Saying this only makes me look wet behind the ears and a greenhorn of a movie watcher: The Artist is the first silent film I’ve ever seen. Slap me on the hands, unsubscribe, believe me to lose any credibility I had, but I think admitting this is important to the impact this movie has had on me. For the longest time, I’ve put most movies made before the 1950s on the back burner because I’ve believed them to be ‘inferior’ and ‘a chore’ to watch compared to the colored, talking, and contemporary films that are being released today. And if the Artist is ANYTHING like the films made in the 30s, 40s, and 50s, then I’ve been wasting my time watching and reviewing movies like Real Steel and Happy Feet 2.
George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is an arrogant and proud silent film star. After he helps a charming Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo) get a job in acting, he’s suddenly faced with changing times as the talkies begin to change the industry. When he gets left in the dust and watches Peppy on the road to stardom, George begins to take to drink and walks on a road to self-destruction.

Pop Crunch has gathered some of the most visual movies out there. Ranging from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind to Pan’s Labyrinth, each of these are worth taking a look at.
One of the greatest speeches in film, is re-edited here to bring an even more powerful message. I unforunately have yet to actually watch this movie, but I got sent this clip and absolutely have to show it to you guys. Everything he says is still applicable today and you can’t help but tug a heart string as he crescendoes to his finale. Definitely worth the watch.

Some movies revolve around a significant date that lends itself to propelling the story or adding a layer of complexity. Whether it be holidays or regular days of the year, there’s a lot of appeal in saving a day of the year to watch a specific movie. In this case, I have five days and five corresponding movies. I personally try my hardest to watch these five movies during the year. The movies below all use the specific dates and I recommend you make it a tradition to do the same.

Musicals with animated animals have always been absolutely adorable. So when the original Happy Feet opened, there was something even more adorable when we had an unlikely animal such as the penguin singing beats ranging from the 70s to now. Throw in a likable penguin who can’t sing like the rest of the community but would rather dance and you don’t even stand a chance. Maybe this is why it beat out Pixar’s Cars. So how does the sequel stand up?
Mumble (Elijah Wood) is back with some kids of his own with his loved one Gloria (now played by P!nk due to the late Brittany Snow). This time the community has embraced dancing and tries to teach it to its younger generation. Throw in some elephant seals, some semi-likable Krill, a Puffin, a toned down Robin Williams, and another global issue and you get a seemingly rushed and scrapped together film they call Happy Feet 2. Despite all these issues, it still inspires some of the magic it once had through its spine tingling musical numbers and fantastic visuals.
Katy Perry hosted SNL last weekend, oops, I mean Zooey Deshanel hosted SNL last weekend. And it was actually quite an enjoyment. They played a lot on her strengths and the addition of Jean Dujardin and Nicholas Cage provided very strong laughs. Hader’s Eastwood was an absolute delight and Taran Killam continues to hold a lot of comedic luggage and shows to be a promising member. Check out much of the recap I agree with at the link.
I absolutely love and adore Lisbeth Salander from the Millienium Trilogy, so it’s no surprise I would try to pay homage to her by sketching. In all honesty, this was one of my most ambitious projects [I’m an amateur, please remember I’m not going to art school so I have no official training, haters] and I like to think I’m slowly progressing to become a decent sketch artist. Can this adorable, beautiful, hipster pull off comedy? Sure she’s got the indie-weirdo down, but what about sketch comedy. I personally don’t think so. She should stick to what her typecast scripted shtick, but the SNL writers are gonna go in one of 2 directions. Make the entire show fit her personality [which they should do every show, but not ever host is able to keep up with that], or stick her in copy and paste characters that make the actual castmates do their redundant and tired out sketches [black musicians by Kenan Thompson get very old, very fast]. I don’t think Deschanel’s ballsy enough to carry the weight. But like with last week, I was fairly surprised at Channing Tatum’s effort, which makes me actually reconsider him as a meat head. Too early to call, but based on the promo….well. Gyah…
With numerous people constantly smacking me on the hands for not watching one of the greatest TV shows ever, I finally got into watching F/X’s Archer. Once again, I’m kicking myself in the ass for not finding this comedic gem sooner. I have said this about many shows, but I’ll gladly stand behind saying Archer is one of the best things on television. The quick witted, often self-referring jokes, the stellar cast, and one of the most lovable douche bags on TV, Archer has every element to be a casual comedy to keep up with. It doesn’t matter if you’re alone in a room or in circled by friends, Archer will surely bring you the laughs every Thursday night.
Sterling Archer (brilliantly voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) is feared by all governments for being the most dangerous field agent out there. He’s got all the best qualities of James Bond: deadly with a pistol, a taste for fancy drinks, and a tendency to flirt with all sorts of women. The difference? He’s completely aware of how awesome he is and selfishly rubs it in everyone’s face. Working for the government agency ISIS, with his alcoholic mother (Jessica Walter) at the helm, Archer engages in different missions each episode. With the help (or without in most cases) of his co-workers, he always manages to finish the mission. Or at least, comes out of it alive.

Not completely entertainment, tv, or movie related. That’s okay, this is still a very interesting video. I’d imagine 50 more viral videos just sprang up in the nine minutes it takes to finish that video, but regardless, this is still an excellent way to waste 10 minutes of your life.
The opening sequences to television shows provide the thematic sequences that set the underlying tone to the rest of the show. The strength of these sequences often creates the memorable calling card of the show. Here I’ve got compiled 5 of my favorite openings to television shows.
The films listed here weren’t received well at the domestic box office. They also weren’t rated very well by critics. Both of these aspects usually make movies flops. But with a low production budget and large world box office, these movies actually aren’t considered flops.
Sure there were quite a few movie spots in the Superbowl, but none as awesome as the Avengers. And by awesome, I meant explodey. My gosh they’re really selling the whole action movie. I sure hope this thing isn’t a loud bust, or else I and tons of others will be really upset. Regardless, the classic Tony Stark humor is always appreciated and once again we ended on the Hulk screaming. Literally, almost every Avengers teaser ends with the Hulk screaming.
