There’s nothing like watching a movie when the cast seemingly spontaneously breaks out into song and dance. This is especially welcome when you’re not watching a musical and weren’t expected that to happen in the first place. Here, I have compiled a video list of awesome moments where the cast broke into song and beat when we likely were least expecting it. Hit the jump for the musical bits, and don’t forget to slap me on the hands for missing one you love.
Austin Power in Goldmember – Dr. Evil Rap
Say what you will about Mike Myers, but if there is anything worth-while in his ‘career’ it’s the Austin Power series that brought me delight when I was an adolescent. Most memorable, was when Dr. Evil and a gang of thugs bust out into a cleverly written albeit short rap about his imprisonment. The clip itself is a parody of general rap videos containing bee-otches, cars, and censored cuss words. A true enjoyment. It was a tough choice between this one and ‘Just the Two Of Us’
The Hangover – Stu’s Song
I’m always singing this song when I’m just sitting around somewhere. You should listen to the soundtrack version where even more instrumentals are added to give a sense of grandeur and finesse. Ed Helms is a talented musician as seen here and on several episodes of The Office. Great stuff. [I’ve heard there is a Stu’s song in the Hangover 2, but in all honesty, I haven’t even seen that movie yet…]
Slumdog Millionaire – Jai Ho
Such an incredibly shot and choreographed sequence that exhibits Indian culture so well. Probably one of the most memorable credit scenes I’ve seen…Which reminds me to make a post about memorable credit scenes…Anyways, such a catchy song.
O Brother, Where Art Thou – I Am Man of Constant Sorrow
From what I hear, George Clooney himself had vocal lessons because he wanted to actually sing this song, but unfortunately wasn’t able to get good enough at it. But this is such a good bluegrass song. Almost makes me want to get into the entire genre itself.
Anchorman – Afternoon Delight
I had to choose a Will Ferrall song because he sings in quite a few. It was a tough choice between this one and his opera at the end of Step Brothers.
The Fifth Element – Diva Opera
Absolutely beautiful.
Step Brothers – Sweet Child O’ Mine
I love Adam Scott. Party Down. Parks and Recreation. FunnyorDie. Anything he does is absolutely hilarious. This moment in Step Brothers is absolutely awesome.
Any Todd Phillips Movie – The Dan Band
If you’ve seen any Todd Phillips movie [Old School, The Hangover, Starsky and Hutch] you’ve seen this band. They’re known for being extremely perverted and having quite a potty mouth. Which makes it THAT much more enjoyable when they sing at an important function like a wedding.
Holla if I missed one.
Afternoon Delight in Arrested Development… the bomb.wordpress.com
Good post. I daresay Figerrific.
