I’m going to have to ask that you all bear with me for this post. I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of this game yet, so apologies if my opinions and assumptions are a little immature. Anyway, this week’s article will cover the game known as Saints Row The Third, which very recently was offered as part of the THQ Humble Indie Bundle if you paid over the average price people chose to pay (roughly 6$). It was an incredibly deal, and felt like a steal at that point considering the game is still roughly 20$ or more on Steam among other vendors. I quickly downloaded and got started (despite only having access to my laptop, which is nowhere near as powerful as a gaming rig, so I’ve been playing on the lowest settings). So far I’ve been incredibly entertained, especially with comedic style and dialogue between the characters. Without further ado, here is my first look at Saints Row, The Third. (more…)

Hopefully you guys had an awesome Thanksgiving break (for those of you who had one), for the rest of you, I apologize for not being able to post last week. I was incredibly busy, but now it’s time to get back to the weekly grind and give you guys the final installment of the Borderlands 2 Character Build Guides for now, at least until they release the next awaited character (who has been hinted at by Pitchford himself.) Anyway, let’s move onto the reason why we’re all here, Maya, the siren. While I haven’t had much playtime with her, she has been one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I’ve had thus far with the characters. While I don’t feel that she’s suited to single-player play due to her ability, I feel like Maya reigns supreme in lobbies due to her ability to both lock down an opponent and revive other players from across the map with appropriate aim. For the rest of the following article, you’ll be learning a bit about Maya’s history, reading about my playstyle with her, learning a way to build her, and checking which weapons I find useful with her. Without further ado, let us begin. (more…)

Welcome to the fourth installment of the Borderlands 2 In-depth Character Guides. For those of you who have read through the others, you know the drill, for those newcomers, allow me to cover a little step-by-step. Essentially these guides are made to help those new to the game adjust to their characters and learn fun ways to build them accordingly (as well as what weapons I prefer to use with them, but seeing as they’re mostly legendary, they’re a moot point until late/end-game). Anyway, this week’s guide focuses on one of the most fun characters to play in Borderlands 2, Salvadore, the Gunzerker. While a little psychotic and rather odd, this tanky character allows the player to dual wield guns at will, allowing him to increase is damage output and granting him some really awesome passive abilities. Without further ado, let’s jump right into the fourth guide in this set. If you’re new to the format, I’ll cover some secret information about the character’s history that are embedded into the game, followed by a set of builds to use for your character, and ending with a set of weapons that I deem appropriate for your character in particular (the character in question being reviewed). Hello folks, and welcome to the third installment of the Borderlands 2 In-Depth Character guides. In today’s review, I’ll be covering the latest of what may be many DLC characters for Borderlands, Gaige the Mechromancer. This genius, half-cyborg, half-human girl may potentially be one of the greatest sources of DPS in the game while specced into the Anarchy tree. Compounded by her trusty sidekick pet-type ability, this character is easily one of the best single-player characters for those of you who just don’t want to risk getting into hacked lobbies or dealing with rather unsavory people over online games. In comparison to every other character (with the possible exception of Axton), Gaige can hold her own against hordes of enemies due to the fact that her ability will tank tons of damage while allowing you to dish out damage yourself. Again, like the other guides I’ll be covering the history, recommended builds, and my favorite guns to utilize with this class. Without further ado, how about we jump straight into the guide? (more…)

As I finished a test on October 30th, I left the classroom defeated and broken. In a rage of impulsiveness, I went to the closest Gamestop and purchased Assassin’s Creed 3 on the fly. I had read a couple of reviews and I actually wasn’t expecting myself to buy this game. At least until the Game of the Year Edition came out with all the DLC loaded. But I was in such a foul mood after that test, I needed some immediate happiness. So after purchasing the game and throwing possibly over 10-20 hours into it already [maybe more], it’s been quite an interesting road.
Assassin’s Creed 3 picks up where Assassin’s Creed: Revelations dropped off [which I didn’t get]. My familiarity with the franchise only extends to 2 of the four previously released: Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood. The story is somewhat bloated between the present day Assassin/Templar conflict and the historical setting that’s essentially simulated. I have little care for the relation between the two and find myself loathing the present day stuff, so I’m going to focus this review on the historical setting chosen.
You play a Native American, Connor, during the peak of the American Revolution. The colonies are in conflict and the British Royal Army continues its oppression. Given the skills of a masterful assassin, it’s your job to turn the tides of the war making friends like Samuel Adams and George Washington along the way.

