All of us at Banana Scoop would like you wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Be sure to eat, spend time with friends and family, and be thankful for everything!
I had to forsake my family for a couple of hours to draw this…so appreciate it!

I uploaded a new video yesterday of me inking and coloring a new image. I uploaded a video similar to this idea a couple of days ago, as well as the finished project that I’ve re-added below. The inking and coloring of this project took approximately an hour and I was able to condense it to about 9 minutes. I might continue to decreasing the time in each of these so they’re more watchable.
In any case, if anyone is interested, I’m using Adobe Illustrator CS6. I’m more than free to answer any technical questions as well!

Yikes, I might’ve skipped last week in terms of articles. Primarily because I’ve been working on a new project that has been taking a lot of time. I’ve included the video introduction below. The video is essentially about me starting up a new site sometime in the future that focuses on something a little bit different from this blog. Check out the video below.
Woo-hoo, that’s my real voice! Can you believe it? Probably not exactly what you expected. But enough about that, back to the real news. The shift of focus to art from this movie and television blog will certainly have some repercussions to what I’m prioritizing, but overall I think it’s the right move. [Ha, be sure to ignore the ‘Banana Scoop is dead in the water quote’, it’s more of a humorous observation than a real statement.] I’ll still be updating Banana Scoop as often as I am now, with only 1 or 2 passionate articles a week.
The other writers are now more like contributors rather than full time writers, being able to use this blog as a creative outlet medium at their own pace and time. So I still hope you come by every once in a while to check out what we’re up to. On a side note, check below to see a time lapse of an art project I’m working on!

I have a strange obsession with Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn was once Dr. Harley Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. She became fascinated with the Joker and became his needy assistant by acting as his partner in crime. She’s always been a bubbly and villainous character, but I’ve been fascinated at her loss of sanity due to the power of the Joker. As of late, she’s been highly sexualized by the Arkham games so I decided to draw her based on her Batman: The Animated Series. Enjoy! Seeing as it’s October, it’s a good excuse to draw a bunch of weird and creepy things, so look forward to all of that this month.

By no means are we a political site, nor is this image supposed to send a particular message. As a favor to a friend, I drew Presidential candidate Mitt Romney as a Borg from Star Trek. In all honesty, I have never seen the original Star Trek series nor the next series with Patrick Stewart, so I had to Google what it was. The Resistance is Futile slogan is well known enough in pop culture and I had a blast drawing that awesome optical thingy I put on his head. What exactly can Borgs do? Does our boy Mitt have what it takes to be a Borg?
And who in the hell should I vote for come November? Let me know in the comments and in the poll!

Banana Scoop has a new contributor! Her name is Rachel and she’ll be posting several times a month. Not only does she have a lot of opinions on movies, books, video games, she’s also got something Banana Scoop hasn’t had yet: a female perspective on things. Read more about her joining in the Weekly Newsletter posted later today!
Rachel chose to have a coffee mug as her avatar. I initially went with a more mature looking coffee cup, but she recommended a softer side, so I added some more innocent features to her. I had a lot of fun playing with the spilt coffee above, despite if it’s a little bit superfluous Regardless, I hope she likes her new avatar!

The Avatar revamps continue. While Bruce just got an upgrade in animal species, SoGoCJE requested a complete revamp. From hooded gamer to robot, I rather liked this change. Primarily because he allowed me to try some really cool things with glowing lights. I had a lot of fun drawing this one. Below is a picture of an older version of him.

User Avatars continue their revamp with Bruce losing his lovable, cartoonish feel for a fierce and hardcore update. I’ve always been ambiguous if he was an ape or a gorilla and I decided to go with the more fierce one. Bruce loves movies, television, and video games, but his Macbook Pro is probably his most prized possession Like me, he finds happiness in the simple things like fruits, Adobe Software, and Mac OS.
SoGoCJE is getting a revamp as well, look forward to it next week. See Bruce’s old look below.

This is my second shot at a someone from my Black Circus Series, Cameron. She’s had a wardrobe change as well as a hair cut. Drawing women [or regular humans for that manner] is not my forte. I’ve had much better luck at werewolves and creepy clowns. Be sure to visit my deviant art page for more! Also see the original Cameron below.

