Say what you will about the show, I avidly watch new SNL episodes every week simply because the sheer premise of the show and dedication of the cast astounds me.  Week after week they have to come up with new material and cater to the talents of the hosts.  So this Saturday night, we have the very talented Daniel Radcliffe hosting, likely to promote his new movie The Woman In Black.  Be sure to tune in and hopefully the writers will take advantage of his talents and give us the performance of a life time.  The links to his promos down below.

One would believe that this post was inspired by the recent popularity of my Tuesday post, 10 Favorite TV Characters of the Year, but in reality, both of these posts were written back to back and I just simply queued this one for a later date.  And especially as the ‘new year’ escapes us, I wanted to publish as many of these, ‘wrap up 2011’ posts as quickly as possible.  So please don’t fry my buns and deem this post as a selfish attempt to get more views.  But even if you never thought that in the first place, let’s get on with the show.

As I searched through 2011 movies, I’m rather disappointed in the relative lack of new characters.  Another heavy year of sequels and remakes, it was difficult finding 10 worthy characters that truly inspired and put goosebumps in my skin.  Out of these 10, I believe only about 6-7 truly deserve any praise, but I chose 10 to give some benefit of the doubt.  Only unfortunately, I haven’t seen EVERY movie in 2011, especially the tons of December releases, but I made it about as clear cut as I could.  Here’s the list below.

Collider does it again as it compiled some of the best Trailers released in 2011.

The Ten Best Trailers of 2011

Pulp Fiction is known as today as one of the greatest films in American cinema [depending on who you’re talking to].  It’s unchronological time frame and sharp dialogue made it memorable and extremely unique.  So when someone at IFC dug up a person who reedited Pulp Fiction and made it in chronological order, I simply had to watch it.  The weird part is, it kinda makes sense to do this, and I don’t know why I haven’t tried it before or even heard of it.  Hit the link below to check out IFC’s research on the subject matter.  It’s actually rather hilarious.  It talks about how some dude in the 90s had to do this…but with VHS tapes.

With Cars 2 pretty much out of the way for the best animated picture of the year, Dreamworks has a pretty good chance at nabbing the spot with their two blockbusters this year: Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots.  I’ve finally gotten a chance to see Kung Fu Panda 2, the sequel to the very enjoyable original Kung Fu Panda released in 2008.  As with most sequels [once again as exemplified in Cars 2], it’s risky to come up with both an engaging and original story.  But with a strong emotional story and fleshing out its likable supporting players in balance with its lead, Kung Fu Panda 2 exceeds my expectations and is, in my opinion, the best shot of best animated picture of the year.

Box Office Mojo has taken a look into the power house films of 2012 and analyzed what is most likely to bring in the biggest buck.  And based on their conclusions, they’ve come to realize that with sequels and franchises like The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Hunger Games and even Prometheus, a supposed prequel to Ridley Scott’s original Alien, are going to rule the box office.  Makes sense.  Check out the full article below.

Franchises and Sequels to Rule 2012

The people at Uproxx [which is a lot of people I might add, they maintain several websites], hilariously came up with how Robert Downey Jr. has created some of the most memorable characters in the past 3-4 years.  It’s quite unfortunate that recently, he’s too busy making sequels for these multimillion dollar franchises rather stepping out and creating more characters as unique as Kirk Lazarus or any other of his eccentric and likable characters.  The man is highly talented and I can’t wait to see what he comes to do next.

This is the beginning of my new webcomic series labeled Universidaze.  It mainly circles around the life of a couple of students that particularly go to Georgia Tech.  Their experiences can be related to almost every University, but those who understand the hardships and difficulties of Georgia Tech will be able to embrace this series the best.  Regardless, Wednesdays will  officially be the release of every issue, be sure to tune in!

One of my favorite websites, Collider, has created an Oscars of their own and held some of the awarded some very accurate nominations.  Hit the link below to view them all.  I, and I’m sure I’m not alone, have a couple of disagreements, the biggest as labeling Andy Serkis’s character Caeser from Rise of the Planet of the Apes as a ‘supporting’ character.  But simultaneously my credit could be considered a moot point because I honestly haven’t seen EVERY movie on that list.  Regardless, I high suggest you check it out.

WordPress isn’t very kind to embedding videos that aren’t Youtube, so when Youtube/Google doesn’t have it in their format, I’m kinda screwed.  So I’ve given you the link to a video the guys at College Humor made that makes fun of the redundancy of the mass amount of sequels we have today.  Enjoy!