It is time for part 2 of my Borderlands 2 in-depth character guides. This week we focus on Zero, the Assassin. With an active ability similar to Lilith’s phasewalk with a lot less power (depending on your perspective on kunais), this character focuses on darting to and fro in battle, concealing himself and throwing enemies off his trail with his decoy before landing immense amounts of damage from the passive boost to gun or melee damage when breaking stealth. In this guide I’ll do the same that I did before concerning Axton. I’ll cover the history of the character, favorite builds, recommended weaponry, and other insightful information pertaining to this character. I will make a side note that Zer0 seems to be one of the most popular online characters for some reason, and many people find themselves lacking in diversity as far as parties are concerned, which intrigues me, as I also started with him. Unfortunately, his ability just didn’t seem to impress me as much as I thought it would, so I converted to playing both Gaige and Axton for a while. I’m also currently working on a Maya, but we’ll see how long that skillset intrigues me. Anyway, on to the guide…

Welcome to the world of proxy damage dealing and the sound of a large rocket mounted turret unleashing the very definition of destruction upon your very unlucky opponents. In this week’s article, I’ll be giving an in-depth look into the Borderlands 2 characters known as Axton, the Commando. While he is very far from being the highest source of damage per second, or DPS, in the game (which honestly shouldn’t matter all that much considering just how much chaos and destruction is being flung around during a normal four man game), he more than makes up for it with his ability, the Sabre Turret. With that ability by his side, any Commando player becomes a force to be reckoned with, hailing down massive amounts of damage with either dual turrets or a single destructive double-barrel slag gun. Within the depths of the following article you’ll find my recommended builds, favorite guns, and a little backstory on the character. Hope you enjoy! (more…)

Alrighty, so what may just be the final DLC for the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer has released, and a ton of things have come along with it. Mostly I’ll be covering the characters and maps, as I haven’t really gotten used to the weapons enough to really give you all a streamlined view of how they work. I do know for sure that they work similar to the prothean particle rifle in that they don’t rely on ammo crates for usage. Otherwise I can tell you that they don’t seem to be up to par, but that may just be a level issue, as I’m comparing them to level X rares and a couple mid-range UR weapons. Anyway, prepare to delve into what I think is the finest DLC Bioware has published to date. (more…)

If you’ve ever played an Assassin’s Creed game, then you know that about 75% of the game is being an urban monkey, swinging off man made structures and scaling towers in obscure robes, and then falling stories into a pile of hay assuming everything would be okay. This is obviously based on and hyperboloed (I don’t think this is a word) off of the (popular?) sport of parkour. Parkour essentially has you doing the same thing where you use elements in the urban environment to make bone-cracking jumps, and crazy (although unnecessary) flips. Well someone kind of found the medium and decided to do legitimately realistic parkour in Ezio Auditore’s wardrobe. It’s actually really cool and I’m surprised that whoever was taping him was able to keep up. Check it out above.

This is a neat image revolving around famous video game protagonists and their inabilities to speak sometimes. Besides a usual ‘hiyeah’ and grunt, these guys have little to say and much more to do. While I do recognize all four, I’m kinda embarassed to say that I’ve only played Mario and Zelda games. I’ve never played a Half-Life game nor Chrono Trigger, but I kind of assume that they’re also soft spoken. I wish I could dig up the artist, so if someone happens by them, please let me know.

