Loki is a Devastating but Vulnerable Supervillain
Loki is the villain from Thor. A demi-god like Thor himself, he possess immense power. The god of mischief uses his classic arsenal of trickery and deception. But he’s given even more power in the form of the Tesseract staff. In truth, he’s actually given as much screen time as the Avengers. His conversations with the higher alien powers and conversation with the Avengers individually are all intriguing and compelling primarily due to actor Tom Hiddlesten’s chilling delivery. Based on a lot of the interaction, Loki himself is a conflicted villain, not entirely sure of what he wants, balancing madness and reason. He’s fairly vulnerable at times and it’s clear he’s simply trying to find his place in the universe.
Cliche Done In All the Right Ways
Put this movie in a nutshell and it’s fairly predictable and cliche in a lot of ways. A group of diverse people get together, their philosophies disagree, a life changing moment turns them together, they beat the bad guy. I’m sorry if I just spoiled the movie for you, but let’s be honest, you probably already knew that was going to happen. What makes this movie so good is that along the way all the components I mentioned before carry this movie above class cliche to be just so damn good.
The Most Epic Superhero Fight that I’ve Ever Seen
The last 30 minutes of the movie is probably the best choreographed and executed fight scene in any superhero movie I’ve ever seen. The Dark Knight is a great superhero movie but lacked a compelling final fight scene. Spider Man’s fight with Doc Oc on the train was awesome, but lacked a compelling reason and personality. The main fight in the Avengers had everything you’d want in a fight scene and more. The entire scene was well choreographed, transitioning from each of the main characters smoothly and stylishly. Nothing gave me goosebumps more than when the camera transitioned to several scenes where two Avengers were fighting side by side taking out a number of baddies. The CGI was absolutely amazing and what they did to the city was absolutely astonishing. The fight also had a lot of personality. By personality, a lot of the character was embedded in the fighting style. Whether it was Iron Man’s flashy fighting style or the Hulk’s brute attack, each character’s fighting style was a wonderful testament to their skill set and personality type.
We’re Not Even Done Yet
If you haven’t already heard, the Avengers 2 is already announced and it’s clear that it’s being set up based on the post credit reel. So we’ll be able to see the team go at it again. A treat I’m very looking forward to.