Sadly, this is the last Universidaze comic I’ll publish in a long time. As school looms closer and closer, I know I need to give up some of the responsibilities I’ve given myself when it comes to this blog. And after evaluating some of the cost/profit aspects of this blog, Universidaze simply takes too much time for it to be worth it. If I were a free lance artist who could dedicate his one post a week to Universidaze, it would be doable. But balancing the 2-4 hour drawing process with 24 other articles a week is simply going to make this blog bleed.
The adventures of Chad and Miles seem to be over for now. It’s such a shame, considering I’ve grown very fond of the two of them and I feel as though I could’ve done so much more. The Universidaze tab will remain here for all those who wish to go back and read some of the older comics. I plan on playing around with the hyperlinks and making the page much nicer as a final send off. But who knows, maybe they’ll survive the crash. Maybe they’ll make a comeback. We can only wish and dream.

I’m ironing out some things with Universidaze as well as I’ve been asked by a friend to work on a project. I’ve been heavily investing my time into that so I don’t have a Universidaze out for you guys…sorry! We’ll hopefully be back next week!

The beautiful product of Adobe Illustrator. This project took about 8 hours. When I was working with only Photoshop, I never did anything this distinct, clean, or clear as this. Illustrator just takes things to a whole new level. Shadows are easier, lines are clearer, and organizing is all around better. I’m very excited if this is my first real work with Illustrator, I can only get better right? I’ll keep you all posted as I continue to draw art like this.
Heavy Influence from Monster Madness.

I’ve been learning a lot in the past 2 days. What we have above is a sleak combination of Illustrator and Photoshop. It’s still in the testing phase, so this comic is pretty half assed in terms of professionalism [like Chad said]. But still, I’m getting used to it and I can’t wait to reveal to you guys what I’ve been working on for my Sunday Sketch….It’s definitely awesome. In the meantime, read more Universidaze here!

A while back, I posted an article about my drawing method. Well after a little research, I quickly learned that I would forever be stuck in super amateur mode during that process. Turns out legitimate graphic designers take an entirely different approach to drawing. My original method was a very simple yet not very yielding process. So in response, I guess I decided to upgrade myself from Adobe Photoshop to Adobe Illustrator. In the process, I’m awing in the genius while simultaneously ripping my hair out. It’s not as simple as drawing a circle and filling it with the paint bucket fill tool anymore. There are vectors, paths, anchors, and handles. I’m trying to learn it all and even tried to produce an extremely ambitious project for you guys. But after about 2 hours that yielded me something not very satisfying, I decided I needed to practice a little more with the simple stuff before I tried to go for the advanced things.
Luckily, I’ll use simple enough interface to draw for Universidaze, so I’ll try and use Illustrator for my comics for now on as a means of practice. To promote and test it out, I drew up this quick Miles from Univesidaze in Illustrator and it took me about 10 minutes to draw that. It literally takes me 2 in photoshop, but this is something hopefully practice will help me fix. So that’s my excuse for no legitimate Sunday Sketch, but I’ll include the 2 failed projects below just so you can see how hard I tried for you guys.

As I finished up drawing Catwoman, I got the idea in my head to kinda go through my process of drawing with you guys. It will be very similar to the walk through of how I maintain my blog. Overall it’s a very interesting concept and I’ve learned A LOT in my journey as an amateur artist. Let me remind everyone: I am not an art major. Almost the exact actually, an engineer. So I have no real knowledge of how this is supposed to be done. The method I use is a rudimentary method of drawing some very amateur sketches. As I get more ambitious, I learn new things and methods that certainly make things easier as I apply them to whatever I draw. My most recent and ambitious project as of late is this Catwoman sketch which is still a work in progress. But I decided to take a break and kinda take you step by step with what I do.
List of Materials:
Read below for my step by step process. The main idea of this blog is simple: create a layer for everything. You’ll see why below. Please comment if you have any questions or critiques to make things easier! I don’t intend this post to be a guide. There are much better guides out there, it’s more of a documentation of my experiences. I’ll try and explain my steps with helpful screen caps to keep things clear. If you however want more details on this, I can certainly answer any questions you might have for me in the comment section below. I check this blog often so I’ll likely respond to your comments fairly quickly!
