Black Carnival #10
Gillian, Flynt, and Marraine team up to take down the Abomination. But will their combined efforts be enough?
With every page, I’m getting more and more confident as I experiment with what works best and looks cool. I change styles often within this page, but I’m really happy with the results. I plan on working on one non Black Carnival drawing before I get into #11. I’m really excited about this one as it’s VERY overdue.
Let’s just say things are gonna get Bloody.

Happy Birthday [gurgle] Morty or Whatever

A drawing I did for a friend. I caught up on Rick and Morty earlier this spring in response to the hype for season 2 coming later this July. He mentioned that a cross over between Game of Thrones and Rick and Morty might be cool. I thought it would be cool as well.
More art on the way. I know it’s been just videos lately, but I’m pretty excited about these next projects, so stay tuned!
The Black Carnival #9

Wow!
Bet you didn’t see that coming did you? Gillian and Flynt are back again to wrap up the “cat-in-the-tree” storyline.
Why the revival?
I once read a quote regarding about going to your grave with your unrealized ideas and aspirations are a waste of human ingenuity. Originally, I had given up on delivering my story for The Black Carnival in favor of other endeavors. It was a notion I truly hated myself for deciding. After 5 months, I’ve returned to take another attempt at delivering my story. No point in wasting human ingenuity right?
The Black Carnival will continue to serve as a means of experimentation with style and feasibility. I get faster and more efficient with each drawing. There can be only good things that come from this.
Black Carnivals will be released with no schedule. I’ll try to crank them out when I can, but I’ll be mixing in other pieces of work between each page.

Mad Max Fury Road: Bloodbrothers

Have you all seen Mad Max yet? My goodness, if the answer is no, you need to remedy that this weekend. From its adrenaline pumping soundtrack to its awe-inspiring visuals to Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, you need to get on what is shaping up to be one of the best movies of the year. I loved it so much that I drew two of the main characters, Max and Nux as they first know each other toward the beginning of the film. Bloodbrothers. You’ll get the reference.
I’m still struggling with finding and identity for my style. I’m generally proud of this one, but I found myself wandering and not really knowing what the hell I was doing when I was drawing this one.
Looking forward to the next one. My binging of Rick and Morty has me jonesing to do some fan art, but I’ve got another big project in my mind and I’m highly considering pursuing that instead.
Remember to follow on Twitter for hilarious updates.

The Queue Podcast Gang

If you didn’t already know, I’ve been lending my talents on a new podcast called The Queue, a group of friends who gathered to talk about geeky things trending in pop culture. We love talking shop about our passions and I got inspired to draw the The Queue Crew in an efforts to bring up the hype.
Historically speaking, all members of The Queue used to be writers for Banana Scoop during our more active years. You’ll recognize SoGoCJE, Ben, and myself in the picture. I guess in a way we never really left each other’s lives as we’ve moved from writing to podcasting. It’s all the same as long as we get to discuss with each other what we’re passionate about.
Check out freeBrunchGaming to get access to downloading the audio files.

Corey from Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

You can hear the skull cracking. This without a doubt is probably the most NSFW piece I’ve drawn to date. But with Hotline Miami still ringing in my bones, I had to draw something to pay tribute to the high-octane feeling I get when I clear a level. The game is absolutely brutal, punishing, and ridiculously addictive.
So I drew Corey (who is a girl, which I didn’t know until I started researching her character), who is known for her tumbles. She bats hard and the goons don’t stand a chance.
Feel free to leave constructive criticism. I’ve also included a speed drawing for you all to enjoy with a smooth 80s-esque track to get lost in.
Animal Man Vs. The Rot

So I’m catching up on Animal Man and I’ve really begun to like Bernard “Buddy” Baker as Animal Man. I’ve been meaning to write an article about how amazingly different and utterly disturbing reading Animal Man has been, but I settled with this drawing for now.
Enjoy!
Melaka Fray Drawing and Speed Draw

Finished Fray a while back. Inspired, I drew the gorgeous and deadly Melaka Fray. Quite the exercise in background too. Very satisfied with this one. And I recorded this drawing that I enclosed below.
So the last bazillion things I’ve drawn are all strong and gorgeous women. Time to amp up the testosterone. Thinking of some Animal Man/Swamp Thing…in chibi form. Maybe. Not sure. It will come to me.
Rockabilly Jinx

It’s been a long time since I drew something and shared it here. I decided to draw some fan art of my favorite ADC from League of Legends as of light. She’s got a new skin (Firecracker!) coming out and I’ve decided that she should really get a Rockabilly skin. Punk hair, tattoos, and revealing clothing.
For her three guns, Rockabilly Jinx is sporting minigun guitar, an RPGC rocket propelling guitar case, and a microphone zapper. Enjoy!
Arcade Sona Digital Painting

This is a drawing of Arcade Sona I painted. She’s probably one of my favorite champions right now and she looked like a lot of fun to draw. As stated before, I’m pursing a different style now, kind of edging away from keeping with line art and using more of a brush. The previous Harley Quinn picture was simple though. This drawing was a lot more complex, using nearly triple the colors required to do this technique. I’m really proud of this one and look forward to what else is in store for 2015!
I wrote a small breakdown of how I did the whole thing included below.
Harley Quinn Digital Painting

My obsession with Harleen Quinzel continues as I use her as my object for trying a new style. I took a painting + blur tool on this one versus my normal style. I really liked the shading that can come from it and how it looks without the line art. Expect more experimentations with this.
I kinda set it vaguely at Arkham Asylum, hence her orange jumpsuit. I’m going to say Harley found her infamous collar (and ultimately the calling card to get her to be recognizable) amidst a riot where she wrestled away a police baton. She also found her old name tag and set out to correct it to better reflect who she is now. And of course, she’s always equipped with that absolutely adorable smile.