So Bad Piggies has been a vacuum of time wasting and a staple to how I spend my time in class. Between Bad Piggies and stressing to get articles done in time, I think I might enjoy some mindless time wasting via Rovio’s latest mobile app. Bad Piggies is a spin-off of the Angry Birds franchise that circles around the bad guys of the original game. This time, they’re in your hands to acquire the thing they desire most: eggs. On your way to get the eggs, a number of hijinx ensue where you must help the pigs acquire pieces to maps that lead to the eggs. Unfortunately pieces are in unattainable areas and require you to help the pigs build miraculous contraptions to ge from point A to point B. The process is fun, challenging, and the time spent:payment ratio far exceeds the $0.99 game for iPhone.
An Appreciated Directional Change by Rovio
After a string of similar spin-offs: Angry Birds: Seasons, Angry Birds: Rio, Angry Birds Space, bringing the franchise in a new direction [and even keeping the old direction with the confirmed Angry Birds: Star Wars], using the Piggies as new protagonists in a completely different setting is really cool to see. Everyone thought this spin-off would be just another Angry Birds rip-off, but it’s pretty clear that this new game is built from the ground up with similar addictive elements like 3-star grinding and secret hunting.

Alrighty folks, so even though I haven’t really beaten the game yet, I’ve decided to give a ‘work in progress’ kind of review concerning the fancy new game I’m sure we’ve all been sinking our teeth into lately. While a lot of hype was generated for this title, I’ve had a lot of people asking me whether or not it would be a good idea to pick it up if they didn’t really enjoy the original. Bottom line, my answer is no. Borderlands 2 works by improving an already fun formula for those of us who enjoyed it, and while it brings a lot more upgraded stuff of the same type, it doesn’t truly redefine the mechanics, gameplay or storytelling potential of the original. The plot is definitely a lot more in-depth and detailed with tons of wacky characters, but I think if you simply didn’t enjoy the original, you won’t enjoy this one. Anyway, continue forth to read on about what’s going on in my head concerning Borderlands 2. (more…)

I’ve been perusing the internet as of late and found something incredibly interesting to keep track of. StarCrafts is a series of short animations involving the units from the universe of Blizzard’s Starcraft. It gives a certain personality to the characters involved, and makes the normally serious atmosphere of the game relatively childish and fun (personally my favorites are the dog-like zerglings or the short, pudgy marines). There are a total of 7 episodes out right now, with more on the way in a relatively timely fashion. Hopefully you all enjoy the videos.

From IGN, not very definitive, but who needs to explain Halo Minecraft? Anywho, take a look at some crazy ways people on Minecraft waste time. Bah who am I kidding, if I had the slightest ability to make any of these things, I totally would dedicate the hours to do so.
Happy Minecraft
Monday! To celebrate, let’s take a look at the some of the impressive ways Halo fans have expressed their love for the sci-fi shooter series…. in blocky Minecraft form.

Gungnam Style is a pop culture phenomenon. So combining it with other pop culture phenomenons seems like a good idea. Take this Empire Strikes Back example. This is the scene where Lando betrays Han, and betrays he does. When Han expects a pleasant dinner, he is instead greeted by Psy and the humping-asian-dude-in-a-straw-hat. Naturally, Han fires first (like a mother f*cking boss), only to have the asian man’s lumps and bumps deflect them.
An unnecessary breakdown of the 30 seconds clip? Yes. But I personally had fun writing it.

Crazy awesome artist Hatboy, had combined something truly awesome. Tim Burton gothic style art and Pokemon. Luckily, this guy is from my generation and he seems to be using the first 150 as his content material. As you can see from above, he takes a popular Pokemon type and redraws them with Tim Burton trademark creepy features and distinct art style…I can’t seem to find another word for it besides gothic and I keep wanting to use Corpse Bridey/Nightmare Before Christmasy. You can check out the entire gallery through his link where he does way more than some of the ones I featured here. Go on below to check out the rest of my favorites.

This isn’t a sketch created from my Bamboo Create, but it’s rather a look at another creative project I’ve been working on. Some members of our team on Banana Scoop are really into Minecraft, a game that I’ve written about here, here, and here. We’ve finally created a server which allows us to play multiplayer and we have since then begun creating a small town. We’re really proud of what we’ve created so far, and it’s only growing. So sorry I haven’t been able to have time to draw, I’ve been really busy building these houses! Here’s a look at the town created so far! Enjoy.
