EA and Ubisoft

Big Bombs: Everything from Ubisoft
Big Flops: EA
As I stated above, EA flopped this year while Ubisoft completely destroyed the competition. Bringing in big geek hits like Toby ‘Tobuscus’ Turner and Aisha Taylor, Ubisoft was bound to be the biggest hit during this year’s E3. They had a great showing that included games like Shootmania, Farcry 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed III and Watch_Dogs, the latter of which I am drooling over in the hopes that I get to play it SOON. Not only did Ubisoft showcase some amazing games, they demolished the competition by extending a hand to the pro-gaming community and competitive gaming in general. By allowing us to see just what happens when two pro-level teams go head to head, Ubisoft may have opened the door to pro-gaming becoming an actual sport, something akin to Starcraft in Korea. Moving along, however, I refuse to comment on EA further as they shamed themselves with their display. I would instead like to move on to the first impressions of Ubisoft’s lineup.
Farcry 3 First Impression
Overall it looked good, but was diminished as soon as we hit the 4 person co-operative mode they made. It was hard to hear anything that was going on with all the shouting and random explosions going off. Don’t get me wrong, the game still looked amazing, it was just cluttered with the amount of things going on in the map at the same time. Additionally, the opening sequence made the game seem like it was just tailored to pubescent teenagers…but I digress. FarCry 3 looks like a solid title that a lot of people will be clamoring for in the foreseeable future.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
What can I say to this besides “Welcome back, Mr. Fisher”. In this long-awaited sequel to one of the best Tom Clancy games around, we once more team up with special agent Sam Fisher in an attempt to take out a world-wide terrorist organization known as Blacklist. The first couple of minutes of gameplay have us targeting missiles, shooting down terrorists in an awesome bullet time esque sequence, and having a terrorist off himself on the barrel of our gun. Just an average day in the life of Sam Fisher. This game looks to be an amazing step up from its predecessors, and I look forward to seeing more.
Assassin’s Creed III First Impression
Despite not having played any of the previous AC games to an in-depth extent, I found that this game seemed a lot like the others with the spin of being in a different part of the world at a different point in time. I can’t help but feel like it was unnecessary, but the game does look polished and really fine, so we’ll just have to see as we go. I know a lot of people can’t wait for it to release, so I suppose there is something keeping them coming back for more, whatever it is just didn’t ever interest me.
Watch_Dogs First Impression
Finally we get to the cream of the crop. This game completely blew me away upon being spoiled. Just the right mix of techie meets the Matrix meets Person of Interest to keep things interesting. I was impressed with their final reveal, especially after being enticed by their opening for the game. Watch_Dogs is surely a game to keep tabs on, and something I will be pre-ordering as soon as they’ll let me.
That’s it for my wrap-up of E3 2012, and I hope you enjoyed reading everything. Let me know what you thought in the comments and be sure to check out our other articles for more interesting things both gaming related and not! See you guys next year for another excited E3.
