s the rest of them.  I realized I didn’t give credit to an artist, so let me fix that mistake here: http://jirkavinse.wordpress.com/  The  rest are down below.

Cracked is my crack.  They continue as a whole to blow my mind as they make seemingly unaffliated movies be like brother and sister.  Like long lost brother and sister that was shoved into the plot of Return of the Jedi because people favored a Solo/Leia storyline.  I digress.  Cracked has once again proved themselves by taking two movies that have essentially the same storyline.  While a couple are a result of pure hindsight, the others are purely hilarious and you’d be foolish to not believe it.

The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the earth.  And a relatively badass named James Cameron [director of Titanic and Avatar] decided to find out what it’s like down there.  And in true 21st century fashion, the man Tweeted from the deepest chasm of earth.  While his motives are said to be for science and adventure, I’m hoping it’s going to contribute to his rumored ‘sea-world’ or Pandora for his next Avatar movie.  Check out the article and Tweet below.

[edit] I’m late with the video commentary, but here it is none the less.  This is a clip from Life’s Too Short, a BBC turned HBO show, that I wrote about a couple of weeks back.  It’s a hilarious cameo by Liam Neeson who goes to British  comedic geniuses Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant as he tries to tell them he wants to get into comedy.  Naturally Liam Neeson has no comedic chops,  but his deadpan delivery of taboo topics ironically makes him hilarious in this clip.

I’m personally not a late night host watcher, but I do appreciate some of the awesome things they accomplish.  In this video, Jimmy Kimmel seemed to assemble every A-lister known to the industry in this epic mashup called Movie: the Movie, where he pretty much makes fun of movie cliches.  The clip itself isn’t THAT hilarious, but more of a crazy achievement in putting this many A-listers into one video.  And as always: Kate Beckinsale is mighty fine.

Ain’t gonna lie, ever since Jean Dujardin did The Artist, he’s proven himself a very charming and talented actor.  In this Funny Or Die original, they talk about how European actors doing very famous villain roles after they first make contact with the Hollywood blockbuster and name examples to qualify their statement [Spanish: Javier Bardem, German: Cristolph Waltz, French: Jean Dujardin].  Anywho, the rest of the video shows him casting for upcoming action movies.  I love actors who do Funny or Die because all it really does is make fun of who they are, and actors that don’t take themselves seriously enough to do them make them more likable.  Anywho, check out the video above to laugh and fall in love with Jean all over again.

Crack showers my morning links again with an oldie that takes on sequels that were imagined and eventually rejected.  Among them a sequel to Se7en called Ei8ht, a second Forrest Gump, and another Beetlejuice [which I think is actually still in the cards].  They talk about the potential sequel and also point out how wrong it would’ve been to do with each one.  Some of the stories simply don’t make sense, others are way over the top versions, and some even try to bring back characters that are clearly lightyears away or not even from the same world.  Well, as usual, Cracked writers have a whole mess of facts and sources that back their statements, and I highly recommend you check it out yourself.
