With the new DLC just under a week from launch, I figured I’d take the time to outline the basics of what we’ll be getting come next Tuesday. For those hardcore Mass Effect multiplayer fans out there, there is hope. With the new Earth DLC we should be getting a slew of new content that will cater to everyone. With a new character for each class, a few new maps, and a few new guns, this update will keep the battlefields interesting for a long time to come. I’m personally very excited for the upcoming patch, and hopefully after reading the details of this article, you will be too. The character information as well as their skill lists will be included at the end of the article.
Bioware just knows how to cater to its fanbase, doesn’t it? With even more FREE DLC coming to one of their biggest titles after just a few months, I’m hoping the trend continues and possibly even influences other game companies to take a hint. Despite having day 1 downloadable content and arriving to a storm of hate and loathing concerning its rather confusing original ‘endings’, Mass Effect has continued to astound and impress both its critics and its advocates. Not only have we gotten exactly what the fans had asked for at no additional price, but we also got even more content again at no additional price. It may just be misplaced optimism but this bodes well for the gaming community in general when companies stop releasing DLC that could have been included in the game for an additional 15-20$ a piece (CoD Map Packs, I’m looking at you).
Moving along to the reason we’re all here, The Earth DLC for Mass Effect 3. Taking place on numerous maps located somewhere on our home planet, it seems fitting that we finally bring the fight here as the fight throughout the entire game is meant more or less to save it from the invasion and imminent destruction. With three new maps including London and Rio if I’m not mistaken, the battlefields have just gotten incredibly diverse. It’s also a nice change of pace from the usual maps we’ve gotten used to over the past couple of months. With 6 new classes and 3 new guns to compliment them, I’m pretty sure that people will be stockpiling their credits like never before in order to hopefully unlock some of this awesome content from the get go.
I’m gonna go ahead and sum up the contents here below as listed by Bioware forum member ‘Gibbed’. Below is a list of the classes to be added with the new Mass Effect DLC. A few additional bonuses that are included alongside the characters are the three maps and three guns that will be included. Unfortunately, only the maps will be unlocked at the start, but that just means it will be that much more gratifying to unlock everything just like you do every other piece of equipment in the multiplayer. Hopefully you guys will get the chance to check it out come next Tuesday.
(Adept) N7 Fury: Throw, Annihilation Field, Dark Channel
Fury: “Fury operatives use implants to fuel biotics and their incredible
movement speed. These operatives wind an unpredictable path on the
battlefield, moving in and out of combat before returning to unleash a
sweeping biotic attack on their unsuspecting targets.”
(Soldier) N7 Destroyer: Multi-Frag Grenade, Missile Launcher, Devastator Mode
Destroyer: “The Destroyer’s T5-V Battlesuit gives these strong-but-slow
soldiers mech-like protection. Driven by eezo-assisted actuators, these
frontline troopers carry heavy weapons onto the battlefield.”
(Engineer) N7 Demolisher: Homing Grenade, Arc Grenade, Supply Pylon
Demolisher: “The Demolisher uses grenades to attack at range and to
terrorize the battlefield. Demolishers can also create a supply pylon
that stocks allies with an unending reserve of grenades and thermal
reloads.”
(Sentinel) N7 Paladin: Snap Freeze, Incinerate, Energy Drain
Paladin: “The Paladin carries a powerful omni-shield onto the
battlefield to block enemy fire. The Paladin also uses the shield as a
heavy-melee weapon that, when modified with incindiery or cryo upgrades,
creates a devastating combination attack.”
(Infiltrator) N7 Shadow: Tactical Cloak, Shadow Strike, Electric Slash
Shadow: “Shadow infiltrators use implants to dramatically improve
agility, making them slippery combatants on the battlefield. Their
monomolecular blades are a menace from cover and close range.”
(Vanguard) N7 Slayer: Phase Disruptor, Biotic Charge, Biotic Slash
Slayer: “Slayers use implants to dramatically improve mobility. Their
dizzying sword attacks can hit multiple opponents, and the Slayer’s
ability to slip fire makes them hard to pin down on the battielfield.”