Quickly drew some Wonder Woman fan art. I’m adjusting to a new computer, so I’m keeping my drawings relatively simple for now. Hope you all enjoy it!

I made another shot at Wonder Woman because I wanted a wallpaper on my computer screen that I drew. My two previous attempts were okay at best and I’m much more satisfied with this version. This one didn’t take long, only about an hour and a half or so for the whole thing. Tried to record a speed draw of it, but my software crapped out on me :/.
Things will slow down even more for a variety of reasons:
- School career fairs
- General job hunting
- Crazy high level lab reports
- DESTINY
The Sheriff’s Office – Black Carnival WIP
Posted in Fig Art, The Black Carnival, tagged adobe, Art, cintiq, digital art, Drawing, manga studio, photoshop, wacom, web comic on August 26, 2014| Leave a Comment »
I’m gonna be MIA for a while while I get work done on this large (maybe the largest) project I’ll ever draw to completion. At the current state of the Black Carnival comic book, we’ve only seen four members of the Black Carnival Sheriff’s Office. 1) Gillian Akers, our rash, feisty, and impulsive protagonist. 2) Flynt, Gillian’s Guardian Angel. 3) Sheriff Meiter, the fearless Satyr leader of the Sheriff’s office. And 4) Miss Darcy, the hormonal secretary. Well I’m working on a large profile shot that will feature 10 to-be-featured players at the Black Carnival Sheriff’s office. I’ve included a work-in-progress screenshot of a corner that features two the of confirmed profiles to be included. The other 6 characters to be included are influenced heavily on concept art I’ve done in the past and previous incarnations of the Black Carnival story, but will be reimagined as the latest canon concepts in this drawing. It’s a large project and in balancing it with school, it will be tough to promise when it’ll come out. I’m working very hard on it and will try to get it out as soon as I can.
Jason Todd as Red Hood
Posted in Books, Fig Art, tagged Art, Batman, cintiq, comic books, comics, dc, jason todd, manga studio, red hood, robin, wacom on May 23, 2014| Leave a Comment »
Jason Todd was found by Batman breaking into the Batmobile as a kid. When Bruce saw potential in the young boy, he made him his second Robin. Jason was fueled by rage and revenge, which led to his painful death at the hands of the Joker, leaving Bruce distraught. After he was resurrected [because comics logic], he returned to Gotham as the masked vigilante Red Hood, where he takes an ultraviolent approach to dealing with Gotham’s criminals. Red Hood and the Dark Knight have butted heads ever since, debating on whose justice system is working for Gotham better.
If interested, read or watch the DC story arc: “Under the Red Hood”. It’s really good.
Taking a small break from the Robins to do some original content. It’ll be up in a couple of days.
Princess Diana of Themyscira aka Wonder Woman

Here’s a quick one-day sketch of Diana Prince who is also known as Wonder Woman. I’m a bit on a DC bend right now. Expect more DC heroes, particularly the Bat family. I got Batgirl in the works. Might go towards the 3 remaining Robins I haven’t done. Might go towards some villains. And of course the B-man himself. Any who, I’m still trying to find my ‘style’ so to speak, so expect some variations.
As for Black Carnival stuff, I’m not entirely sure where I want to go with it. With summer here, I have the time to return to a strip a week, but I’ve considered heavy rewrites and of course more concept art changes. When I have something more solid, I’ll update everyone.
Jinx and Vi
Posted in Fig Art, Video Games, tagged cintiq, Drawing, fan art, jinx, League of Legends, manga studio, RIOT, vi, wacom on April 25, 2014| Leave a Comment »
Jinx and Vi have a staring contest. But Jinx looks like she’s got the upper hand…
One of the more time consuming and experimental projects I’ve done. I learned two new techniques drawing this: the transparency lock tool to color my line art and the multiplication blending tool to shade/light my drawing.
Anyways, I’m very excited to continue drawing and practicing. I’m think of doing some serious Bat Family or Wonder Woman stuff…Or some Saga stuff…Or some more League stuff.
These are the best kinds of problems.

It’s been pretty stressful over here at Georgia Tech. Chemical Engineering degrees don’t just get themselves. I’m sorry I’ve broken my promise of videos, comic strips, articles, and pictures every week. It’s unfortunately too much to handle. However, I’ll remember to update this blog every once in a while when I make something worth sharing.
Picked up the first two volumes of New 52 Nightwing. Thought it was pretty neat and drew this quick picture. Enjoy.
The Black Carnival Page 7

BOOM! Headshot. I am digging the way this page is done and the style. The past four pages have been a roller coaster of quality. From fully colored to incredibly bland to over artistic to whatever this is. Well, whatever THIS is is probably the style I’ll be sticking to for a while. It’s not too time consuming, I think it looks really good, and it’s actually making progress! Anyways guys, enjoy the page, looking forward to doing more.
Other Notes:
- continuity is something I’m not really concerning myself with too much right now. Yes the house looks different from two panel ago, yes the monster looks different from the cover, and yes Gillian’s hair length is changing from page to page. I am only a man.
- Stylistically, I’m getting more ambitious, which is a good thing, as long as I don’t abandon quantity too much. That being said, ‘weekly’ pages are something I’ll try to keep but not promise.
