I can’t believe how fast these past 8 weeks have gone and how far we’ve advanced in Game of Thrones. The big battle is up next, and most of the pieces are lining up in their final positions. It’s interesting how the producers have taken things so far as they’re including tidbits of the third book/season in the episodes so far. I wouldn’t say a lot happened this episode except that some characters are walking to new places seeing as the finale is right around the corner. This marks the first time in a while where we’ve seen most if not all of the major storylines, which might explain why so little was actually done. But by far my favorite part included the beautiful Talisa, but we’ll get into all of that below. Obvious spoilers.
Theon’s Streak of Bad Luck Continues
Theon’s a pretty insecure dude. He tries to do good, but he gets caught up in his own idiocy so much, that he’s doing more harm than good. Example 1) Take Winterfell to impress father. Backlash 1) Garners no reinforcements from his sister because of lack of planning. Example 2) Stay in Winterfell to show courage and valor. Backlash 2) Will likely die. The man is caught in a serious battle with himself and his losing grip of Winterfell will make him lose much more than the respect of his father.
Dany Does Nothing. Again.
Ugh. Wait Patrick. Wait till season 3…
Tyrion Prepares for 2 Wars: One with Stannis, the other with Cersei
Some brilliant Bronn/Tyrion banter lead to important intel on the state of the city: they’re under equipped, ill-trained, and out numbered. Tyrion understands the logics of war, Bronn understands the mechanisms of it. Joffrey believes he will ride out into battle to meet Stannis face to face, but his mother thinks differently. Tyrion says that it will help morale, but Cersei believes it will be a ploy to take the throne on Tyrion’s part. As a result, she threatens him by having his favorite whore. When we’re revealed who the whore is, it’s none other than that red headed whore who seemingly had no place in this show, and not Shae. Tyrion marks his sister for retalliation in a very emotionally charged fashion [Dinklage for best lead in a series/drama]. Tyrion then confesses his weakness and love for Shae later on, claiming he would kill for her. Interesting as Tyrion had fallen in love with one before..
Some Empathy from the Cold Hearted Stannis
Right before the battle, Stannis names Davos Seaworthy, a commoner turned knight, to be Hand of the King when Stannis claims the throne. Stannis makes some good points here, saying he did his duty for his brother and expected gratitude. When he was instead looked over, he accepted his orders and moved on, despite being wronged. I never had much sympathy for Stannis, but this particular scene makes me think it shows his character as how morally iron he is.
How Little Jon Snow Knows, TALISA, Jaqen and the Little Princes on the next page!
Hahahahha…. no, no crannogmen here. And I did miss me my weasel soup. As I’ve told you before, I’m no fan of Ygritte, but I think a big bit will be cut there. And all the plot concerning Dany is tiresome… she should’ve done something by now… and I’m guessing Talisa will be Jeyne here; she’s highborn, and she could very well be his queen. And the part about her baby brother actually made me cry a bit. I can’t wait for the battle… and you’re right!! Team Peter Dinklage!!!!!!!
As for the book, I’m almost in the middle of book 3 now. And I’m thrilled because I discovered a fifth book and there will be seven!!! I’m sure this must be old news for you, but I’m all giddy because of it!
Have you heard if they are casting Meera and Jojen for Season 3? No weasel soup? My full thoughts on this episode are on my Game of Thrones blog.