2011 had a lot of good television.  One thing that makes the television good is the likable/badass/hilarious characters that we’ve come to love, hate, or even love to hate.  Whether it be new or old, we had some of the most powerful performances this year and it’s quite difficult to rank them all.  And with each show having at least 5 main characters, choosing 10 characters from the best shows on air was rather difficult.    What made this even harder was that I had to balance the 2010-2011 midseason line ups with 2011 fall tv line ups, but ultimately everything eventually fell into place as I realized clearly who was better than the other.  Hit the jump to view the rest.

Collider has found a new trailer for the Avengers that gives us a couple of more glances at what the movie has to offer.  Unfortunately it’s still in Russian.

Believe it or not, I drew that^^

Aside from playing catch up for the post rush come January, I’ve been making use of my new graphics tablet.  This image is a direct link from my DeviantArt page FigFire.  Be sure to visit sometime as I add more art every once in a while.  I’m going to feature more art from now on.  But anywho, I’m getting off topic: Merry Christmas everyone!  Be sure to watch as many Christmas Specials as you can and be sure to tell me about them!  As for the official date of the return, I’ve got the first post schedule for January 9th labeled: ‘The 10 Best Things to Happen to Me on my Hiatus’.  Look forward to it because I look forward to returning!  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Finals week is practically over, and while I’ve survived 3/4 I’ve taken, nothing excites me more than taking a break than me returning to my beloved website.  Which only means one thing….WE’RE BACK!  If you’ve visited recently, you’ll see the bottom right ‘Author Favorites’ from November have been changed.  I’m trying to tweak a couple of more settings here and there to maximize the aesthetic pleasure that is this website.  As for TV and Movie news, I’ll be back with your regular broadcasting in about a week from now, come the week of the 19th.

And when we’re officially back, there’s going to be quite a format change.  First off, I’ll be hitting you guys harder than ever: posts 7 DAYS A WEEK.  ‘Sunday Funnies’ will be moved to ‘Saturday Morning Comics’ and Sunday’s posts will feature an entirely new segment, that I’ll reveal when I’m ready to implement it.  In other news, another addition to this website’s features will be the introduction of my webcomic series, Universidaze.  This webcomic follows the footsteps of a couple of college kids as they study, party, and experience college day to day, which is very much of what I’m doing right now.  A preview is down below.  In addition to that, the format from 2 posts a day will increase to 3, which will feature the addition of something I’ll call: ‘Banana Oatmeal’, which will generally be a link to an interested website I’ve found posted in the morning for the early risers.  We’ll still be featuring the reviews, character profiles, articles, etc. so don’t worry!

That’s all I have to say for now.  I’m coming back baby, and I’m coming back with a vengeance.  Can’t wait to see you guys in the near future.  Good luck and happy holidays!

****Update 12/22/2011

I know I said I would be returning sooner, but it turns out, I’m enjoying my vacation a little bit too much to start writing and posting again.  So like I said earlier, expect us to return in full force come January 9, 2012.  Can’t wait to see you then!

Hey guys, for the next month, Finals weeks is coming in, and I will find it impossible for me to balance both 4 core classes and movie posts everyday.  And after finals week, I will be on vacation so I won’t be back until maybe mid-January.  Until then, keep watching movies, television and stay updated with today’s top news.  Do enough of each for the both of us.  Bye now!

A Movie Poster Breakdown

Making a movie poster is highly scientific.  The guys at Oh No They Didn’t broke down the generic layout of every poster and applied it to all the posters like that.  It oddly makes sense and is quite the testament to the editor’s observation powers.

How does a lazy pizza boy and his small Indian school-teacher friend react when they’re forced to rob a bank?  Why, they simply go to the closest dollar tree, get some spray paint, some toy guns, ski masks, and go the closest bank that’s how.  Forget the hesitation, paranoia, and other basic human emotion and let’s just have them be able to outrun the cops, deal with guns pointed in their faces, and bombs strapped to their chests.  That’s where 30 Minutes or Less does wrong, while it provides decent comedy in its leads, it’s not irreverent enough to qualify as the good kind of absurd nor is it believable enough carry the heart it tries to convey.

I couldn’t really think of any Thanksgiving movies off the top of my head, but the closest thing that comes to mind is when Joey sticks his head in a Thanksgiving turkey from Friends.  Anywho, do something crazy this weekend besides stuffing your face with food.  As for me, I’ll be spending time with the family on the 25th, and then be heading back to Atlanta to watch the Jackets take on the Georgia Bulldogs.  Go Jackets! And to Hell with Georgia!
