American Horror Story premiered last year on FX and told the tale of family moving into a haunted house. This haunted house has the ghosts of the people killed within its walls for the past 80+ years. Throughout the times, there are ghosts from all time periods each with their reasons to hang around. I’ve compiled below a list of my favorites in no particular order. Potential spoilers below.

Oh sweet Jesus, I think my childhood just got raped in the face. This video depicts a very disturbing take on Nickolodeon’s Rugrats. Funny or Die originally created the video and all credit goes to them. One of the most adorable on screen pairs, Joseph Gorden Levitt and Zooey Deschanel have once again paired up to perform an adorable duet. They obviously have a ton of chemistry together and I love one of the Youtube comments, ‘Joe is totally friendzoned’. Enjoy.

I’ve heavily spent that last 2 weeks or so catching up on both seasons of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. And I will tell you now, that I’m very hooked. This series is compelling, graphic, unforgiving, and just oh-so good. It’s an absolute gold mine for US history buffs and those who love the gangster drama. Martin Scorsese produces and even directed the very first episode and the amount of detail in representing the best and the worst of the 1920s. I highly recommend if you aren’t watching, that you find yourself some copies and sit through the literal 24 hour [2 seasons, 12 episodes each, one hour long] roller coaster ride that Nucky Thompson and friends take you on.
Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson (Steve Buscemi)is a crooked county treasure in the beautiful town of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Just as the Volstead Act [Prohibition] is passed, he and his council including mayors, governors, sheriffs, and other political figures raise a glass of the finest whiskies. Just like the tagline said: “When alcohol was outlawed, outlaws became kings”. Thompson technically owns Atlantic City as he controls the influx of Alcohol and hands out money like candy. In the eyes of the public, he’s a dedicated man of service, and in the criminal underworld, he’s one of the most feared men on the Eastern coast. When he gets tangled with the law, rival factions, lovers and betrayers, Thompson must use his wit and resources to keep control of the town he owns. By any means necessary.

Naturally, one could try and compile all the best lines on TV in the year 2011. Huffington post recently tried to do so and in all honesty, I’m quite disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the feat is rather extraordinary because theoretically one would have to go back through all of TV and find the best lines. Regardless this list is all right, but I honestly believe there is one that is better out there.

Deadline claims a deal is being made that Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute character might get a spin off for the 2013 Midseason. I think this is an awful idea, mainly because Schrute is a one note character that will get old incredibly fast, if he hasn’t already in 8 seasons of the Office. The only thing I can think of saving this idea is a very strong supporting cast that carries the show. But even then, it’s difficult to say that this is a good idea. Go and read the full scoop below.

Well, the nomination list for movies biggest night is here. And I’m pleasantly surprised and angrily pissed off at the same time. Of course. The Academy will never be able to quench everyone’s thirst, and in all honesty, so far there isn’t as clear a winner as it was so obvious last year with the King’s Speech. Anyways, I’ve dedicated today’s Quips to the nomination list with a little color commentary. Enjoy

Fox’s Alcatraz aired last week and I’m still trying to feel it out. Three episodes have passed since it’s premier and I’ll admit I’m fairly hooked. Is this another cheesy ambitious detective paired with an unlikely partner cliche? It sure is. Is there an overbearing agency that is withholding information from our likable heroes? You’re damn right. But what Alcatraz has that transcends other cliche shows lies in its very interesting premise. In addition to that is that it’s fairly graphic and unforgiving. Usually shows won’t cross taboos of showing people, particularly young women, getting shot, and even include a surprising amount of gore to accompany it. A shocking addition on account we’re on a big named publically accessible network like Fox. Maybe it was to master producer and creater JJ Abrams idea to do this. Maybe this was a stint that we’ll only see in the first few episodes, but regardless Fox has done its job where it has hooked me in to follow it for a couple more weeks. But like Terra Nova, if this series fizzles, I’ll soon drop it like a hot tamale in favor for greener pastors. Read on below for my thoughts on the first couple of episodes.

