Big Bombs: ZombiU, Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, WiiU Reveal
Big Flops: No Big Blockbusters
Where to begin on Nintendo? I was thoroughly disappointed with their showing this year, as even with the WiiU reveal, nothing really interesting caught my fancy. Pikmin 3 was about as close as they got to a hitched breath from me this year, and I’m questioning why. With a new console in the works and ready to be ported as soon as next year, Nintendo should have stolen the show with live demos of amazing AAA games, but instead we get a lot of really spaced out demos of games like WiiU Sports and other such nonsense. I know Nintendo can be the company we want it to be, so why aren’t they going at their full potential? I’m not quite sure I can sum up the conference in a very positive light, but at least they made things interesting to some degree.
ZombiU First Impression
It looked rather interesting with the way the scenarios are created. After watching the demo I felt that the game was made for sheer shock value, as when zombies just randomly come at you from directions you’re looking in. The graphics could have been so much more and made the game immensely terrifying, but instead we get lackluster cartoon-like figures that just moan at you. Overall I felt like this was an odd step for a family game company to make, but with their demographic going away for the more ‘hardcore’ games, this may have been a step they needed to take.
Nintendo Land First Impression
My inner child squealed with glee when they announced this. Despite much criticism about this being another bland mini-game collection, I thoroughly want to see this game succeed. If I had the money to shell out for a WiiU I would just to get this game. It may just be the bright colors and familiar insignias that surround the park, but my childhood resonates on a deep level with this game, and I’m hoping they don’t disappoint.
Pikmin 3 First Impression
Overall this is the same Pikmin we all know and love, with added Rock Pikmin and what appear to be Flying Pikmin from the end of the trailer. I think this will be just as successful as its predecessors, with an apparent 4-player co-op mode to spice things up. This is the one game I looked forward to the most when they spoiled it. Additionally, that pikmin plush made me want one, but that’s a completely different topic. Nintendo outdid themselves with the original game and its sequel, so let’s hope that the 3rd installment lives up to the hype.