One of my all time favorite series was Scrubs. The series has been cancelled for a couple of years now. But in its time, it was definitely one of the funniest shows on air. It fortunately gave us one of the biggest bromances to ever air on television: John Dorian and Chris Turk. Of course, real life actors Zach Braff and Donald Faison share quite the bromance themselves. This holiday they released this awesome music video which I like to think of as Guy Love part 2. That aside, I wonder what they’re up to these days. Faison was in that awful movie Skyline, and I haven’t seen Braff anywhere for a while.

The people’s choice awards were a couple of weeks ago, and naturally there were a couple of amusing clips inbetween the award show. One of the best includes this cute video about the cast of Parks and Recreation where each cast member goes over their hidden talents. Definitely worth a watch.

The newest show I’ve recently picked up on is ABC’s Happy Endings. I’ve been able to catch up since Season 1 and am now currently following it’s season two continuation that started two weeks ago. And I admit that I’ve loved every moment of it. The show and its characters are well developed, the writing is fairly solid, and it’s legitimately funny without becoming too cheesy. And out of the other romantic sitcoms that have tried to find a place in America’s heart [see examples like Perfect Couples], this one seems to be the one standing after all the rubble has settled. And while the shows is clever and its characters are growing to become more and more likable with each episode, it had a rough start and can even be slapped on the hand for treading far too close to the relationship sitcom champion that coincidentally is about 6 very different ‘Friends’. Read below about how I’ve reacted to Happy Endings at first and how I’ve seen in grow.

It’s no surprise that a good amount comes from NBC Thursday Comedy, but when you check out the list yourself, you might find it surprising what hits the top 3. And not a single Modern Family/Big Band Theory/Two and a Half Men mention in sight >:D.

Darren Aronofsky, most known for things like Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream, is known for his trance inducing, colorful and visual filmography. So if he makes projects as large as Requiem for a Dream to be that memorable, can you imagine if he made a real drug commercial? Well he did just that. I’ve compiled some of Aronofsky’s drug commercials that are about as scarring as that one Jennifer Connelly scene in Requiem for a Dream. Be prepared if you view them below.

Television is returning after a long holiday hiatus. And it’s time to get a plethora of new shows as well as the return of some beloved ones. And just like the Fall Check Up and Preview I did last fall, I’m here to share with you guys what I’ll be tuning into this season. Personally, it feels as though Fall TV is better than Mid-season. With greats like Dexter, It’s Always Sunny, and a couple of others having only a 12 episode run, I’ve always wondered what filled those time slots in the Spring. After doing a little research, I’ve seen that there are gems that I haven’t quite uncovered yet such as: Justified, Shameless, and 30 Rock. So I’m going to be dedicating my time now to play catch up. And that’s not even counting all the new series coming out. As usual, it’s a gamble to try to get into new shows, mainly because you don’t know if it will be a waste of time or not, but I’ve got some faith in some in the appeal of some of these new shows. I’ll update you later in the season to tell you how it’s going.

Say what you will about the show, I avidly watch new SNL episodes every week simply because the sheer premise of the show and dedication of the cast astounds me. Week after week they have to come up with new material and cater to the talents of the hosts. So this Saturday night, we have the very talented Daniel Radcliffe hosting, likely to promote his new movie The Woman In Black. One of my favorite websites, Collider, has created an Oscars of their own and held some of the awarded some very accurate nominations. Hit the link below to view them all. I, and I’m sure I’m not alone, have a couple of disagreements, the biggest as labeling Andy Serkis’s character Caeser from Rise of the Planet of the Apes as a ‘supporting’ character. But simultaneously my credit could be considered a moot point because I honestly haven’t seen EVERY movie on that list. Regardless, I high suggest you check it out.

2011 had a lot of good television. One thing that makes the television good is the likable/badass/hilarious characters that we’ve come to love, hate, or even love to hate. Whether it be new or old, we had some of the most powerful performances this year and it’s quite difficult to rank them all. And with each show having at least 5 main characters, choosing 10 characters from the best shows on air was rather difficult. What made this even harder was that I had to balance the 2010-2011 midseason line ups with 2011 fall tv line ups, but ultimately everything eventually fell into place as I realized clearly who was better than the other.
